I thought you you said that you might have to take the mast off, but apparently not. Made that easier to get.

Though you are switching that out, correct?

That is the other forklift, it will need the mast removed for sure, this one was supposed to be close, but it turned out under legal limits by a few inches.

Of course the brakes stick when you use them hard and they got used hard loading. I knew this and that was part of the reason I got it for a good price. So before it goes into service it needs two batteries, new tires, brakes fixed, and both tilt cylinders rebuilt. After that it should be usable, but the main cylinder is going to need to be rebuilt at some point as well. I just want to get it functional and use it for a while before dealing with that.

Also, remember “no forklift November”? We may have to adjust that a bit, I am thinking “two forklift November”.

The tilt cylinder that doesn’t work at all on the BFF actually has a slightly bent rod, that will add a little extra cost to the repair, :(

It is funny how when you go and look at something you don’t see the little important things u til after you own it. Murphy in action?

Then I am not even sure how this cover piece made it back, all the bolts were either missing or broken off, I never even noticed it. Glad it didn’t come off, that would have been bad for sure.

I wonder if the piston locknut has come loose, maybe bending the end a little. Straighten the rod end and a new locknut might be all it needs. plus new o-rings, backup rings and a seal.

We have a decent place that can rebuild just about anything, they shouldn't have an issue making a new rod. Lucky for me it is a short ram, so it won't be crazy expensive. I had the rams for the Mitsu rebuild, the ones for the blade, they needed new rods due to damaged chrome and they were about $1200 all in for new rods and seals. This one is a larger diameter and everything is more expensive, but I still think I won't be one $2k for both, I may be unpleasantly surprised, but I hope not. If I can be into the thing for a few days work and $15k I will be happy as can be, this size machine is usually either worn out to the point it is scrap or it is priced out of my league. I have less than $10k into it including fuel and tolls to go get it. I think the three rams can be rebuilt for less than $5k, how much less remains to be seen. I do not think there will be much involved in the brakes, should be fairly common truck parts, except the drums, but I can turn those if needed on my brake lathe.

I think once I have the BFF up and running with some 12’ forks it will do what I need it to do. About the only thing that would be nice is to have a wider fork carriage. Until I really get to use it, there won’t be any upgrades, I just need to fix the issues and get it back to fully functional. I think I have purchased over 100k pounds of forklifts in the last month or so.

BFF 35k
Hyster P60 15k
Hyster H130 18k
Electric scrap machine 21k

That is 89k right there, doesn’t include the ones I haven’t picked up yet.

Hyster H130 tall mast 19k
Hyster rough terrain 15k

I guess you could even count the Clark 2 that is parts, that was another 15k

With all my forklifts I am easily over 200k pounds. I can’t keep them all at one location, don’t want to tip anything over.

Forklift capacity is so deceiving, while the BFF is rated at 28k, that is at 24" center on the forks, so if I want to pick an entire truck that weighs 15k, I am probably closing in on the capacity, might even be overloaded depending on the truck. I keep getting the ability to move heavier and heavier things, all this is practice for some random unknown future. Just enjoy the ride and roll with it...

Just kidding. I am headed out to do some errands, then to the Salvage Garage to do a bit of "reflecting", I have to figure out what is going where and what needs to be accessible for the winter projects. I think I can make a dent in things in the next week or so, I have to balance everything with the Hill, going to start the scrap process there as well. At least I get to start with the hardest things first...

One loader will have forks for sure and it will pick up a substantial amount, probably close to 10k, but it is not a forklift. They are both going to have a purpose. The BFF will pickup one of the payloaders, in theory anyways, I will be curious to see what I can and can't pick up with the BFF.

Remember, you can always plug another forklift into the back of the bigger one, to get yourself some more ballast.
