I bought those at an auction for something dumb like $75 for both with all attachments. I have some older equipment that is harder to find drums for and some of my big trucks are disc, so I thought it would be worth it to have them. They will take a crazy sized drum, stuff you would see in big front end loaders. We will see, they are a PITA to move right now, but they are in the new conex and out of the way. Plan was to have then under a roof, but "outside" (think lean to) so when you need them, you use them, then they stay covered. I can also make a small base that can be grabbed with the forklift easily, then they would be stored on the pallet racking.
It is windy and cold, with temps dropping quickly, had to empty the diesel fuel from the first tank into the heating oil tank, brrrr.
I am looking over the chassis and trying to figure out how I will approach getting one of them galvanized, looks like the front crossmember is all welded and most of the rest are riveted (a couple are bolted), you can't remove all the rear ones without making the frame too flimsy, looks like I could take some threaded rod through holes that will be used to put the frame together, nuts on both the inside and outside of the rails, that would keep it from spreading or collapsing and hardly mess with the galvanizing process.
I have never removed torsion bars before, some say use the special tool only, some say use a 2 jaw puller, others say dismantle the front end and let everything droop. We will see how it goes, a bit nervous, but seems like the 2 jaw puller should work well enough. The only issue is, I may have to soak the parts overnight to get things to release, or I heat everything with the smoke wrench.
