Browsing the KTC Japan website I noticed they have a series of Nepros 3/8" ratchets crammed into 1/4" bodies. Regular, stubby, and flex head. I stumbled across this by looking at the ratchet rebuild kits. They had 2 kits that looked identical, but different parts #'s, so I investigated further.

Here's the regular 3/8" in 1/4" body:

http://ktc.jp/catalog/html/nbrc3un.php

Do any other companies do this?

I have a Snap-on FM70, which is a 1/4" pear-head ratchet body with a 3/8" drive. About 5" long. Very handy in tight places.

Is the Nepro website safe to buy from? Im very interested in buying Nepro tools but im kinda hesitant on purchasing it on the Nepro.net website. Has anybody ordered from the website recently and how well did the transaction go? Any help would be great!

Do a search , there are plenty of threads about Nepros and a lot of happy customers who ordered direct from Nepros Japan.

idiot proofing???
Prices about $100 for retail and $90 for stock/discount.

Are you refering to the directional arrow stamped on the beam? If so, Snap-On (Bahco) and Proto adjustable wrenches came with them too. Using it the other way would sooner or later lend you a sloppy floating jaw that we've all learnt to hate.

Btw, doesn't Rakuten or whoever, charge quite a bit for shipping?

You will need a American address for your credit card, or perhaps a visa gift card from the USA, and a PO box there too. Shouldn't be too much of a hassle driving down from Vancouver.

My transaction was smooth and easy. The checkout sends you to RBS world pay. Very fast shipping considering the tools are coming from Japan:beer:

Read this very thread from the begining. Pretty much alll of the tools you are seeing in this thread were purchased by various people from the Nepros.net website. That website is the manufacturer's website for US customers. Nepros is a line of tools from the company KTC. Earlier this week I received yet another tool ordered from Nepros.net. It's safe and legit.

Last month I placed a Nepros order and was told at the time the 3/8" ratchet was out of stock. I received it this week. Super nice looking ratchet like the rest of the Nepros Mirror tools. I used it today and it works well.

I tried opening my ratchet up to see if there was any grease inside, stripped one of the screws by using a no name screwdriver

I'll ask Eri if I can order the ratchet repair kit next time I order, even though it's not listed on their USA website.

Any pic's of the innards?

I first heard of Nepros in a PTEN magazine ad in 2000 or 2001. I emailed for a catalog and it arrived in 3-4 days. I didn't order any tools at the time, but received emails from them every couple of weeks. One email was for a promotion for a free tool of the reply was received by them within certain time limits. I replied and figured it would be a socket or screwdriver. A week or so later I received a stubby 3/8' quick release ratchet. I couldn't believe they would send something like that. I used it for a week or so in the shop and loved it. Nice heft and balance. Smooth action. I have the SO stubby, but II prefer the Nepros.
Now reading this thread makes me want to melt my credit card and load up.

Earlier this week, I received a package from KTC containing the below Nepros hand tool purchases.

#1 and #3 Cross Recess Screwdrivers with Striking Caps and Hex Bolsters

Nepros_ND1P2_Screwdrivers_3.jpg

On the Nepros retail website, they offer for sale the ND2P series cross recess screwdrivers. These screwdrivers do not have a metal striking cap. In addition, the top and bottom sections of the handle are yellow. I tried ordering the "ND2P-2" screwdriver as part of this order. Eri Inoue informed me that the ND2P series cross recess screwdrivers have been discontinued and replaced by the above pictured screwdrivers for the same prices.

Here is a comparison of machining and plating quality of the Nepros versus Proto Professional slip-joint pliers. Please note that I have lightly used the Proto slip-joint pliers.

Nepros Slip-Joint Inside Jaws

Nepros_Plier_3.jpg

Proto Professional Slip_Joint Inside Jaws

Proto_Plier_3.jpg

As you can see, the Nepros inner jaws are precisely machined and plated. The Proto jaws have nicks on the top portion of the teeth and small bubbles in the plating. In addition, specific areas of the Proto jaws are rusting.

That T handle and the slip joint pliers are just sick! Its like looking into a mirror on those pliers, and the T handle carry forwards the detail you see at the ends with the bump stops.

Congrats, and keep the pictures coming as you acquire more of their tools.

Simply outstanding . . .

Dave,

I commented on this before, about how you got NOS screwdrivers from them in one of your past purchases (the ones with the yellow handle). I've always wondered if they're sending NOS stuff to international customers. Prime example here is your flat head stubby screwdriver pictured above, and I think you also had a standard cross-recess screwdriver as well?

The quality of their surface preperation, in conjuction with their triple chrome plating process is simply second to none. There's no other hand tool manufacturer in the world that pays so much attention to each and every one of the tools that they send out their factory.

Pretty much a hall mark for the Japanese in most things they do. Its always about the detail, prep, and the overall final product for them.

It probably doesn't hurt that their production line is much smaller in quantity so QA isn't that much of a problem per say.

I doubt their production line is smaller than any of the other tool truck brands, KTC is a major manufacture in Japan.

The attention to detail for Japanese manufactured products is world class. Japan has their metallurgy down pat for sure.

When I was last in Japan, I saw 600 year old Katana's that looked brand new. The craftsmanship and quality of maintenance play a big part in keeping those blades of steel not only razor sharp, but also sharp looking.

I'm considering pulling the trigger on the Nepros 1/4" ratchet set with all the fixin's next pay day, and maybe their 3/8" 72 tooth round head ratchet. Ok, I've considered enough... I am going to purchase those gems and probably more :lol_hitti

Nepros.net

50-60% discounted from what you pay for them in Japan. Also, Nepros.net is the manufacturer, not a retailer

Bargain of the millennium for PRO tools!!! Only wished they flogged their regular KTC lineup too :(

Hrmm, that's not too bad. I was expecting much higher. Do you get charged with brokerage/duty fees all the time?

No brokerage fee from Canada Post if they deliver it. If you have to pick the parcel up at a local postal out let there will be a $5.00 handling charge.

With respect to the duty its a hit or miss thing depending upon which port of entry it comes through with Canada customs.

You can literally have an item valued at $20.00 and still be assessed PST, GST, but no duty.

In the same scenario, but from another port nothing is assessed.

Then, there is the Gong Show event where you will be assessed duty, tax's all on a $20.00 declared valued item, even if its marked as a gift!

I have had 4 items this last two months falling into the above case. Right now I am sending off the paper work to reclaim the said tax's as there should not have been anything levied on the parcels.

Stupid Aszzz Customs Idiots!

Oh yah, Eri Inoue of KTC Nepros customer service fame, told me there will be a new Nepros website for US customers to browse... It's in the works as we type...

How does this stuff compare to another japanese manufacturer like Koken? Just curious because comparing them to snap on or toptul isn't fair, but Koken should be a fair comparison. I might have to try some of these.... I was curious who is the higher quality tool in japan koken or Nepros? Who has been around longer?

Man I can't wait to get back to the states to see my order. I ordered from them the std 1/4", 3/8" fine, 3/8" long, and std 1/2" ratchets, plus Ph 1&2, the 3/8" u-joint, and 1/4" driver. I'm very tempted to build a full Nepros set with it's own tool box, but that will need to be done slowly over time as I really don't need it, I just want it!!

New Nepros order finally got picked up !!!! Sorry the individual picks were to blurry to post tonight, only the family shot.

Look close and you can see the difference in size between the 1/4" an 1/2" breaker bars.... makes me wanna crack up laughing when I hold them together.
