I found this Craftsman BE ratchet today. It is not Long-C, but is a push-through (missing the drive plug). It is in good shape, and works smoothly.

From the lettering and the push-through design it seems to be pre-1934. Is this right?...

No.... I don't ask "trick questions". Bonney, eh? Another brand about which I know less than nothing.
It's a model I have not seen before.
Thanks!

Found this Crescent CS70 ratchet today. 1/2 drive.
Appears to be made by Wright, has a 1962 Wright date code.
Been looking for the Wright version for a while, guess I will take Crescent :dunno:
Edit: Stone patent ratchet, filed by Wright Tool in 1950, granted 1955.

Here's s Wright version I just picked up. It must have been someone's go-to 1/2" drive for a few decades as it is fairly worn and broken in....

I'd agree with Ed's assessment. I don't have my notes in front of me, but that range seems to be on point going from memory. Unfortunately, I made errors back in the day, when it came to the dates of specific families of tools. Hopefully, I can get the train back on the rails again eventually. :p

Your ratchet existed in a really wonky period of Craftsman ratchets, where certain pieces either fall off the map or have almost phantom like reappearances after being taken out of the catalog for a year/season and are reinserted again.

Some have suspected that Sear Catalog illustrators became confused about what exactly was being offered/available the years just before WW2 and during. Honestly, I'm in that camp to a degree. Interestingly, there are pieces that literally show up one time, in one specific distribution region, and they DO exist. Ugh...:eek2:

Perhaps, had the War not be a part of the equation, there could have been pockets of items that could have been still available due to the logistics of the region. Things moved quite a bit slower back in those times; however, people were still "generally" aware of their inventory management.

I'm not really sure what in the heck was going on, but I guess that is what makes this fun! ^_^

I'm incredibly jealous of that ratchet OTG! +1 on tool loans to GW. I don't think he had mine for more than a week before it boomeranged back to me.

Sorry, BK. The ratchet is in the Bay Area and I can’t make out the number in the pictures770B7272-5326-411D-9368-014F50A9CC54.jpeg89323AED-AF1A-4CB3-8EA1-F1952BE7C0BF.jpeg01D8F0C7-DC3B-41B4-B349-CB39F70DE507.jpegD8970C9D-6044-4653-BACF-7E00AB51E5DA.jpeg. I’ll put it on my to do list.

That's the pepperdine patent, 1888885. I have those ratchets in several brands, hinsdale, bog, western giant, plomb... it does not relate to the dual drive in that version.20210802_152623.jpg20210802_152511.jpg

I can probably figure it out when I have time and patience. Not a big deal.
I wasn't even aware there was such a thing as a "chrome-x" ratchet.
I have an almost complete set of "Chrome-X" 1/2" drive 12-point SAE sockets, but no drive accessories, and all of the "Chrome-X" sets I've ever seen on Ebay (all of which were 1/2" drive, as I recall) had either a 3202 or 3202R (Indestro) ratchet in the kit, or (for the most part) were missing all of the drive accessories.

Very interesting find!

A vi-chrome 20210805_071703.jpg1/4" ratchet. Seems to be a cousin of this bonney.
Interesting find there! I thought that Vi-Chrome was a sideline brand of Herbrand.......I wonder if they hand anything to do with the Bonnet ratchet as well. Executing the raised, polished "Bonney Bubble" would be a big ask in contract production though. Maybe it's the other way around and Bonney made ratchets for Herbrand, and by extension, Vi-Chrome?

Hello all,

Wasn’t quite sure where to post these, but this thread seemed like a good bet.

My wife and I went out of town, and striving to be vigilant I happened to find these Craftsman Butterfly/Flying =V= Ratchets etc. near where we were staying.

The 1/2 drive set is missing the 13/16 & 3/4 sockets. The ratchet and breaker bar are in great shape. There’s a 6-in extension and two deep sockets, 3/4 and 13/16. Both ratchets have oilers.

The 3/8 set is missing the 1/2 socket. There’s a -G- 3” extension and a New Britain #4 Phillips, a Snap-On 7/16, and a =V= 13/16 spark plug socket.

The rest is a mix of Mastercraft and some metric that read only CR-Moly Steel. And a Husky USA 5/8 spark plug socket. There is also a weirdo Mastercraft socket light.

Thanks for looking.

Matthew
(Happily handed over $30)

I won a random flat of tools at a local auction recently and this 1/2" drive plug for a ratchet was in it. Any idea who the maker was? Only markings are Made in USA

That’s an odd one. While it has somewhat of a Williams look it, I’m pretty sure it isn’t US made. Old Belzer has some oldies of a similar nature. I’ve even seen old Bahco that resembled Williams. I can’t say for certain because I’m no expert in the many different old European brands, but I’m leaning towards something from over there.
