So Bert has me excited about the florescent lights which he mentions could possibly be vintage and period correct if not the originals! Here are some more pictures of them. I did notice that they have old starters in them that I can still buy online cheap! Lights 1.jpg

Looks homemade from a couple semi modern (90's) strip lights

more of the old shop lights

Sort of modern looking maybe 80's

These two look older, 60's

Again looks sort of modern 70's-80's? decently made though

This is mostly guessing and judging from the style.
Anything that uses starters is from the 40's-50's.

I will know today about the water.

On a sour note I have been having some anxiety issues the past few days from a call I received Friday. A developer has offered me 5 times what I paid for the garage which is pretty significant $. I could take the $ and buy another old 1958 gas station not far from this one or I could buy 4000sf garage in a worse neighborhood. and still pocket alot of money. I hate this because the $ is good but the love I have for this 1942 garage history and stories this place has is great! Its tearing me up inside!

any good thoughts from afar?

That's a tough decision, hard not to consider the offer. What sort of issues does your current building have that will need attention in the near future? Would be tough to see the building gone though...

If they are serious about this development they will be willing to pay you more than that first offer.

Well not really anything except normal stuff like getting it sealed up etc. Getting insulated and prettied up but really that is it. I just added wireless security. was fixin to put up walls in the "cave" portion of the building. I sure hate this feeling but your right its hard to turn down good $.

We had an old barn up in Indianapolis that we recently sold. I saved this door from the horse stables. I installed it in the doorway you see straight ahead as you walk into the front cashier area. If you were to pass through the newly mounted door you would be looking out into the three garage bays!
I attached them through the concrete walls utilizing architectural stars to secure them to the block walls

I apologize for some reason these pictures always rotate one way to the side when after I post them. Anyone know what Im doing wrong? its very frustrating!

Just subscribed. My father started in the service station business in 1957 with Pure Oil in an old cement block building similar to this one. When the Union Oil Company of California purchased Pure, they demolished the old station, and built a new one in 1967. He still owns the building and has it rented out for a convenience store now. He too ran a small engine business from the service station, so this thread reminds me of my days as a kid.

I would love to have an old service station myself, but living in the Atlanta area, property values are going crazy, especially commercial. With that said, I'll have to find something more rural, which is the plan as this area keeps exploding with population and retirement is within the next 5-7 years.

Congrats on your purchase, and I'm looking forward to your restoration!

Is the investment company giving you enough money to get the other gas station with cash left over to play with? What does the '58 model look like? Plans can always change, especially this early in a project. Lots of factors to consider though. Current square feet vs newer building. Current acreage vs new. TAXES!!
Interesting how you were looking for one old station and now you have multiple offerings.
