I am being dumb, I need to get Perk ready to go for tomorrow anyways, leaving around 7 AM, I want to be able to roll out without thinking about it in the morning. I need to get diesel fuel too, will be curious to see how much it takes to fill up and what I got for mileage on the last trip, it was all highway driving, no crane time.

I don’t have time to do anything else other than get ready for tomorrow. I was all set to do something else and it would have screwed things up. The owner of Tru-Hitch called and said that I may not be able to pick it up tomorrow, he said they are working on the wireless remote, it is sticking and he won’t let it leave without operating perfectly. He said they put new batteries in it, and changed the hydraulic fluid, he said he would either put new decals on it or give me a new set. Very thorough for sure, I just hope they get it figured out so I can pick it tomorrow, otherwise it screws my schedule up.

Scale place called back, should be about $200 to get them calibrated and checked over, based on the controller he says it is a brand that he is a distributor for. Going to drop them off Monday.

Tomorrow is a go for the Tru-Hitch, just got the fifth wheel moved to the proper location, freaking PITA. Normally there is an air cylinder that pushes the locks out, then there are springs that return it to the lock position when you release the air. My air cylinder is leaking and doesn’t do anything. Couldn’t get one today, so I had to either remove it, then move the hitch, then reinstall it, then next week remove it again to find the proper one, then install the new one. I decided to remove it and make a temporary locking setup, I got to use tower parts! Anyways, it is perfect for now, could be good forever, bet the mean old DOT guys would hate it.

The air cylinder went between the two locks, basically pulling them together with the force of the two springs.

Had to do a quick modification to the eye end, but it works perfectly, nice use of tower hardware, at least I thought so.

The only thing I didn’t do tonight was fill the fuel tank, I am just leaving a little earlier and will get diesel on my way out.

Perk got 7.5 MPG again, that was 327 miles, half miles bobtail, half miles empty trailer. I am off to get the Tru-Hitch. :)

Spent about 5 hours with the owner of Tru-Hitch, we test fit, loaded, lifted, it was great. Perk was idling almost the entire time, still got 8.2 MPG, headed home now, another 4 hours of driving.

The guy said that it is actually just a big hydraulic pry bar and it has tons of uses. He said it can be used as a big forklift, they make trailers that it attaches to, he said it can pick up an end of a conex with ease. I really want to make a trailer that works with it now.

Nice score. The seller sounds like a great guy. Looking forward to seeing more pics of that thing in action. Never heard of one before, can see how handy it would be for all kinds of things.

Whoa! I can see you dragging all kinds of stuff home with that :rocker:
Better clear and flatten about 5 ac. (to start) at the hill:lol:
Where's the pivot point when towing? Still at the 5th wheel?
Got a picture of it collapsed or stored?
Check another box for another use for the "swiss army Perk"

It makes the truck being towed into a fifth wheel trailer, so yes, it pivots normally, not like a stupid tow truck. Also distributes weight properly. I will get a picture of it all folded today.

I am off to help a friend move a kiddie pool (10’ diameter stock tank) WTF????

This is what it looks like stowed, the fifth wheel is moved all the way forward, when towing it needs to be move to the back otherwise there are clearance issues.

3a7bf50779b23c847579d1b1075c82fb.jpg

It rests on the fifth wheel and these fold up legs, when towing they are up out of the way.

Clearance when stowed is not an issue as nothing pivots until you are unfolded.

You put a chain on, then run the mast out a little to tighten them, this keeps everything stable during transport.

We found out that it hits the boom when the fifth wheel is all the way back.

Luckily it pushed the hydraulic line up, rather than cherishing it.

Kiddie pool, seriously. She ordered it in May, it showed up in September, but they never picked it up. Asked me to help, it was a pain, luckily I am a good friend. ;)

So that's the reason for the very long "fork" length, you chain up to about 10' of the towed vehicles frame. Cool addition to the truck. Is unmounting it a big job? Looks like electric over hyd and I counted 5 valves. What else moves besides the 2 obvious pairs of cylinders?

The two sets of cylinders control multiple functions depending on the position of some pins and where the mast is. The long fork like things actually extend hydraulically an additional 8’, so you can reach almost 20’ under a truck. Once I get situated, I will do some more pictures and videos of it in operation. As for unloading it, it is a simple thing to do, the forks are used as counterweight and it will sit there like a trailer. Then you can fold it up, it will completely pack itself to ship, essentially upside down or the reverse of the way it looks on the truck. It is truly an interesting piece of equipment. Even the battery box swivels so the batteries stay upright, the hydraulic tank has an upper and lower breather that you open or close depending on the position of the unit. Everything was very well thought out, these have a 30 year military life and very few issues.

The five functions are one for the two large rams, one for the two smaller rams, one for each extension, one for the winch mounted in the cradle at the bottom of the forks.

The radio remote works well and I am so glad that I bought this one and not the old manual one without the winch.

It does have one leaky ram, guy is sending me new decals and the seal kit for the ram.

It does need a new tool box, the one on it is a bit too small.

Later this afternoon we are going to try and get a truck, I will try and come up with more pictures and maybe some video too.

Technically it is my truck, he gave me a couple weeks to pay for it since I am pulling the engine for him.

Unfortunately we didn’t get started until after dark, that was the first mistake, second mistake was not checking over everything myself, worst mistake was not tying up the steering wheel. We thought we were good, took off, first turn, truck wheels turned, truck shifted, this made me into a crab walk situation with the towed truck crooked to Perk. Had to pull into a parking lot and undo everything we did and redo it again. Second time was much better, definitely need to do this more often and figure out all the ins and outs of things. Made it back to the bottom of the Hill, need to shuffle trucks and trailers up top before I can bring it up top.

Only picture I got, I need to move the next truck in the daylight.
