Just finished reading....fantastic job! You've got a nice spot with the land, house, and the other two buildings. The garage is quite impressive - love the layout and feel of it, and the office area is perfect. It puts my detatched 2-car garage and my underground lair (unfinished basement) to shame.

I am lucky enough to have found one of those Craftsman bandsaws with the Slo-Speed converter - I wanted the saw anyway but that thing sealed the deal. Mine's similar to fergus's, but without the metal case unfortunately:

Thanks man, I've been somewhat remiss a checking CL for a while. I've been busy working in the house. It's way past due for paint and refinishing work. Nothing major except the master bath will be redone. I'll get a bit done in the garage this winter I hope. Gonna get my wife's VW started on in the next couple of weeks too. The house is paid off as of TODAY!!!!

Wow. What a wonderful project. Hard work, ingenuity and doing things the right way on a shoestring budget. I love it. I'm addicted to this ****** Garage Journal !!

Thanks Blackhawks63! GJ truly is an addictive place! I've got lots more to do but the house has got my atttention at the moment. Stay tuned, lots of plans for the 'barn' too!

Thanks Ody! Not a lot of dollars per month involved but it feels good nonetheless! No car payments or payment payments either. Working on the "rat hole" stash for some fun stuff. Waiting to see your 356 come home to roost!

Thanks Dave. Up until last night we spent about a week in the mid 20's. MId 30's right now. Warmer weather coming but of course that mean lotsa rain.

I have the money right now to finish my insulation and get some heat in the garage but I'm knee deep in house projects. Got our bedroom painted then turned the boy's old bedrooms back into bedrooms. They had become storerooms. We did a major declutter. Threw some stuff away, donated a lot to the senior center store. Then we painted, installed new trim and had them carpeted. Ones is 100%, the other one is close.

Next up is the master bath. There is a little floor damage behind the tub (clawfoot) to fix then all new tile, vanity and a "comfort height" toilet for my wife. Easy peasy hahaha.

After that I'll spend some quality time buttoning up the garage before I tear into a few projects downstairs in the house.

I was at the local hardware and lumber store yesterday and they had a deal on insulation so I snagged enough to do my overhead. That's the last thing I need to do to put heat in here. Kinda uncharacteristic for around here but it was 9° here this am. It probably won't get done 'til after Christmas but I'll order a unit heater in the mean time and be ready to go.

As you can probably see, the place is in dire need of a clean up also. Most of the mess is from working in the house. A lot of it is going to the dump or the electronic recycle. Then the VW is going on skates. I have a friend that's going to help me with that project so I can finally get it out of here.

Thanks KF, I built that hood over 20 years ago at a shop I worked at. It was in the little shop at first. Moves quite a bit of air. I've also had that little Delta sander for over 20 years. It does come in handy.

True that! But you have done a lot with what you have.

Had to move back to the West due to the poor employment situation on the East. For the better...we moved this summer to the South Sound (Capital) and got a house with 5 acres of Forest. House is awesome but has a NASTY 25x30 pole building that is going to need A LOT of work. Going to use your thread for ideas!

Funny enough, I saw Western Washington State and I immediately thought, "boy I want to go see this place!" Eric said you are in Arlington, I haven't read through the whole thread yet, but I've been skipping through it skimming if you will.

We're not sure Jason. He's got some German Shepard and maybe some Sheltie type dog in him judging by his coat and the "feathers" on his legs. He was a rescue pup. He's about 55 pounds and a really great dog.

The VW is in really nice shape. We bought it fresh from restoration about ten years ago. The motor is getting rebuilt starting next week. A V-8. Hah! All I want to do is lower it some and put some 8 spoke wheels on it and Mrs. TB says huh-uh, just leave it alone!

Not sure if you've come out to the Leavenworth drive, but this guy brings a twin turbo beetle with a Porsche motor I believe it is. It is making some crazy power.

In other news, glad the insulation is going in! Really can't wait to come check this out when it's done. You will have to have a Gj meet-up for sure

Welllll..........I got started on Mama's VW heart transplant. After hitting a few roadblocks and spending too much time on YouTube researching how to do stuff I loaded the whole works on a trailer and took it to the local bug expert. He's got a good reputation and works pretty reasonably. We get it back in about two weeks instead of however long it would have taken me. So, I don't have to work on it and Mrs. TB will be happy. Win-win.

It is nice to have all my space back. Those bed frames will be gone as soon as we're done painting the other spare bedroom.

A garden shed is coming this spring for the lawn mower and all the dirt moving implements. It's time to build a proper little house for my well apparatus anyway so I might as well make it big enough for all that other stuff.



On another note I finally got a little heat in here. I thought I would go with a propane setup but after adding in all up I would be out around 2K so I decided to try this little 7500 watt Fahrenheat unit. I was pleasantly surprised.

It's been low 30's here at night and it keeps the garage at 60° running 12 minutes per hour. Not bad for 1150 sq. ft. I have ceiling fans up high in the two center bays and I think that really helps spread the heat around.

Wouldn't the appropriate time for a gathering be DURING the insulating nightmare! Since I'm far enough away to beg off, I just thought I'd throw that out there! Nothing fun about insulating (obstacles or no obstacles), but it's amazing the difference a good insulation job makes.

The place is coming along great Paul...and congrats on no more mortgage payment (or any other for that matter!). That is truly an accomplishment.

Good to see the bug coming along too....what will you have left to do on it when it get's back from the hospital?

Oh...and make that garden shed a little bigger than you think you'll need if you can....It's a great place to stash most anything you don't want cluttering up the shop!
