TB66, man, you are in the home stretch now! That wall looks so-o-o-o good; aside from that 'odd' little hanging cabinet on the right. (hee-haw, just kidding) At the rate at which you are banging out the punch list on the shop, you may run out of projects to work on and may just have to resort to crafting curious cones of corroding copper connected to tree trunks around the shop. (heh-heh, notice I never mentioned the 'U-word'!)

Yeah baby! That's looking good Paul! Told you it wasn't gonna be pedestrian for long!

Thanks fergus! When I first joined this place I thought it was pretty "pedestrian" compared to what I saw here. But cruising GJ got me thinking of ways to personlize it without draining my puny bank account. It's turned into quite a fun project. More to come.

Getting better all the time! Looking great.....BTW we had baseball practice for my 7-8 year olds today....80 something degrees and everyone in shorts! Just some more warm weather love from Texas! Fine work as always sir!

Thanks SiL. Unfortunately we only have two seasons here: Winter and August:).

I just spent the last few hours reading about your build and I must say I am a fan. I like using reclaimed materials whenever possible. I especially like the use of fence boards on the walls. My son and I just bought another house and we are planning on following your lead with the fence boards. The picture below is my small work bench complete with donated book case cabinet with underside lights. Solid core door cut down for work bench top. legs were reclaimed fence posts. Nice job on your project.

Thanks Hotrod, it's amazing what one can do with some sweat equity and not much money isn't it?

Looking good Paul.

Thanks kippie!!

Thanks Ompha. It really feels good to get that wall done. It's all downhill from here. Yes, when I get caught up I'll be sure and jump on the c c c of c c. Hold your breath:D!!

I started another little project last night just for the heck of it. Better than watching TV:).

Here are a few pics of what I'm doing although I'm not gonna say what it is yet. If it turns out I'll show it. If not, you'll have to wonder forever haha.

Whatever it is there are sure a lot of pieces!

Ok, it's just this silly thing. Just something that's been bouncing around in my head for a while in one form or another. It was pretty fun to make. 36 pieces of wood, weird angles etc. It shows my automotive allegiance I guess.

That wall looks great TB66. And the Bow-Tie is the perfect compliment to it - glad to see that. Looks like you gave that saw a good workout.

So is there a VW logo in the works for the other wall? Or is that car just passing through?

Thanks shopnut. Funny, I just got on here to post a progress pic and there you were.

Nope, no VW logos in this building. That thing is just passin' through. It'll be back outside in a month or two. My wife is taking over the small shop so if she wants a VW logo I'll make her one.

Now that I have that wall done around the corner I can move my exhaust hood and fan from the little shop and get that place ready for a little remodel. Mrs. TB is getting antsy to make it her own.

MORE PROGRESS

I thought I would run out of fence boards but I ended up having enough to get half of the end wall done with about six boards to spare. Now that I've got that corner done I can think about putting up my exhaust hood and hanging the fan. I almost forgot to wire in the power and the switch for it! My yet to be built welding table will be going in that area also. The VW will be evicted pretty soon!

We took a little side trip yesterday up to the BIL's place on Whidbey Island and I took a couple shots of his garage. I didn't get much of the interior for some reason. It's 36x36x14 tall.

The garage:

The house:

The hot rod, '36 Ford, small block Chevy (sorry Ford guys, he doesn't know any better haha):

Kind of neat small storage idea:

Paul, I have a former co-worker that retired from St Pete, FL up to Whidbey Island. Not totally sure why since we have islands around here without snow on the roof.

Nice rod your BIL has. Looks fun. And his garage looks like it has potential.

Funny, the night before I took those pics we got about 3" of snow. It went away pretty quick. It got a little summerish around here also.

Haha, thought I sometimes envy you guys that stay warm most of the time but I really don't think I could live anywhere else.

The BIL garage does have a lot of potential but I don't think he's planning on doing a whole lot to it. He did build a nice workbench and a mezzanine for storage and making guitar noises.

Switching to a Ford wouldn't be too bad. The two daily drivers at my household are both Chevy's, my project car however is a 1953 Ford Customline. It's good either way.

Well TB66, if you get the Ford truck, you'll just have to make the blue oval for the wall after all! Have you introduced your BIL to this addictive forum yet? From the pictures of his place, he'd fit right in. Is your BIL's place near Maxwelton? I used to hangout there on the weekends; great area to get away from it all.

The shop wall just continues to impress. Are you going to have to cover some of that beautiful wood when you install your welding station? I'm half expecting to see some decorative COPPER paneling from the hood on down to the floor and some lovely COPPER planter boxes re-purposed as welding/grinding tool storage. Ya' know, just another little project to keep your metalwork skills honed razor sharp. :D

Good guess Ompha! He lives on Maxwelton road! I'm workin' on him as far as his garage goes but not much progress yet.

I will be covering some of that wall to try and keep from burning the place down but I have an idea that I think will look pretty good. I need one more load of boards first. The fence man has been good to me but dang he's hard to get ahold of sometimes. It'll happen. The list is gettin' shorter but it's still a formidable list:eyecrazy:.

I'll do everything in copper if you'll buy the material:D. Thanks for stoppin' by.

Looks like some folks want you to get busy building some things out of COPPER.

Hmm...I think I agree with them:D

How many walls are left for the fence boards?

Copper schmopper:D.

Fence boards? I just need enough to do one half of the end wall, around the last garage door and the gables then I'm done with phase 192 out of a million:).

Good news: I just got a text from Fence Man saying he has a big job next week with good boards. I hope it comes through 'cuz that should about do it.

Right now I'm gutting the old small shop. Tore out some of the benches and cabinets, removed shelving etc. Next I repair all the damage I did to the sheet rock, prime it then turn it over to my wife. I'm sure she'll have a fair sized list of things she wants done in there too. It's nice to see her kind of pumped up about having a space that's all hers.

I hope your fence guy doesn't know what you are doing with his waste. If he ever saw a picture, he could really start charging you to haul away his junk. And with the end of the tunnel so close, you'd probably pay!

Maybe he already knows:sad:. I just texted him and asked if any news and he wrote back "none". I'm so close that it's getting frustrating! I'll give him a couple more weeks and then if I can't get anything from him or someone else I'll finish the last half of that end wall with something else. It's getting slat wall on it anyway. We'll see.

A LITTLE DETOUR

Mrs. TB was getting a little antsy to have her own space so I decided to move the rest of my stuff out of the little shop and start making it over to her specs. This little building (16X16) served me pretty well for over 20 years. It was great as a place to keep my tools and work on hobby stuff etc. It's insulated, heated, wired for tv etc.

Here's the outside. It's getting painted as soon as the weather dries out. Painting the house too.

Lindasshop001.jpg

The inside was kind of a mess from airbrushing and just 20 years of accumulation .

002.jpg

This exhaust hood has been taken down and will be installed in the garage along with the fan that's up in the attic.

Here it is after a couple days of work. I've removed a lot of bench and cabinets per the boss's request.

Lindasshop004.jpg

Lindasshop008.jpg

It needs a lot of sheet rock repair. I put a few new holes in it taking out the benches:sad:.

The latest step is cleaning out the attic which was pretty stuffed. I can't believe some of the things I saved:dunno:. I have it cleaned out enough to at least retrieve the fan and ductwork that goes with that hood. I already made one trip to the dump and probably one more plus a couple things to put on CL.

It's kinda fun plus Mama's happy:D.

Your old shop looked like a great space for hobby projects - what is Mrs TB planning to do with it now?

BTW - you're not throwing away any "good" junk, are ya?

That old place looks like it helped put together plenty of models. I'm sure Mrs. TB66 will have many more years of use in there.

I hope your new loft area doesn't get too crowded with the 'good junk' that you just can't let go of yet.

You know the story.. Slow at work.. 2 kids in braces.. = Slow Garage progress. i will post some updates up soon!

Boy, I know that drill. I've been through the braces thing. Not cheap!!

It was a great space for hobby type stuff. Spent many enjoyable hours holed up in there!

Mrs. TB has a couple of hobbies and hundreds of books that will find a home in there.

No good junk was sacrificed:D

Haha, the new loft is pretty well organized so that everything is accessible with having to dig through a bunch of stuff. Not much else is going up there. I plan on having a bunch of storage on that end wall if I ever get enough boards to finish it.
