As previous pic have shown, there was an over grown island in the middle of the front yard, which we really went sure what to do with. Deb, the landscape designer, really help vision a totally new look and we trusted her, big time. So out comes everything, and the front yard is just a disaster, as my wife called it..lol

But there is a PLAN.. we hope..

Mean while there still work in the back yard going on. Had a problem with the fire pit, they finished, and we realized the top didn't have equal overhang on all sides..wtf? Ended up the paving crew didn't leave the circle perfectly round, and a different Company that did the real stone work, didn't say anything and just built it anyway..

They actually had to come back and tear it all down and do it over again.. stupidity seemed to rule some days.. We also had a corner we weren't sure what to do with, but the 11 year old came up with a koi pond idea. We were skeptical at first, but it's one of our favorites now.

another screw up.. care to guess?

Might not seem little a big thing to some, but after I had told them a few times what we wanted, they did it wrong anyway. And my wife rarely misses a detail, so I addressed before she could even say something.

We really tried to be on top of everything everyday. As everyone here can attest to, if it can go wrong, it will. We didn't want to look back and see little details missed, or done wrong, and luckily we can say there are only one or two in the whole project we regret.

Meanwhile in comes, I don't know how many loads of loam. More than originally figured, of course..

Along with enough plants to put me at the top of the local garden centers favorite list.. then they start planting, and planting.

We also added irrigation to the yard. I must say I was worried since we're on a well, and I poured a LOT of water in it all the past couple of months, but everything has been fine.

Holy ****.

Haha holy **** from here too. Great job all around!!! The barn..........wow!!! The house.........wow! Looks incredible. Don't think I could go through what y'all have been going through and kept my sanity. Amazing piece of property you have yourself there.

I was going through the thread, saw the Grizzly boxes and thought I wonder whats in there? Then.....boom!! Looks amazing. You sure you are going to be able to get that place dirty? Haha Keep it up!!!!

Didn't you say this started from the barn and the wife was getting a bigger closet or did I just make that up?

We were really cooking with oil now, and trying to get things wrapped up. I added some raised beds by the barn..

We were going to hydro seed, by we didn't want to wait months, and not like the results, so we ended up with sod.. 15K square feet of it..

Got to love the instant gratification there!! Thats why I was worried about the well. There are 16 zones, with 4-5 heads going at a time pouring out 3 gallons a minute each!

Thanks!! I'll have to post a couple pics of the shop now.. total chaos has reined in there..LOL!!! Between some projects, and trying to consolidate a 10x20 storage unit all back here, I've have little space to move in there some days..

Yeah.. this started with the best intention of a metal carport for the camper, and a walk in closet for the wife... :dunno: lol

I'd like to thank everyone here for all the ideas, and complements that kept us going on this project. We have the home of our dreams now, and its where our families love to come together.

Welp that settles it. I know we don't know each other, but me and the wife and the kid are coming to visit. Looks like a nice place for the whole family to be together/play.

 Truly an unbelievable space you have created. The landscape flows so nicely to different focal points and gathering areas.

Thank you for the complements!!

We're very lucky to have been able to do all we did. We went WAY WAY WAY over budget.. It wasn't bottomless, and we hit it hard, but thats ok. We'll tighten up for the last 10 years of our careers and good Lord willing, we'll be alright. It was a choice we made to make the home of our dreams, and we will enjoy every minute it!

We went in with an idea, and we were lucky to find (for the most part) good people.. contractors and designers who listened, and were willing to make the changes and do the quality job we expected for our dollar. I couldn't have ever been able to match the job they did, never mind how much time it would have taken me, to do a quarter of what they did.

Now we can enjoy it, our families have already decided we are going to host ALL the get togethers.. and that was our hope! And I've got lots of ideas and projects I want to tackle in the shop with my 3 boys. There are so many talented people with immense skills shown on this site which have been an inspiration to me, and I hope to try my hand at a lot of them. I know I'll fail at some, but The Fun is trying something new, and hopefully learning a little bit along the way.

BaMaDude, you and the whole GJ community are ALWAYS welcome here!!:rocker::rocker:

I first came across this thread yesterday when you were posting some of the completed yard pics looking toward the barn & house...and I was overcome with a sense of... THEN I decided it would be in my best interest to go back & start on page one.

Not only is it amazing what a transformation has happened to your house & yard, but the BARN! Wow, what a cool building!
Thanks so much for sharing the whole ordeal with us here at GJ, this has been so inspiring to see. And you were right to trust the landscape lady, she sure had a vision!
It's kind of odd how nobody made a peep to your initial post in this thread...maybe it was just an off day for us here, that day.:spit:

I've been sharing your build with my dad since you started as he is building a house here in FL. I hope you don't mind if I convince him to copy your ideas for the RV Garage!

I can only echo wow. I have read this whole thread over the last couple of days and I am in awe of your and your good wife's patience, persistence and eye for detail.

If we ever get over your way in the future from downunder I would love to call in for a visit and see it in person. I have sent you a pm.

Amazing!!! Can only add how wonderful it all came out. Your builder did some fine work. And your landscape architect should receive an award! I came for the barn, (which is still my favorite feature) didn't know I was going to get a total house also! Thanks for sharing!

i showed my wife your barn and said "honey, here's the benchmark."

she doesn't understand the red w/white trim as traditional barn color. "i think it should match the color of the house instead," she says.

gonna have to work on that one....

As other have said, - Amazing build...love it

Was curious if you could post a few more pics of your beloved hoist.....after i finish phase 2 of my build, I am going to be installing my hoist....i have everything purchased except the i-beam....just am curious how yours is implemented (any pics would be greatly appreciated)

You and your wife's attention to detail is top notch...earlier you mentioned regrets, what would you have done differently ?

- i agree with your philosophy - you and your families and can enjoy it for gatherings for years to come - well done sir!!!

CT... I have to laugh, my wife and I had the exact same discussion.. A few times! LOL!! I grew up on a farm and my Dad painted the house red, the silo white and the barn blue to honor our Country, but this is New England, and to me a barn red with white trim is a tradition I couldn't break. Building a timber frame barn, that I hope will be used and cherished for generations was a labor of love. I still just go and stand in it and look around with a foolish smile on my face..

Wow, what an incredible remodel! What a great rec-room addition above the garage, keeping the multiple levels an open concept!
