ARE WE NOT MEN??

Ok, kippieland shamed me into this but I'm glad I did it. What's a little snow (slush now) anyhow?

That is simply a beautiful picture.

The parts washer looks great. At $20 and a little fun time, that is a bargain. That is one thing I would like to have, but limited space keeps me in a stainless steel and some cleaner - Simple Green, gasoline, etc. It works for me.

You have the knack at getting others to contribute building supplies toward your project. Awesome. And the ride with a good companion, food, brute strength and awkwardness, you are on your way to finishing the inside of your shop. I wouldn't push too hard at getting them cleaned, dried and installed. You may want to wait for the weather to warm up a bit. Putting the boards up in the cold temperature may lead to unwanted warps and irregularities as they thaw out in spring. Although you probably have that problem solved as well.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks Jeff.........I guess I'm a good scrounge:). Either that or I spend way too much time on Craigslist.

As for the boards, I just dry them out for a couple days in the office "kiln". The temp here ranges from 20 one day to 50 the next. Patience is not one of my many virtues.

Congrats on the snow:D heehee

About time someone else got some!

As always, the shop is lookin' good and I look forward to see what is coming next. About how much % wise of your walls are left to cover using the reclaimed wood?

Thanks RL, I figure I'm probably about 75% done with the old boards. I have one more garage door to go around and finish the back wall where my bench is. I also want to do inside the gable on the north end. And finish trimming out the bottom of the trusses. I think the south end wall will just be OSB as it will just have shelving and hooks to hang the shovels and rakes etc. I'm not in the mood to build a garden shed. Yet.

BABY STEPS

After digging through the boards that I picked up recently I didn't have a ton to work with. Even some of the ones I used are a bit marginal. But, they are solid and painted on the back side so a couple of surface soft spots shouldn't hurt anything. The hunt is on for more:p.

I was able to get from the pole on the right on down to the next pole and that's it. I probably have enough to do most of the next set of trusses.

The end of the cabinets was looking unfinished and ugly so I trimmed it out with some more old boards. Looks better now:).

TB66, to clarify, it's "something"; at least, that's what I've been told often enough!

Your cabinet wall is really looking good, and to think you didn't have to pay for that patina; priceless!

Ya' know, all that unused scrap wood would probably burn pretty good in a homemade outdoor wood stove. Just saying...... http://www.motherearthnews.com/shopp...temnumber=1835

The only thing I think could be more utilitarian in the shop besides a good heat source is a fine copper urinal, I mean, the latter could be used year-round. :bounce:

Everywhere I've ever been for more than five minutes, and that's 48 States, Canada and Mexico, someone has said, "Don't like the weather? Just wait 5 minutes".
(can't afford Hawaii, can't think of a good enough reason to go to North Dakota).

That's probably way more info than you need but hey, I've been cooped up in my truck with my dog all day and he doesn't talk much. I bought him a cheeseburger anyway:).

DSCF0393.jpg
Was that dog sitting on the passenger side? - It looks like the truck is leaning that way! Well, MAAAAAYBE it's the wood doing it :) Cheeseburgers, eh? I guess the diet starts NEXT week huh. Just kidding TB66. I can make fun because one of our dogs is weight challenged. Unfortunately though, Mrs. Shopnut and I have no one to blame but ourselves for not walking them enough.

The detail on the end cabinet is perfect

Looking good there TB. I know around my area it takes a long time to come across those fence boards. Especially this time of year. Looking good so far though.

Thanks, those boards are hard to come by around this time of year. I get most of mine from one small fence contractor and he's pretty slow now. Gotta be patient I guess:(.

It may be showing off, but you have a right to when you're that good.

Looks Great, Paul!

Arrrrgh! My head swelled up and I can't get my hat off!! Seriously, thanks a bunch. What a journey.

Hahaha...........Our weiner dog is the porky one. Axel, the GS mix that rides with me is too skinny so I'm trying to fatten him up. It's a dilemma I tell ya.

LIGHTS!!.....almost...

I've been playing around with the lights I got from Nighttrain (thanks again). I thought I would put 5 up under the cabinets but 4 worked out better.

I went and got some white, black and green wire and hooked them together. I forgot to take a pic while they were open but I soldered everything and then heat shrunk it.

DSCF0479.jpg

I just used some wire loom stuff from AutoZone to spruce it up:

DSCF0478.jpg

I bought a couple feet of cord and a male end to go on the last one. Then I mounted a box and outlet under the cabinet. The outlet is wired from the switch you see there. I tested everything and I think it's good to go. Waiting on bulbs (Monday-Wednesday) to arrive. I bought a bunch through Amazon 'cuz they are about half the price that the robbers around here want. I just looked at Nighttrain's post of his and I think I'm gonna like how they work:).

LOL, I knew I better get mine installed before you did. I knew you would do a better job installing them than I did. I can barely spell solder let alone do that. Wire ties for me. Can wait to see them installed.

Mr. TinBender -- You've done a great job all the way around. Yours shop was one of the original few that caught my attention when I first found GJ and I've been following along. Just wanted to say the place is looking great and I love how you've taken little bits pieces and put it all together into a really nice looking place to work and relax (and build copper urinals!). Really digging what you've done with all the classic tools as well. Keep up the great work!

Thanks SpeedinLemon, kind words indeed. Somehow (RL) I've gotten hooked on the old tools. GJ has ruined me for life. In a good way:).

As for the copper urinal........................I guess it just won't die:(. Maybe I'll make one and put it out on a tree.

CABINET LIGHTS LIVE!!

I got my light bulbs yesterday (cool white) from Amazon and got everything hooked up and working. That mismatched end cabinet is really tickin' me off now as it makes that light lower than the rest. I'll have to step up my efforts to find one that sorta matches. Thanks to another member I found what looks to be a cool building salvage place that's fairly close. Goin' browsing tomorrow:).

Your progress is very illuminating! They really look great.

BTW, put it on a tree on the back side of the shop for a little privacy.

Yeah new pics! Look awesome...I need new lights under mine...they aren't near bright enough. Great job as usual!

Thanks guys, I like these a lot better than the track lights I had up there. They each have two outlets in them which could come in handy. They say 9 amps max but that should do for most things I would run at the bench.

I googled the patent # and it originated in 1958. The company is still around but they don't seem to make the ones with the outlets anymore. They do make the same size (F13 T5 21"). They are spendy little buggers!

I have a couple that I haven't used yet. I'll sell 'em to ya:bounce:.

I've been poking around looking for covers too without much luck. I'm thinking about making some. I might have an idea. If it works and looks good I'll send ya some.

TB66, those 'Nighttrain' lights look great! Talk about 'mood' lighting for the shop, they just make you want to get in there and do some work on that bench; maybe even some 'creative copper crafting'. (Wink - Wink - Nudge - Nudge) lol

Hey slacker, did you get those lights turned on and call it quits? Oh wait, I bet you've been spending the last week preparing for a massive Superbowl party, weren't ya? My invitation must have been lost in the mail

Those lights look great. Much better fit than the other ones.

And I see you're building up your library of avatars. The new one is nice. I just hope you weren't one of the charter members. :) (hehehe, j/k)

Superbowl? I'm boycotting it until the Seahawks get there. If I live long enough.

Yeah I've been trying to come up with an avatar that says something about me. The Alfred E. Neuman one was close lol.

Charter member?? Hah! I invented it. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Ok, since I've been accused of being a slacker:D, here are a couple pics of the dark side or dark end I guess.

The south end has become a repository for assorted junk, furniture, paint cans and auto parts. I'm starting to insulate down there so everything is getting drug out. Some to the dump, some to Habitat (Tuesday) and the rest will get stored in a solution that is yet to evolve.

Next week I need to do a little work on the Impala. After that the old '78 Chev P/U needs some attention on the fuel system. Then, finally, the VW will get moved over into bay one and the motor comes out. When it comes back out of there it will be back in it's owner's (my wife) loving arms. It shouldn't be too bad of a job:eek:.

Once the VW moves I can get everything on that end organized. And if I do it right a car won't be able to fit in that bay anymore:D.

Here's a couple pics of backward forward progress lol.

I think my entire garage counts as a repository for assorted junk:D

Oh, and things are looking pretty good!

(still waiting for the copper urinal)

Nothing earth-shaking here. The place is still totaled from working on the "everything I didn't know what to do with end". I'll be finished with this phase of painting tomorrow and get everything somewhat put back together. I need the room to do the intake gaskets on the Impala:sad:. Fun.

I did finally splurge on some quality drill bits (Precision Twist Drill Co.) to fill that antique drill index I showed a while back. They are HSS black oxide screw machine length bits. 29 pieces from 1/16 to 1/2 by 64ths.

DSCF0548.jpg

DSCF0540.jpg

I also took a pickup load of furniture to Habitat Restore. Of course I had to bring something home too:D. They had 4 pieces of 2 foot wide slat wall for cheap so I got it. It will probably go down on the end for shovels and other implements of destruction.
