Bummer your Thanksgiving was a let down Strout. We hosted this year and my son's oldest best friend's family of five came over too so we had planned on 14. My sister got sick so we ended up with 11. I cooked a 20lb bird. And only my dad and I like the cranberry jelly sauce, so the two cans I bought had us covered. :) We sat down to dinner at 3:30. Around 5pm we had desert. Unfortunately my dad accidentally swapped the gluten free pumpkin pie with the regular pie, so I ended up eating the regular pie. By 8:30 I was sick and puking my guts out. My wife was pissed, but I laughed and said that way I only absorbed half the calories I consumed. I was down for the count on Friday though.

We dodged the snow that hit St. Louis, Chicago, and MichIana last Sunday.

Good job on Clark.

I can tell you don't have kids... especially boys. We have Ikea furniture because it's inexpensive. My son can break anything. No point in buying nice, expensive furniture when it's just going to get broken. Sure, the more expensive stuff will last a little longer, but it will still break. And our Poang chairs have actually held up really well, even though one sags to the right, they haven't broken yet. Impressive for a $150 chair. And my new desk for my "home office" is from IKEA. We needed a very small footprint desk to fit in the corner of our DR. It has some really nice features for wire routing and my scanner/printer/laptop dock fit on it perfectly.

Half the calories, now that is a glass half full approach!

As for IKEA, the only thing their that I would buy is the kivik couch. I like to make most things, kind of like your last project. I am not a great woodworker, but I hate MDF/Particle board, unless I am building speakers or now I guess using MDF under something clamped in the mill as a sacrificial hold down.

I am a boy, I break things all the time, that is why I like to buy things that last. We also move furniture a lot and you only get one or two moves out of particle board stuff, then the joints loosen up and the next time it is all over.

Shorty, I think the way I would approach the kitchen would be the Lista drawers would be for the heavy lower cabinets and in the pantry area, I don’t think I would enjoy opening a huge drawer daily to get out a spoon, I will play around with them, they do have the shallower drawers, so maybe I could make it work.

At a tower today, but I am stuck on the ground, stinks because it is almost 50 degrees and I would like to be up there. Maybe tomorrow.

The kid I have helping would have no clue what to do on the ground, plus he is getting experience on the tower. I should be on the tower tomorrow, we have plenty of help. I will make sure to bring my phone up, so I can get some boot pictures for sure.

You do climb. I have to wait until 9 AM for the radio stations to shut down, then we are safe to go to the top. It is about 30 degrees right now and the wind is blowing about 15 to 20, supposed to get windier as the day goes on. Not going to be fun, but I have to get the antenna down and I have the crew and weather (minus the wind and it would be nice).

More like a forced shut down so we don’t get fried, they hate turning off almost as much as we hate getting fried. Worst pic ever, but I am not going to go back for a retake. Must have been a steady 35 MPH wind, with 40 plus gusts. Got the damn antenna on the ground and in one piece too.

Today was really cold, so when you dress for cold, you overheat quickly, I tend to stop frequently to cool off. My coveralls have zippers on the sides and my jacket has under arm zippers, I keep those open during the climb to help regulate things. Once I get to the top and feel cold, I zip things up. It took me about 45 minutes to get up there without roasting my rear off. Once you get sweaty, you get cold really quick, lots of layers, with moisture wicking fabrics. That picture was hard to take, my fingers didn't want to make the touchscreen work and the wind was howling, I should have taken a video, just for the sounds. We were working 10 to 15 feet apart and had to use radios to communicate, you couldn't hear anything unless you were directly across from the other person. I normally would have called the job off, but I had to get this done, I had the crew, and the stations were scheduled for shut down. It is over, the customer is happy, and I can bill the job out.

Yup, the wind added a hundred pounds or more to the feel of the rope, basically fighting the guy on the ground, while he is trying to keep it from getting into the trees.

Yesterday was a much needed office day, today I am at another site, stuck on the ground again. It is brutal being in the shade and not having much of anything to do. My feet are going to freeze.

First thing this morning, I did get to take out more trash at the house, the lady got the last of her stuff out and we should have things finalized before Christmas, waiting on the insurance agent right now. I will have the basement all cleaned out next week, as soon as everything is signed, I am going to start building the wood shop in the basement. That should allow me to sell off the office trailer and use that money for the house too. I like getting yard space back and money at the same time!

Family business originally, then I went out on my own when I was 19, now I manage things for my Dad plus do my stuff too. I don’t feel young anymore, I do feel fat, but that is all my fault. You would never know it by looking at me, but I weigh 300 pounds and once I put on my climbing belt and load it with tools I weigh 350 pretty easily. My muscles want me to weigh about 250 and it shows. When you don’t look too out of proportion, it is easy to think you don’t need to lose weight, I can openly say, I need to lose weight. It is kind of fun when I go to a doctor with a manual scale and the nurse starts the scale at 200, then 250, then 300, I kind of giggle, the digital scales are no fun. I think this house will be a big part of my weight loss, I am keeping much more active than I ever have and I know the house will keep me busy too. The other aspect is I will have space for some gym equipment for the first time in 25 years, I hate going to the gym, but love to use the equipment, this will be a great thing for my GF too, she currently has to take over the kitchen to do her exercises as there is no other room in our 900 square foot house that has as much clear floor space.

I have a desk job now, so I've put on a bunch of weight. But I think the fact that I rarely come home and sit longer than it takes to eat dinner has kept me from gaining more. So now I have to ask, just how tall are you?

I don’t do drugs, I hardly drink, but food is my enemy. I know that has to change and it is going to be the hardest part for me.

I like food too... I've been working on losing some weight... Currently down to 203 from about 230 plus...

I found the following to work: drink lots of water, eat slowly, aim to eat a few less bites than you typically would eat....

Probably the biggest thing is to watch your sugar intake.
I.e. soda, etc. That was part of my issue, but I've been able to slow that down... Maybe only one soda per week, instead of one per day...

YMMV, but the above has worked for me....

Makes it easier to work in the garage.... Keep on climbing!

I am not a huge soda fan, but I will drink one from time to time. I average less than 5 a month. I know I eat way too fast, I always feel like I am in a rush, so by the time I realize I am full, I am actually stuffed. I drink lots of water, and that helps, but I am light on aerobic activity.

Losing weight is one of the toughest "addictions" to kick. You can completely stop doing drugs, drinking, or smoking. and only good things happen. You can't completely stop eating. But as tough as you come across in these pages, I'm sure once you set your mind to it, you nail it.

Thanks Rick, my weight is deceiving and that is what makes it tough for me, I think if I saw myself as way too big, I would be more proactive about things. In reality I am “way too big” and I need to be doing something about it. I have a lot of stresses in my life and they contributed my weight as well, sometimes I think I may be trying to eat myself to death, like some weird punishment, many things in my life feel like they are my fault, letting go is pretty hard too. Things have been getting better and I am working through a lot of my issues, it just takes time to untangle a serious mess.

I didn’t go through all the replies but I doubt this has been mentioned. NSNG. It is a trademarked term by a great man who spent years training and keeping the hollywood elite in proper form. It stands for No sugar(or artificial sweeteners) No Grains. He pushes real food over processed food and it works fantastic. Also real oils and not seed oil processed garbage. So lard, tallow, olive, coconut oil, butter and real food. If you do have to eat on the run don’t use ketchup, preferably not mayo, and throw the burger bun away and no fries. It works fantastic. I was also over 300 at 6’ and lost 26 pounds in 28 days eating bacon and eggs, steak, lots of chicken thighs and cruciferous vegetables.

Insulin is the key. If you have insulin in your system you are in fat storage mode, no insulin and you are in fat burn mode. Fat doesn’t get an insulin response, carbohydrates do and if, as I suspect, you are insulin resistant you will have chronically high insulin which leads to diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and a host of other issues.

Since you hate the gym save the space and money for what you want. Diet is 90% of the key and insulin response is 100% of that 90%.

A book that changed my life is The Obesity Code by Dr Jason Fung. Get it.

Lies My Dr Told Me by Dr Ken Berry is also good.

Vinnie Tortorich is the trainers name.

Youtube has some great vids by Ivor Cummins, Jason Fung, Butter Bob, Robert Lustig.

My daughter’s health scare started me down this rabbit hole and it is scary the stuff I have discovered and found out that big food and big pharma are doing.

If you or anyone wants more info feel free to message me. I typed this on my phone so please excuse and mistakes or structure.

I will have some research to do, thanks sureshot.

Tower work today, yesterday was a waste, I think I overdid the week again. I did land another job, one that should be kind of fun. A local TV station has a small warehouse that they want cleaned out, I gave them a price that was pretty low, but it will be subsidized with the scrap, there is a lot of copper, also some cool old tidbits from some towers. I need to have everything cleaned up by the end of April, so it is a filler job, in theory I can be working on things inside during bad weather, or if it is too cold and windy outside. I can also work weekends, I anticipate it taking a good solid week, but I am probably doing 90% by myself, so the labor costs will be down, most of the trash is actually wood and some is usable still, the rest will get burned with all the wood from the house. I have to check with the scrap yard on what I need to do to get the best price for the copper, there are lengths of tube about 20’ long.
