I need to finish insulating my shop. I have a portable torpedo heater to use when I am in the shop but would like to hook up a propane heater on a thermostat so I can keep It around 50 when I am not there.

In case u haven't seen these, they work very well for kerosene heaters and I used one all the time.

And great to see the Bug work has started. Just curious, what was wrong with the engine? I'm approaching that fork in the road in the near future. It has been 25+ years since I helped my dad rebuilt this engine and I'm nit sure if I want to try it again, farm it out or just replace it with new.

wow..... TB up until recently i havnt been on the site.... and i got to say your shop may be in my top 5 favorite shops on the site..... mainly because it was done on the cheap and using old cabinets etc instead of buying all new....so im really digging the repurposed fence boards on the wall..... they look great. how do you like the office? do you do much in there? also i may have missed but did you sell the Malibu? sorry for the 10000 questions but trying to catch up..... lol i just went thru the whole thread front to back. kinda sad to see the nova go... but i understand... mine just sits...not much time or money lol.... also what did you und up doing with the corner where the desk was? also what about mrs tb lil mom cave? lol... ok thats enough questions for now..... again i really LOVE the garage

Thanks Ody! We'll see how that "two weeks" thing turns out. At any rate I think it will probably be done quicker than if I did it myself.

Congrats on the heat in the shop. Tonight is one night I could use it here. Fortunately for us heat is only needed maybe a few weeks a year. Happy New Years and hope for a great year in your shop.

Wouldn't the appropriate time for a gathering be DURING the insulating nightmare! Since I'm far enough away to beg off, I just thought I'd throw that out there! Nothing fun about insulating (obstacles or no obstacles), but it's amazing the difference a good insulation job makes.

The place is coming along great Paul...and congrats on no more mortgage payment (or any other for that matter!). That is truly an accomplishment.

Good to see the bug coming along too....what will you have left to do on it when it get's back from the hospital?

Oh...and make that garden shed a little bigger than you think you'll need if you can....It's a great place to stash most anything you don't want cluttering up the shop!

The bug should only need a good detailing when it gets back. It's been sitting for quite awhile, part of the time outside. It looks like a new one when it's all cleaned up. Other than that my wife is just gonna drive the wheels off it.

As for the garden shed it's gotta be big enough to enclose the pressure tank and electrical for the well (4' x 4') and the well cover (3' dia.), then house the lawn mower and have room for the slatwall and all the stuff that's on it. Plus some room to move around in there. I figure I can pull some 120 off one leg of the pump electrical for a light and one outlet.

The Bug engine was almost seized from being low on oil. Might just be a seized piston but I decided to have it completely rebuilt since it's out of the car anyway. It's getting all new internal parts, getting balanced etc. He's also doing the rear brakes because I got tired of breaking stuff trying to get those axle nuts loose. He can do them for about what it would cost me to buy a torque multiplier than I might never use again. While he's in there he will also install the new parking brake cables that I bought.

My wife wants her Bug to stay bone stock. Your Bus could maybe use a little more "oomph".

The office: It's a nice place to take a break, waste time on GJ, etc. I hardly ever turn that TV on. It was a good place to warm up before I got heat in the garage.

I finally got busy and started to do something in that odd back corner. Got the framing up this morning. I need to go get a sheet of plywood for it and then I can plan some shelving for underneath.

I finished up my little project. I sheeted it with some OSB, hung a light and threw a little paint on the face. I went to Lowes to get some crummy lumber to build a shelf when a wave of laziness swept over me and I came home with a store bought shelf instead. Made in the USA even!

I think I'm gonna stick the fridge back in that corner since it doesn't really fit my decor.

Thanks a bunch Dirk! Ya better start now, you'll be my age before you know it! I can't believe I'm my age. I've got about ten years in this thing now and it's been a very rewarding process. I still have more plans but at least I can work comfortably in here now.

A NEW "FREELOADER" IN THE PEDESTRIAN GARAGE!!

I picked up a new friend today. Freeloader is probably a misnomer since I'm sure it's gonna cost me more money. As it is, it's a VERY nice car, super straight, awesome paint, etc. It's as nice underneath as it is on top. Mild 350, 4-speed. I'm a happy camper!! It has a couple of minor issues as any nearly 50 year old car would but nothing some tinkering can't take care of.

One more thing. I had some money stashed for such a thing but I was about 5K short, so I called my wife to see about taking that money from our savings account. Her only words: GO FOR IT. No wonder I married her!! I'll probably put this in the general garage forum also, but I thought I'd put it here first.

Tomorrow I can get some outdoor pics but these will have to suffice for now.
