I Had some fun with the Nepros colored rubber rings matching Wera 10, 17, and 19mm. Once you get used to it, the colored coded rings on Wera stuff is definitely useful.

I Hope they make green rings in the future so I can add it to the 13mm. I cannot see them releasing pink for 8mm or purple for 14mm.

That looks like a great job.

I thought about, ultimately, doing something similar so as to distinguish SAE from Metric.

I don’t know if I was missing something though, but when I looked at the Nepros website, I found it impossible to determine what size ring goes on what size socket!

You should try emailing them regarding the rubber rings. Nepros is all pretty low production stuff and their customer service reps aren't just in some random outsourced call center. Who knows - maybe they'll pass on the feedback regarding the colors you want.

Not being fluent in Japanese, I'm having more than a slight problem with that site. How do you navigate it. I can't read anything on it.
Use the translator in your browser. I think they all have one. Mobile and desktop. Not always perfect translation, but close enough.

I'm supposed to be paying off my credit cards.
You can relax about blowing up your credit cards because wire bank transfer is the only method of payment for IP Gold presale. I just paid $40 in fees to send the wire in USD. Kinda lame if you ask me. I know they want to avoid the CC fees but not sure why they would prefer USD.

compare with transferwise (actually just 'wise' now) next time. might be cheaper.
and for big transfers, i do a domestic transfer from my bank to transferwise first and then use transferwise to move it internationally.

Yeah. I've been looking through their catalog and was extremely tempted by the tool chest sets but ultimately I think I'm going to sit this release out. The gold is definitely special but the blue and black IP are where my heart is at because they'd be the center pieces of my toolbox and I could use them. The gold is just visually too much in my opinion and would be better display pieces, which I'm not really in the market for right now.

did any of you Nepros junkies see the recent Koon Trucking video on You Tube about Nepros compact head 3/8 drive ratchets and a US Nepros vendor on Amazon? They make snap on much more affordable

These compact rachets from Nepros are new. Head and grip area are smaller/slimmer, basically a 3/8 in a 1/4 body.

That AMZN U.S. seller is out of his/her mind with pricing. Better off ordering directly from Nepros U.S.

yes, but compact head is not new. for example, i know i was looking at NBRC390 last year. maybe there are just more of them now?

it's hard for me to tell, but the 1/4" long (NBR290L) might be new. if so, then NBRC390L (NBR290L + 3/8" compact parts kit) is also new.

Correct, on both counts.

I'm curious and hope you don't mind my asking, but are you buying from Factory Gear or some other vendor. Whenever I click on the Nepros Gold Ion announcement at Factory Gear, I get an error. I thought perhaps it was because it was too soon as the announcement said they would take reservations starting September first. I did see the individual gold ratchets on another site, but not the set as shown in the announcement. Any information about that? (Thanks in advance.)

BTW I translated this from an email, ( Google translation) about the ion plating and it says that:
"Comparing with Hv (Vickers) hardness, which is one of the measures to measure hardness,
Whereas general chrome plating is 700, products that have undergone iP treatment
1,500-2,000 will more than double.
iP Gold has iP treatment on top of normal chrome plating.
The surface treatment has a 4-layer structure."

So I conclude that the ion plating would be twice or more resistant to scratching and wear than regular chrome plating.
Gold is a soft metal so the hard treatment is probably a gold color and not actual gold. Maybe titanium nitride?
It might be OK to actually use them?

(Edited to add hardness quote and my opinion about gold.)

Seems the nepros.net pricing has increased dramatically in the last year or so. I have several Nepros ratchets and the new prices are approaching Snap On pricing. One is a stubby 3/8 compact flex I got a couple of years ago so they're not "brand new".

I actually regret buying the 3/8 compact (and Snap On compacts) after getting one of these and the 3/8 to 1/2 counterpart:

The other generics are high profile but Ares makes ones that are shorter than the others except the KTC above.

We're talking about the compact ratchets in the video (at least I thought we were :wtf:). They're new.

Pricing for lots of stuff has increased in the past year. Nepros.net is still much less expensive than what that AMZN seller is showing.

I purchased directly though Nepros Japan. An email was sent by Nepros market manger to those who have purchased directly before with the .pdf Pizza posted above. We were asked to reply with order and await payment instructions. I was told I was the first person in the world to get Gold IP order confirmed.

I would try: [email protected] to be directed to the right person.

What I appreciate about ip gold is its high visibility compared to other chrome ratchets in my collection. I am big on color coded identification to spend less time searching for the right tool. Take a look at my cart, if I want long nose I look for the Hazet, if I want duckbill I search for Tsunoda. Same with screwdrivers, Wera yellow is flathead, Wera green is Hex, Gedore are torx…

I purchased the NTX2X21GL set and plan on intermingling the tools in my daily tool cart.

I've watched a couple of his videos in the past and I find there's not much value in watching them, so I'm not going to bother watching it.
I see nothing new from Nepros in the past 12 months, other than them adding T8 and T30 1/4 drive sizes into their bit sockets lineup, along with various 1/4 drive 6/12pt sockets in SAE sizing.
So, he's just wanting views .... typical youtube click-bait

Yes, more resistent to scratching is correct. I find the standard Nepros double-nickel chrome plating to be quite wear resistant, compared to many other brands I've handled, so having the ion-plating on top will make it that much more wear resistant.
Of course it's actually OK to use them!! They are tools to be used! ;)

So those compact ratchets he talks about aren't new in the last 12 months? Nepros has a "new" icon next to both on their website. *confused*

I'm not much of a fan of his YouTube "reviews" either.

Probably just means "new" for the Nepros.net site. It can take quite a bit of time before they add newly released items in Japan onto their site.

that's what i was thinking, too. i couldn't tell if they were actually new or not since they don't update jack, and the "new" labels could have been there for a year for all i know.

you might've noticed that the factory gear pre-order stuff is taken down now.

again, for posterity, these were the prices for the ratchets:

1/4": NBR290GL: 9900 jpy [89.95 usd] (stated "retail" price: 11000 jpy [99.94 usd])
3/8": NBR390GL: 12900 jpy [117.20 usd] (stated "retail" price: 14300 jpy [129.92 usd])

i think this is basically the same as the iP blue (NBR290JB, NBR390JB) pricing when those came out.

I purchased the NTX2X21GL set and plan on intermingling the tools in my daily tool cart.

congrats! i hope you take pics for us :)

i asked Harima-san at KTC about just buying individual ratchets, and he said they weren't selling those directly.

Since this Artisan gold is the special edition of tools, we are thinking to sell tool set only.

however, apparently they have (or are forming relationships with) "a few" US distributors. he referred me to one of them:

current pre-order pricing there is:

1/4": NBR290GL: $108.10
3/8": NBR390GL: $164.15

no tax, free shipping. they expect to get them in mid/late October.
edit: no tax out of state (CA i think), free shipping over $100

if you're only ordering one or two ratchets, i think this is a pretty reasonable deal.
i ordered 5 ratchets. a 1/4" and a 3/8" for myself, and the rest are gifts for friends and family.

comparing this pricing to what i would have paid via factory gear...

DRPD: 3*$164.15 + 2*$108.10 = $708.65 shipped
FG (factoring in a hypothetical, generous $60 for package forwarding from japan):
  • 3*117.20 + 2*89.95 + 60 = $591.50 for the pre-order price
  • 3*129.92 + 2*99.94 + 60 = $649.64 for the "retail" price
meaning i "overpaid" by $59.01 to $117.15. oh well. not bad for a special edition tool indulgence :)

should you order from DRPD now or wait for nepros.net next month? it's a gamble. it may be cheaper to wait. but then again, what if it's not, or what if they don't sell them at all on nepros.net?

This is exciting news, someone other than Amazon to buy Japanese tools from.

Ordered my gold 3/8 ratchet from DRPD. I have ordered several pbswiss items from them in the past - Have never had an issue and they include a small packet of gummy bears with their order. :)
