Hello Tinbender 66,

A little late, but congrats on the acquisition of the Chevy! That is one gorgeous ride; it reminds me a bit of my 47 Plymouth (red, louvers, wheels, stance) but has WAY more ponies than mine! :thumbup:

I'm hoping to find something in the next few months that will scratch that high-horsepower itch that has nagged me since I retired...:lol_hitti

Hope all is well with the pedestrian garage, looking forward to more updates.

Thanks kbuhagiar! I dropped the back about 1.5". It needs to go another inch so I gotta raise the upper trunk floor a bit as it is already bottoming there. No big deal for an old tinbender. Then I think I'll change the wheels and one size smaller tire on the front and it should 'sit right". I couldn't just buy it and drive it. Gotta make it my own.

I thought for sure I commented on the car, but if not, then WOW, love it! I bet it is a hoot to drive!

I also sort of like the idea of buying something that is nearly put together, versus working on something for a long time and investing so heavily in it and then trying to drive it. I think maybe something can be enjoyed in a different (and maybe sometimes, better) way when there is not such a strong connection to it.

In any case, I admire you for consolidating and investing in something that you really love. I'm trying to do that myself and it is REALLY hard!!!

Thanks Dave! I ain't getting any younger so this one should do it for me. Albeit with a 'few" improvements. It's also way cheaper to buy somebody elses work than to do it yourself (usually). It really is a thrill to drive. Now to get to that Craftsman bronze bandsaw. Got some adirondaks to make!

Thanks Don. I liked the Nova too but I needed something a little nastier and I can't afford a collection. I think this one will do just fine.

I have also seen/heard about what some guys are willing to put into a car and then end up selling for a loss. I'd be curious about what makes the difference between profit and loss in this sort of thing. I bet Mark or Don would have a lot of insight into that since they do it for a living. In any case, I am definitely aligning more and more these days with the 'have one you love' versus 'have several of the ones you like'.

It has proven a worthwhile philosophy, especially with women:D:lol_hitti

Such an amazing garage! Great work. I found this thread when looking for a way to finish the inside of my future shop at the cabin and it's what introduced me to GJ! I read this whole thread and it wasn't til a few months later that I signed up to be a member here. So it's essentially your fault that I'm addicted to vises and creeping other people's garages tinbender! Ha ha

Oh sure, blame me! I too was "normal" until I stumbled on this site, then it's all downhill from there. It's a fun ride though. Someday I'll get something else done and revive this thread.

On another note, my wife was born in Winnipeg so I know how you Winnipegians are.

On another note I finally got a little heat in here. I thought I would go with a propane setup but after adding in all up I would be out around 2K so I decided to try this little 7500 watt Fahrenheat unit. I was pleasantly surprised.

It's been low 30's here at night and it keeps the garage at 60° running 12 minutes per hour. Not bad for 1150 sq. ft. I have ceiling fans up high in the two center bays and I think that really helps spread the heat around.

Okay, glad I could help. Now that the heater has been in there for more than a year, my elec. bill is on "averaging" so it's the same every month so as of now it[s costing me about $60 a month to keep it warm in there year round. Well worth it to me.

Great thread. I am going to come when I have a little down time and read through it. I find late evenings I pick the journal and skim through it as I have limited time. Not yours I am going to make the time. I appreciate the effort and content of your thread. Thanks

If I had it to do over again I'd go28-32 deep.24 is good for the hot rod and my wife's VW but it doesn't work so good for my Chevy crew cab. It wouldn't cost a whole lot more. If your overhead door is in the narrow end it wouldn't matter so much but if they are on the long side a little more depth would be nice.

Thanks Ken, I changed the wheels out for American Torque Thrusts. Much better. I'll get a picture on here if Photobucket hasn't screwed me yet.

Other than that just a couple repairs (master cylinder, brake lines).

The other day the bolt that holds the alternator bracket broke off in the cylinder head. Took some doin' but I got that out. Gonna put it back together tonight.

Mostly just having fun with it.

I think the pics that are still there are from fotki. The photobucket ones have disappeared. P-bucket got sold to some new and I think you have to re-subscribe. Maybe I can fix it. We'll see. I might be able to recreate some of it but it'll take a while.

No rush, I was just curious because it sounds like a neat looking place and you do some car stuff I like. Photobucket being sold trashed lots of threads. Because it is 32 pages long, do you know where the pics that are viewable are?

The pics seem to start showing up again at about page 12 then they look to all be there 'til the end.
