Tall people running boards, it is a really tall truck to get into. Getting ready to chain it down.

Pines, the first step is about at knee level.

ahhh yea... I would need a step ladder if that bottom one wasn't there. I have seen steps on the side of trucks obviously before but never duel running boards the same depth away from the frame... interesting... That truck has a very similar makeup to our Forest/Wildlife forest fire trucks... I have to take a ride and see if they have those running boards.

That truck is awesome. I'd love to find one similar to turn into a roll off car hauler.

Thanks, it would make a decent roll back, except for the turning radius. A normal three point turn ends up being a 20 point turn. The front axle has very limited steering. I can't wait to swap in the new axles, it should make things a lot better. I am sure this will be a long turn project, but it will be a fun one. I have had a couple requests to start a dedicated thread for it, probably will do that. I am going to try and find some of the old photos of the truck before we had it painted. So far it looks like the body is in decent shape, the rear frame is probably the worst part of the truck, but not terrible.

I am digging this truck.... the first image that popped into my head was that it would make an awesome welding rig....

Thanks Dan, glad to see you around.

Duker, I am planning on heavily modifying things, I want it to be more like a heavy duty comfortable rig that I can use to haul trailers or things. Most likely it will end up with a custom bed and have the ability to haul a gooseneck trailer. The rack is going away and the rear body has seen much better days. I think the wheelbase might get shortened up a bit too. Planning stages so far, so everything is subject to change, except the cummins swap.

That is definitely a cool truck with lots of possibilities. Should be a good project. Will you be stripping off all the over the cab platform structure? Maybe clean up the side steps by replacing the double steps with one that extends out and down for entry/exit but pulls up and hides a bit for driving.

Neat truck, I like it.

You could make that a party truck, leave the platform for dancers wearing mini skirts and nothing on under, great view I tell ya.

Look forward to seeing the build

The rack/mesh over the cab will be removed, it won’t fit in my shop as is, so the bed and lift gate are going too. The truck is just too long for my taste. I need to figure out if the transfer case is staying put or if I need to move it back. I guess first order of business is to dig out the donor truck and remove the good bits.

I like it now that i can see it out in the daylight. I'd leave the Tcase where it is and save modding 2 of 3 driveshafts.

That liftgate might be handy to keep. The rack seems useful, but I agree it should go. You have other things for that. The Cummins is probably a good upgrade for it too. I don't want to see the wheelbase shortened, the ride quality will suffer. I think if you swap the axles first and get a better steering radius, you may reconsider shortening it.

Not sure I ever shared this with you... I had it pop up in my wallpaper... I made it about a year ago.

Pines, that looks like me in the morning!

The wheelbase is just too long, I want something more like a pickup truck, not a school bus. As for the lift gate, it is some weird old unit that never works properly and it runs off a PTO and I am not interested in that for a lift gate. I got another toy today, got to unload it with the knuckle boom truck, I am really starting to like the knuckle boom. The J5 has a stuck motor, but it was stored inside and we drove it there two years ago, so I don't think it will be hard to get unstuck, in fact I may have already done it, but I did not have a key to try the ignition. Will get a key for tomorrow and if it stops raining I will mess with it a bit more.

Strouty you two very cool projects right there with the truck and the “Pines approved” mini tank!

Mini tank is actually a bombardier J5 sidewalk plow, we bought it years ago and rebuilt it. It was used for our remote access towers in the winter. I plan on using it for fun and work if needed.

My Father wanted me to take more stuff, but I am passing on lots of things. I am picking up a Lincoln TIG welder tomorrow, other than that, it is all boring stuff.

I will post some when I get it back to the shop. Yesterday we cleaned out the attic of the house, looks ten times better, but still looks bad. We are still shooting for a November 15 closing, so at that point I will really start to clean things up. Right now I figure I am just helping an older lady out, I need to rationalize it somehow.

I changed the oil in Clark, the drain plug is centered on the front driveshaft, nothing like wearing a bunch of hot oil, even got to taste it. The oil was so thin, when it hit the shaft it went out about two feet on both sides, so it missed the oil pan by about 10" on each side. I caught some of it with my shirt, so that helped make the cleanup quicker.

After dark, I tested the LED lights and they are nice and bright, so I will be using them, probably going to order more as I want everything illuminated around Clark while working in the dark.

The worst part was I had a larger oil pan, had I used it, I would have avoided all the mess.

Here is what the attic looked like after doing a cleanup.

It is raining pretty good so I am going to look for any leaks, it looks like there was a leak at one point, but the roofing was replaced not too long ago.

Nice, a fridge in the attic, that should be fun removing it.... If they leave all that stuff, might just cut a big hole in the gable and toss it all out that into a truck or dumpster.

We are planning on adding a really big window to the gable ends, so yes, have chainsaw will toss fridge!

Had to go pick up some more junk from my Dad's place, got four more military tires and a bunch of spare parts for the mini tank, then I took some **** that will get trashed, but I am being reimbursed for that, so no worries. Tomorrow we are tearing into the Volvo wagon, hope to have that all pulled apart and ready to go to the salvage yard early next week. I need to get the Mitsu sorted so the blade can be removed, the rams are leaking like a runny nose and the bottom edge looks like someone tried to use a can opener on it. For right now I will just remove it and plug off the lines, that way it is ready to go for the trash at the house and anything else it is needed for. Lots to do, so little time......... :(

Tomorrow is that stupid time change, I hate this time of year. Counting down the days until winter solstice!

Should have the Volvo wagon stripped and ready for scrap, one less thing to plow around.
