Your toolbox looks great! Go to Hobby Lobby or other similar store and get a paint marker. It's oil based and opaque, it would be the way you want it (painted) they way you can (marker style). Just a thought! Keep up the great work!

A gratuitis bump but hey, it's garage related.

I was cruising CL a few days ago and saw this parts washer for $25 and it was only about 2 miles from me. So, I went and looked and got it for $20.

I took it all apart cleaned it, stripped it etc. I painted it with engine paint so we'll see how it holds up. The pump works good. Just gotta get a bucket of solvent and something greasy to try it out. It won't get used a ton but there have been many times that I wished I had one.

And I seem to recall the factory lids have some kind of safety feature that allows the lid to close in the event of a fire.

Thats funny I just picked up the same one in the same condition for $20 also. The guy told me it takes 8 gallons just to get it to pump Im still trying to find some cheaper solvant for it.What were you going to use?

Thanks shopnut, I thought about the black but I had two cans of Chevrolet blue engine paint and I'm cheap. I kinda like it this way. I didn't get a lid with it but I can whip one up next time I'm near a place I used to work. I'm sure I could devise a way to hinge it with some sort of fusible link setup. Hmmm....

Yeah, send me some parts. You know, like some 12 bolt stuff or Muncie stuff. I'll be sure and get it back to you hahaha.

I'm not sure how much it takes to get this one going but the pump inlet is right at the bottom so it seems like it oughta work without being too full. We'll see. There's a Chevron petroleum distributor about 3 miles from my house so I'll go see what they have as far as solvents. The guy I bought it from got his solvent there. When I find out how much $$ I'll report back.

Good idea Nighttrain. I forgot about that stuff. I used it when I was building models to strip bad paint jobs. I wonder if it will strip the paint off of my parts washer. I'd like to have some around anyway so I think I'll get a gallon and do an experiment. Nice thing is that it is not flammable.

Nice find. I've heard you can use diesel...or kerosene...or maybe even a little biodiesel. Biodiesel is hard on pump seals though. Also, I've heard of guys with some H2O in the basin BELOW where the pickup for the pump is. With an oil based solvent above, the solvent will float on top of the water, but the crud and dirt will fall down into the water. Keeps the solvent clean longer...or just makes it last longer. I'd guess you could drain dirty water out the bottom and then put some more in from the top when the water got dirty.

Anyways, maybe over-kill for you, but just something I've been thinking about. I've even thought about rigging a separate trap (like a mason jar with a modified lid) below the main tank so all the dirt could fall down into it. With a ball valve in between the main tank and the trap, cleaning could be as easy as shutting a valve and unscrewing a lid, rinsing the water trap out and refilling. Okay. I'll stop now!

2. Pilots are notriously sensitive to getting dirty and that stuff always made stuff feel dirty...you are probably not such a whimp as I am.

Yeah, Nighttrain really came through bigtime! The lights are flourescent. They take a 21" 13 watt T-5 bulb. They're designed as an under cabinet light so they should be fine. I'll get some bulbs this week and some stuff to string 'em together. That, plus getting more boards tomorrow, I'm jazzed.

looking good is that your house in back round?what made you choose shingles over metal roofing and are you using metal for the siding or you using vynle

Thanks man.........Yes, that's my house in the background. I used comp shingles mainly 'cuz they're cheap. And, they match the house. Being involved in the architectural metal industry turned me into a kind of metal snob so the only stuff I'd use is pretty spendy. Someday, I'd like to do the house and then the garage to match. Someday.

The siding is T-111 (wood).

BOARDS...........FINALLY!!

I finally got more fence boards today. Yay! I got them from the same fence builder that I've gotten most of them from. Of course it involved about a 130 mile round trip! Left at noon and didn't get home 'til after dark. He just cuts them down so I diassemble them first and then load 'em up. Hard to see in the pic but most of them are pretty good. I took all the junk too to keep him happy as he's got another job coming up soon and I think I need one more load to have enough.

I was supposed to get barn boards from another guy. I went down there and it was pretty much a bust. I don't think he tore it down. It either fell down or he pulled it down with a truck or something because most of the usable stuff was buried under the roof. I took what I could get to and called it good (?). That's probably way more info than you need but hey, I've been cooped up in my truck with my dog all day and he doesn't talk much. I bought him a cheeseburger anyway.

I'll pressure wash tomorrow if it gets out of the dang 20's.

No worries. The extended weather calls for highs in the mid to upper 30's and lows in the mid 20's. I'm not in that much of a hurry. Mid 40's is ok. Besides, my hose is frozen. I think I'll go get some flex and stuff and string some cool lights together. I'll order bulbs onlline. I ain't payin' what the box stores want.

I do have a big truck but I didn't license it yet as it needs a little work. It's a beast. '78 Chevy 3/4 ton. My FIL bought it new and it just hit 100K. 10mpg lol. I did drive it 1600 mile rt to pick up my Nova. Never missed a beat.
As for man's best friend, as soon as I grab a set of keys he goes nuts. Then he sleeps for the whole trip.

It seems to be an OK little truck. I bought it from an old guy who didn't use it too much. It only had 60K on it when I got it. Other than the paint falling off of it, numerous electrical problems, lousy gas mileage etc. it's a fine truck.

We got about the same amount as you did, but its a very dry, buffy snow...not like the wet heavy stuff you guys get. That stuff is awful...it aways seems to come down super fast there to. I hated it when it snowed while I was there.

Heres a pic for 08 when we got a grand total of 96 inches of snow in one year...now that sucked!

Good news for you, it should be gone as fast as it came. Snow never seems to last that long there....though you are in the convergent zone!

That is simply a beautiful picture.

The parts washer looks great. At $20 and a little fun time, that is a bargain. That is one thing I would like to have, but limited space keeps me in a stainless steel and some cleaner - Simple Green, gasoline, etc. It works for me.

You have the knack at getting others to contribute building supplies toward your project. Awesome. And the ride with a good companion, food, brute strength and awkwardness, you are on your way to finishing the inside of your shop. I wouldn't push too hard at getting them cleaned, dried and installed. You may want to wait for the weather to warm up a bit. Putting the boards up in the cold temperature may lead to unwanted warps and irregularities as they thaw out in spring. Although you probably have that problem solved as well.
