On another note, Dad has decided that because all the videos and books are based on the windows versions of the CAD software, it makes more sense to buy a windows laptop. So now I have to buy one, otherwise there will be issues down the road that I won’t be able to solve and he will end up getting himself into trouble that will in turn make my life a pain.
I guess I need some suggestions on what to look for when buying a windows computer specifically for CAD, I will most likely use the 3D version of the program he is using, Dragtsight. The big thing I am not sure about is the video card and the ram, do you need a really high end card? Do you need more than 16GB of ram? Also I have $650 in Best Buy gift cards, so I would prefer to buy through them just to use that up. I have seen laptops from $500 to $4,000, the biggest jump in prices seems to be when you go to 32 GB of ram and get a “gaming ready” video card. I am not opposed to spend a decent amount, actually like the Microsoft surface laptops with the pen (that you buy separately), one of those fairly loaded is $2500ish, I can swallow that, but there are several other touchscreen options and I would like to have a touchscreen 2 in 1 style anyways.
