Nice finds r-olson! I really like those Blackhawk rats! I've got a couple of those Popular Mech. ratchets in the Easco flavor. Those are nice too! And the SK Artisan...

Here's my ratchet take for the weekend.
3/8" RHFT Easco with no quick release
3/8" Thorsen 77J
1/2" RHFT Craftsman
1/2" Plomb pebble

Picked up another vintage Craftsman box head ratchet today. Looks to be a model made between 1953 and 1956.

Over here....
Scored some Snap-on 9/32 drive ratchets, sockets, extensions and several bits.

Will post up some photos tomorrow when the camera battery charges up.

This ratchet has the letters BX cast just below the head. I searched the Web and none of the others I found have this lettering. Does anyone know what the letters BX tell about this ratchet?

Here are a couple 1920s Husky rats. I believe the top one is earlier based on the crudeness of the forging and the later oil port in the bottom example.04fbf2d9360cd59296034a7253312b7d.jpg57191656b08385bda2203a318c2a3cc1.jpg032ed19b46754c4dbbff2815ef8e2ff3.jpg202501d1c6f67faab500500b5adcb76e.jpg

Never seen that one before. It is probably made in Jamestown NY where crescent is from. Is there any Pat numbers on it?

Never heard that term before. Because of the handle shape?

Female rat, 1/4" with square holes and/or a socket head at the other end of the handle. Like this from Google.

Nice find on the 1/4 speedmaster. That is a tough one to find.

Sharing some more images of the Power-Kraft #4815 00T ratchet. I saw the patent number on it (3815451) and had to look it up to discover that the selector switch was a button/socket release mechanism. Pretty interesting. Anyone have this ratchet in other brands?

Link to patent is HERE.

Pretty sure it's a Thorsen. I seem to remember seeing pics of a Thorsen with those dual ejector pins on here before.

Thorsen wouldn't surprise me since they had made some Powr-Kraft ratchets in the past.

The socket is only stamped GE, it's actually a Mac made socket. Being near the main GE aviation facilities, I've actually found a few GE branded tools.

Looking for some advice here. I recently picked up this 3/8" drive Challenger 1260-4 by PROTO ratchet from the flea. It was cheap and seemed to work well, so I picked it up knowing that the detent ball had fallen out.

I took it apart and cleaned it up. All the internals look and function great. For all the abuse it's had, it seems to be in great shape functionally.

So, the detent ball... I've read a bunch of threads on how to replace it. I have some regular punches handy, but nothing specific for staking in a new ball.
What type of spring should I put in there?
I'm going to try and find an appropriate size ball locally.
Is there a staking punch or inexpensive set that's available for purchase somewhere?

I called PROTO (well, Stanley B&D) and they don't have a rebuild kit in the system for the Challenger #1260-4. Does anyone know if there is a kit for another 3/8" PROTO empire ratchet that will fit? It's got the double see-saw pawl. Really is a nice ratchet. :dunno:

Maybe you could check to see if Twertsy has a parts ratchet with a useable drive. I checked and I don't have anything that will work. I did find a nice Kraeuter 3/8" drive ratchet at the Tahoe flea this morning.

Wow, that's a collection alright!

I have several I bought online, but the crazy thing is in all the sales I've been to in the past 14 years or so I have never seen a single one.
Except one that was behind glass NFS at a tool store.

What do you guys think am I due to run into one locally soon?

I have only ever seen one in the wild at an auction. I couldn't make it due to my daughter's birthday so I had my dad try to buy it. He got lost in the shuffle on the auction and missed it. Up here there is alot of Craftsman but you never see and stainless or these speeder ratchets.
