A while ago, a good motorcycling friend of mine gave me some leftover parts from builds he has done over the years. I have always thought that the BMW Speedos with the speedos in the bucket would make the coolest desk lamp. Well this isn't a bmw headlight and speedo, so the BMW purists can rest easy. It is a headlight from a mid-sixties Harley Sprint. It had a great patina when it was given to me. It just needed to be cleaned and clear coated.

This is how the headlight came to my possession. Luckily, the headlight switch was still operable after some cleaning. Really the most difficult part was figuring out how the switch operated and what wires and connections I would need to still use the headlight and power a 120VAC bulb.

The headlight bucket got a wash and light scrubbing with a scotch brite pad. Several coats of clear later and the 50+ year patina really popped. I am really quite pleased . with how it turned out. It sold really quickly to a gentleman in a motorcycle facebook group I am a part of. I will be making more for my etsy shop, so if you are interested head there. Trident Cycles Etsy

I have been making more lamps recently. Shamelessly I got the idea from Classified Moto, but I’ve got so many motorcycle parts laying around that it’s something to do with them and they are neat to give away to friends/family. Doesn’t feel right to try and sell them

Made a Star Wars helmet for a friends son. Used Freon tank, railroad spike, and sheetmetal strips. I will make a base or a lamp for it.

I picked-up a like new stainless steel medicine cabinet from the Habitat ReStore for $10 bucks......

I needed a place to put all my router bits in one place....So, I cut some MDF the size of the shelves and drilled 1/4" and 1/2" holes and voilà ....instant industrial looking router cabinet.

The "handle" is a stainless steel "robe" hook I also got at the ReStore for $2 bucks....
RPC1.jpg RPC2.jpg RPC3.jpg

Mounted it on the wall with my other steel cabinets and near the router table....

Here issome new ones:
1. Get a data rack shelf and hang it upside down on the wall so the arms that you bolt it to the wall are on the bottom and put your Radio sits on it.

2. An old data cabinet with the rollout slides can be made into a storage for small parts or nuts and bolts.

Bot these items can be bought cheap if you look for them.

This is a re-purposed baby bottle warmer I use as a hide glue warmer/melting pot...
You put water in the warmer and hide glue in the mason jar....
Picture 3444.jpg

It has a broad range of heat....hide glue is best when the temperature is 140° -145°F no higher than 150° (hence the use of the candy thermometer)
Picture 3446.jpg

I have also used the mini crock pots.....
Picture 3447.jpg

You can usually find these 2 items at thrift stores for a buck or two....

Here's another woodworking related re-purposed item in my shop.....
I call it my "Custom Deluxe Simulated Wood Grain Bench Top Carving Chisel Cabinet" (say that 3 times fast :eyecrazy:)
DSWGCC1.jpg

This was a few years back....I was in need of a storage solution for some recently acquired carving chisels (and some I already had) and I was planning on building a two tiered, lazy Susan turntable type holder like I’ve seen some carvers do....

Well, long story short….I was visiting my mother one day and she was in the process of cleaning out a closet.

There on the floor of the closet, in the corner, still in the box (unopened) sat this 3 drawer desktop organizer thingy, that she said she bought years ago but never got around to putting it together….I asked her if I could have it......

So….I assembled it (screws AND glue AND dowels) cut some rubberized shelf mat, and started filling it with chisels!......

First drawer....
DSWGCC2.jpg

Second drawer....
DSWGCC3.jpg

Third drawer.....
DSWGCC4.jpg

Here it is in the line-up in the old configuration.....
DSWGCC5.jpg

Here's the new current set-up.....(it moved very little for Ole Big Red).....

Tired of the bottles falling over when I use the little oxy/map torch, I looked around for an idea to keep them standing up. I had a shower caddy thing that I knew I'd find a use for in the shed.
A few snips with a diagonal cutter and the bottles fit great!

Picked up a cabinet for free from work. Was originally for drawings but we print whatever is needed now so the cabinet was going.
Dedicated one drawer to extra gaskets for the engine I race, another for transmission parts.
Couple of drawers left to fill, assuming I will find something to put in there.

I wanted a milk box that used to be on the stoop when I was a kid in Peekskill NY. I looked on Ebay and needle in a haystack there was actually one for sale. I bought that and got a plant stand that was broken for half price at Hobby Lobby. Put them together into a little mini bar thing.

I have a narrower version of that one. I cut the upper hoop off and screwed it to the wall above the sink in the shop. I use it hold scrubby things and the lower hooks to hang paint brushes on to dry.

Used up some of my misc. stuff on this one.
Made this for my son for Christmas.

The big pressure gauge came from the boiler of the grade school that my dad, myself and he attended.
It was torn down nearly 10 years ago.

No comment, an empty bottle, a battery powdered led light, as a lamp.

Does give a clue.

A clue to what, that I have found a clever way to repurpose junk? Yes. Otherwise the fact that you say "no comment" and then leave a comment is a bit weird. Or was your snarky comment some suggestion about me? I can't tell if it's a comment or not.

The led puts off just enough light in the hunting blind. I guess I could have used any bottle but I had the jack bottle lying around. My buddy collects the bottles. He must have hundreds of them.

A little project my brother and I did for our mom for Christmas. She has been talking about wanting one and I just happened to have a Singer base in the garage waiting for something to do with it. I know it's not original, but she was very excited to get it. It was a lot of fun to hang out with my brother as well doing this. It has been many moons since we did this type of stuff together.

My wife bought this light that we never used. Shortened it and installed plexiglass over the bulb.

Works great for welding and grinding body panels.

Ok, between Shootinok and erty67 you guys got me hooked on this small tank holder and I gotta steal the idea and make one. You're reminding me just how flimsy the original plastic holder is that came with my set and how I've hated it.
This is a great idea!
