Monte is right; I think I posted about it.

KTC and Toptul are both outsourcing, and I'm not sure who's the OEM for this ratcheting screwdriver. I've played with it, but wasn't overly impressed. Just my opinion though. I much prefer the ratcheting screwdriver that JK47 has in his toolbox drawer--the Megapro. JK, what's your opinion?

that´s right !
found the info still stored in my brain :)

@superautobacs

I got the idea for the MegaPro from your ratcheting screwdriver post

I got it from "the bay" for $23 shipped, and it's worth every penny and more. I wanted the model with 1 inch magnetized bits, but this model was just too good of a deal to pass up, $35 vs $23. I'm very impressed with the ratcheting action and the design of the bit holder. When the action is locked in the middle position, the bit holder spins freely in your palm, allowing fine control. Plus I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC and like to support the local Canadian companies, Piquic screwdrivers too

As for the KTC/Toptul/Lancer ratcheting screwdriver, you can add Husky to that list as well. I saw the Husky version at a Home Depot in Canada a couple weeks back. I was not impressed with the ratchet mechanism, a little too clunky in my opinion, with a side order of slop.

@Monte

Sorry if i made a duplicate post about those screwdrivers. The "Tools from the old world" topic is to big and my memory is slowly getting away from me :). Those people from Lancer make half of the worlds screwdrivers i think.

@ R25GTS:

So you had news from them?
Do you know if they accept to directly ship to europe with the US website prices
I would really like make a Nepros tool purchase next month...

@ Superautobacs:

Thanks for answering about your delivery address.
I thought that I had seen earlier in this thread that they automatically send the orders to the credit card holder's address, is it an absolute rule?

The sister of one of my brother's friend :))), is in the US for 3 years, I would like to keep this solution for a worst case scenario (I'd be embarassed, I barely know her) but if I can't I'll have my tools sent there and then ask her to send them to Belgium... :(. But anyway for this, Nepros have to accept belgian credit cards/US delivery adress, she doesn't have one issued by a US bank.

These tools are so nice, it blocked my "tool collection improvement program" as now I would like my new tools to be Nepros, you guys really ****! :D

Your friends sister could always get a pre-paid credit card from some place like Wal-Mart or Target if Nepros.net wont accept your Belgian CC. They also accept bank wire transfers...

The Nepros tools on the Dutch site come with some very nice tool control foam with their modules.

BAM! I totally forgot myself, that you had already answered who the OEM is. Time to read the "TFTOW" thread ..... all the way from Page 1 :lol_hitti

I don't think you'd have any problems sending them to an American address. I, for one, had no problems sending it to either address.

Thanks for your help guys!

It looks like at least they'll let me pay and send it to the US, I just have to find a way to have these tools cross the atlantic, maybe I'll use a mail forwarding company, as I said I don't want to annoy that girl if I can find another way...

Yes I like them too, but I hope that the prices :)shocking:) reminded you that you live in the best country for tool shopping

Btw they look very similar to Facom's foam modules:

Nepros's modules wouldn't look much different in the same drawer of a roll cab:

Does anyone have the offset box wrenches? The pics on the nepros.net website are totally useless at the KTC Japanese site is down so I can't download the catalog. I need a set of deep offset box wrenches and I'm wondering if that should be my first Nepros tools

I have the Nepros in metric and the KTC in SAE, they are both very nice. They follow a 45x6 degree pattern, not as deep as Stahlwille, Hazet, Facom, or other 75 degree extra deep offset wrenches. It all depends on how deep you need the offset to be.

Like JK47 says, go with the European brands if you seek for the deepest offset. The 75* are popular in Europe, but not very much in Japan.

I have finally received an answer from Eri Inoue for my first e-mail. They will send me the paper catalogs by UPS :bounce:. I hope i will get another good answer regarding the price and shipping costs to Europe.

What do you think contributes to the difference in preference / popularity?

Does it have to do to the cars that each produces in the country / region?

In other words, if you are working primarily German / European vehicles you'll want the 75* to get the job done but you won't need the 75* on the Japanese car - due to the way they design them.

I have to confess to you guys, i received my nepros adjustable wrench and 3/8 drive T handle, they are so beautiful i do not want to use them. I even left them in there factory packaging.
Is this the nicest chrome you have ever seen on a tool or what ?

@bad_religion_au: I took some other pics to post of the spanners then I realized they had the same type of reflection going on and hence were not fit for show. Nepros is some shiney stuff! :)

I can see at least two negatives with this brand...

a) you might be blinded by its reflection if working outdoors in the sun ;)

b) they sure are flashy.... it'll catch everyone's eye at work or in the neighborhood.

My recommendation is to use them only in places away from the sun, like where a troll would hide, like your home. Of course, if you are using them at work you might want to wrap electrical tape around them to hide the 'bling' factor from unscrupulous employees.

Finally got around to taking some shots of the new jewels. Is that 3/8" stubby cute, or what??

I couldn't resist the leather handle on the standard ratchet--blingity-bling. The finish on these tools must been seen and felt to be appreciated.

I must say, even though I knew what I was getting, I was just slightly disappointed with the fact that the ratchets are not high tooth count mechanisms. "Tink-tink-tink-tink" instead of "buzzzt-buzzzt" is vaguely reminiscent of my old Craftsman nails. They work wonderfully, don't get me wrong, just :dunno:

Picky, picky.....

How much was the leather-wrapped ratchet?

Did you have to buy the mug and the sticker, or were those freebies?

The leather ratchet was $85, over double what the plain one is, so it was pure luxury/lust on my part.

Stickers are included with sets (the 3/8" extensions in this case), but are listed for sale individually in the paper catalog KTC sent along with the goodies. Stock number is NYG-15A for the one I have pictured. They've got T-shirts, caps, jackets, etc., but no mugs.

The mug. I yanked the logo off the Internet and made up a design through the Zazzle website: http://www.zazzle.com/

Hopefully I won't get into copyright trouble because it's for my private use only. Hey, it's free advertising for KTC!

Since the leather pretty much confines it to being an art piece, rather than a working tool, now that you have it in your hand, do you think it was worth the $85?

If anyone has both a 3/8" and 1/2" "full polish" ratchet (aka not the leather wrapped one or whatnot), could you please post a pic of them lined up together? I'm trying to find out if the handle on the 1/2" ratchets is any thicker (bigger diameter) than on the 3/8" ratchets.

Thanks.

Ha! I'm not a pro wrencher, so it's not going to see extended daily use. It feels very robust in the hand, so I'll enjoy and use it as frequently as I do my older ratchets.

It should get a nice patina as the years roll on, and character marks are not a negative as far as I'm concerned. You always remember the major prangs--sometimes with humor, sometimes with disgust.

For me, I guess the extra $40-50 will fade into the mist as time goes by. The pain of purchase soon dissipates. Is a nicer car, a fancier guitar, or more expensive beer "worth it?" I dunno......

These tools look great. I think I've just convinced myself to do a little shopping. What's the story on the customs/duty fees to the US? Have you guys been getting billed later on after the tools arrived from UPS or FedEx?

Out of five or six orders I've made, I got dinged once for duty. It wasn't an order from Nepros.net, it was from KTC, I think when you order from Nepros.net they help you work around the duty issues.

I've paid duty fees on almost every order. Sometimes it is COD and sometimes I get a bill a week or two later. I believe UPS charges a flat $6.50 processing fee on the order and the duty varies depending on what you bought. Typically my duty fees have been about 3% of the cost.

Has anyone found a good e-mail address to contact them?

I stumbled these boards a few weeks ago, and ended up placing my first order with nepros last week as a result.

Should be in next week, but... I had wanted to e-mail to add a few things (the leather wrapped ratchet being one of them). Every e-mail I sent to Ms. Inoue bounced back though.

I really want to order some more stuff if I could get in good contact with them. Thanks!
