Thank you everyone for the complements!

Wow, great build! Going to be an awesome open house party! :D I'll bring the popcorn.

Beautiful country too.....

Thanks Rodster.. We hope to host may get togethers here, The whole GJ crew will always be welcome!

So what area do you live in, I think you said but I forget, looks like you still have halfway decent weather...

I live in Central Mass.. It really turned when we got 6" of heavy wet snow right at Thanksgiving. The landscapers just couldn't work with all the mud and muck, now a week of rain with cold, and the ground just won't behave. Better to wait, then have issues down the road with bad sub grade.

Absolutely incredible undertaking!!! I too, fee so poor right now. lol

Well, being timber frame, hand built with full foundation and 200amp service all finished...:eyecrazy: .. I could have bought a couple of nice toys at Barrett Jackson, but then I'd have no place to park them all....LOL Trust me, I feel poor now too, Def went over budget but we figured go big or go home. Now we won't have to always work on our home, just enjoy it.

That's an amazing Barn Garage and I'm sure that you will really enjoy it.

Thank you for also adding the pictures from your addition. I am looking at adding an attached garage with another bedroom above to my 12 year old house and always looking for ideas.

Realized I haven't posted pix of the barn in a while, mainly because the house has been the focus lately trying to get it done. There have been a few updates done..

I hate when the concrete foundation shows a lot, and with the character of the barn being what it is, thought I had to do something about it. So a little stone veneer helped..

Tho there's not a lot showing, I think it really helped achieve what I was going for..

A Winter shot, just because..lol

Did do a little shopping a few weeks ago..

Boy do I LOVE the trolley and hoist!!

Got a few for the Motorcycle side too..

Heres a pic of the lift..

Did I say how much I love the hoist?!! :p Especially since I do everything myself.

Electrical is done until everything is in it's place, then I'll put 220 when I need it. Its nice going in and throwing a switch and lights work, plugs work etc.. Ended up adding a couple more lights to brighten the shadows. I'm really happy with the heat, I set it at 55, and when I want more, it's up to 65 in ten minutes or so. It's pretty tight considering it's a barn. I'll have them fill the tank in a couple of weeks to see how much it's using, but feel it's not extravagant.

Still don't have any straight benches yet, tho I picked up a sweet woodworking bench off CL, which I can't seem to find a picture of right now.. With the holidays, haven't spent as much time as I'ld like to get it all together, but hope to really focus over the next couple weeks.

Here's a few of the house, what we started with to now.
Just waiting for gutters and shutters going on this week. oh, a one door by the garage that came in the wrong size..

Love the stone work.

My wife picked out these star lights, theres' 2 on the barn porch, one on the 3 season , and this at the rear door by the outside shower. Very happy with them.

The 3 season porch off the side..

Extremely happy with the detail that was put into the whole project. It seem like it's taken forever, (just ask my wife..LOL:willy_nil), and it will be spring before it's all done but thrilled with the results so far.

Nice Job!
Funny how those little "OOPS! We need to install this" come along! Anyways, there is something about the beauty of Timber Framing that can't be beat by stick built.
Our house is a late 1800's Barn that still feels solid!

Thank you! Slowly picking away at the small stuff inside... We got crushed with almost 7' of snow the beginning of Febuary, so it's quiet right now. Everyone has promised to be back as soon as the ground thaws out to finish the outside. Tho wer're hoping the grand kids will still be a few years away, I can only hope that I'll be the cool grandpa...LOL!

That rock you put around the bottom of the shop building what kind is that?

It's actually a fake stone veneer. It's flat on the back, with corner pieces available too. The mason stuck it on with a mixture, then applied grout to give it the look of real stone. I'm very happy with the results.

This winter was another brutal one.. cold, then the first of February the snow hit!! Ended up with almost 7' in a week and a half, then a weekly storm for the next month. Boston broke the record with over 110", and our town was twice on the top of the snow list. Cold too, tho I know we weren't the only ones that got it rough this year. Its still below average almost everyday.. Not sure who pissed on mother nature, but you need to fess up and apologize...LOL!!

We still have about 2' left to melt, then the ground needs to thaw, then dry out.. I'm hoping they will be able to get back to work by the first of May the way things are going.

At least it gave me a chance to work in the barn. I was invited last year to be a feature article included in the next "Dream Garages" special edition, which pushed me to get the shops outfitted over the winter. Unfortunately the powers that be pulled the plug on it.. sad day, however it would have definitely taken me longer to put it together. At least now I can work in, and not on it. Between work, winter, and trying to find every minute I could to work on it, I didn't take any in between pictures. I do have some showing it now that I thought I'd post..

The 2 bay is my woodworking shop, tho most is on wheels, and I can quickly free up the left bay to get a vehicle in to work on it. Wood is something I've enjoyed working with, and I hope to get more proficient with someday. I need to learn to slow down, and hope this will teach me to live my second half of life at a more reasonable rate and enjoy it. I'm sure it will take quite some time before I make anything more than fancy firewood..:lol_hitti

I've got 2 boys 18 and 20 that did Cabinetry in tech school, both very talented, far beyond me right now.. I thought this might be a great place we can get together and hang out. They could use it to make start a small business if they wanted also.

I also got the motorcycle side together.. I'm not one to tear an engine apart, but I enjoy doing the maintenance on the bike and 4-wheelers. I'm not a fan of laying on the floor to do the oil changes anymore so I added a lift..

Not outrageous, but enough drawers for all I need. A couple benches to work on and some storage locker to hold the **** too. These are the new craftsman cabinets and bench, decent, but we all know where they are now..

I've actually owned the stacked boxes for almost 15 years now. The new cart feels cheap compared to them, which is kind of sad..

I added the condor chock to the lift, (Its a Greg Smith Equipment). The chock is the best, IMHO.. It will hold that 950lb bike with no problem. I use it in the 5th wheel camper too.

As you can see, I piped the air in from the back bay, its next to the DC vac for the wood shop. Its just an HF reel, but works great. I can reach out the door if needed to.

Nothing too fancy, but efficient I hope. Really fits my needs. I got a few ideas for drop down tables and a few other additions now that the wood shop is done.

Just saw this thread for the first time. The barn and the house remodel are incredible! Congratulations on that.

Thank you!! Its hard to believe, but we're still trying to finish the whole project. We've been finishing all the hardscaping in the pool area, and will be working on the landscaping in a week. I'll update when its all done. At least all the inside is done, so it's not quite as bad as it was for my wife...LOL!!

I'll bet it even smells good in there :) Incredible job :thumbup::thumbup:

HAHA!! That the first thing everyone says when they walk into the shop. Unfortunately I had rotator cuff surgery on my shoulder a month ago, and just getting out of the sling this week. I still have a lot of organizing to do, luckily there have been some great threads on GJ lately that have given me some ideas on how to tackle it all.. Thanks!!

One of my favorite shops and builds.

Excellent attention to detail and execution.

If you ever grow tired of manually operating the blast gates, check out the Ecogate Automated Blast Gate System. A nice addition to any woodworking shop.

Great thread and have enjoyed reading of your experiences during construction.

Ody.

I just finished looking through your thread and wanted to let you know, the shop and the house look great! Both the woodworking side/ the motorcycle side of the shop and the house. Great design and terrific attention to detail. I know that it's tough to stay the course after over a year, but you and your wife have done some great work.

It's been a busy summer here, but we finally got things wrapped up. As expected, they certainly were NOT done by Memorial day, and it was a struggle to be done by Labor day.. but we made it. The landscaping really came out great, we hired a a landscape designer to help figure out, and she had ideas that we never would have thought of. We ended up making changes, and additions along the way, as we have the whole process, but we absolutely love the results. It was over 2 years from first breaking ground until now, and I can honestly say it was worth it. My wife and I actually made it thru it still liking each other, but there were a few moments... LOL!!

The backyard got a total makeover, as some of my previous posts showed, we ripped everything but the pool out. New walls and pavers first..

New raised aggregate around the pool to reduce slippage. The old stamped concrete was a real hazard when wet.

Then winter hit, and all worked stopped for almost 6 months.. but finally they all showed back up, and away we went!! They started with the upper area, getting the walls, fire pit and pavers down.

We were just going to have an upper sitting area, but we had an idea.. hmm here we go again.. to have an open pavilion, roofed structure over it. Which ended up taking weeks longer, and more money than we hoped.. but in the end it really will end up being a focal point back there.

Then they moved to the front walk, which had to get ripped out for the new walkway and wall.
