Nice clear, cold, morning, I don’t like it one bit. The finger I sprained is complaining louder than expected and last night at 9 PM Dad tells me I have to move things in the Quonset hut so he can get the wood chipper out, the same wood chipper I told him not to tuck way off to the side because we would need it before the boats, no one listens to me. So now I have to prep for the electricians and get his wood chipper out, seems like fun. :(

First cold day in awhile but it is January so I guess we have to deal with it. Wasn’t any frost in ground on Saturday, I imagine it’s hard this morning.

Had to use a shovel to get the overhead door started, it is so out of adjustment that I broke the handle completely off trying to open it up. Once it is started, it opens fine, but it is near impossible to get it up the first couple inches, even when you push the upper part inward to follow the track. I keep saying I have to fix it, guess I will have to do something sooner rather than later. To make it worse, I tweaked my back trying to get the door started, great way to start off the day!

Nope, this is the house, the roof and ceiling follow a compound angle for drainage, so the tracks are very weird, plus it is too tight to the ceiling the way it is setup. I am sure someone could figure it out, but I have done several adjustments with no change, you always have to push the top in, just never had it stick like this before. I hadn’t thought much about the springs, they have never worked properly.

Electrical is just about back to where we were this morning, except now we have a nice 200 amp main running a crappy old sub panel for now. As I figure out where the circuits are going, I will run new wire from the new panel. I didn’t want to get too deep into things until the deal for the Hill is done, have another meeting with the Lawyer Friday, that is one topic.

We are currently working on the on demand water heaters, first one is wired up, but I will have to do some plumbing. Second one we are trying to find a decent location to run the wire now. Of course we ran 10/3 wire and the water heaters don’t have four wires, oh well, the wire is there if we need to upgrade later. I will probably plumb at least one this week, in reality I should do both and just be done with it, but my time is limited and my plumbing skills are not that great either. Looks like I can just run flexible lines to make it work, hopefully, because that will make things significantly easier. I am also thinking that I will plumb direct off the existing hot water lines, that way I could set the big water heater to run once a week for a few hours, that would keep the water warmer than the basement temps and make reheating it much easier.

I have lots of business related office work that has been fun, no real updates and I am not ready for the snow on Sunday. I have a few things to deal with today, then Saturday will be a mad scramble to get ready. I don't even have the plow or snow tires on the F-350 yet. I also have to dig out the snow plow for the Salvage Garage and try to move a few things around before they are permanently trapped in a snow bank.

Strouty you have more patience than I do. I would have said that he was the one to bury it back there so he can be the one to dig it out.

Side note, I feel like we should start a pool as to how long it takes for a new forklift to appear in this thread lol.

Now my buddy wants to get his plow out of my shop...

I am at the Hill plugging in some things, then headed to the Salvage Garage to get a few things moved, then back to the Hill to try and do a quick bit of outdoor organization before the storm drops the white stuff on me.

Now I am trying to move the new to me stainless blade, local fisher dealer said it will work on the Ford without any problems, except it isn’t working, at all. Just get a nice flashing red light on the controller. Supposedly it is a communication error, the plow worked fine on the other truck a couple weeks ago, it ***** because it is in the way and I wanted it back at the Hill without making two trips. I am going to try a couple more things, then I guess I will have to come over and get it with my 3500. This day is already devolving rapidly, nothing wants to start and I have too much stuff in the way with no easy way to move it. :(

Two hours of daylight, I have almost everything that needs to start, started, now all I have to do is move everything I can. The Salvage Garage is in the "jackpot" area and they are saying 12 to 16" by tomorrow night. The Hill isn't much better, but then on Wednesday it is going to be 50 with heavy rain and wind, just lovely. I am at the point now where I am just shooting for being able to plow without trapping my doors behind bankings. I think I can make it, then I have to go up and do the same thing at the Hill, it is supposed to start snowing around 8PM, that means 6 hours and I know I have 30 minutes of driving and I have not eaten anything yet, so I am going to have to do that at some point as well, sounds like fun, right?

Well, that was exciting. The BFF died right in the middle of the road. No combination of anything would start it again, luckily things are pretty simple and I was able to use my remote ignition switch and it was good to go. I got the dead electric forklift out of the way enough that it will be fine for now, pretty much everything along this side is staying where it is, just no time to get it all moved.

I hear you on stuff being a pain when it stops..... Had to get the skid steer started before the snow. Had not run it all fall... It was parked at an adjacent property across the street (M-in-L).... First over with the air tank to fill a tire. Then a second trip... Then crank to start... Some fire up, but won't stay running.... ****, no need to run the battery down too much. Back over to get the can of starting fluid... Liberal squirt in the air cleaner... Finally it stayed lit off. Whew, took a bit for it to run up and reach full throttle... I'm wondering if the diesel lost some of the prime to the injection system?? New Holland LS150.

Then drive it over to my garage and air up the tires the full amount....

I did get a little smarter this summer and I bought a solar battery tender. That worked good. It kept the battery at charge over the late summer and fall/winter. Especially with it parked away from an outlet...

Regardless, it's now in my driveway with a tarp over it, ready to push snow.

Always an adventure! I haven’t tried any of the solar chargers yet, always concerned that you could cook something and fry things in a bad way.

I got the biggest stuff moved, now that it is dark and started spitting snow I guess I can move all the smaller stuff. It is 4:30 and I have probably an hour to finish up at the SG and another 12 hours to get things ready at the Hill. :(

I wish I hadn’t lost all that time to my back/neck, then a couple days in the office when I could have done something outside. I guess I did get the electrical stuff done and that is a big hurdle. I don’t even have a fully functional snow plow yet, the burb was throwing a fit when trying to use the plow, acts like something is drawing too much and the truck about shuts off when trying to do any functions, I am not totally freaked out because the batteries were down and it could have been that, but I won’t know until it is too late. I brought the new plow inside so at least I don’t have to dig it out of a snow bank. I just hope the Ford hooks up a works, if not, it is going to be a long night.

It is just starting to snow at the Hill, I am not really ready, but whatever. I got the big stuff shuffled, moving the plow into the Quonset hut so once I change over to the studded snows I won’t have to be in the storm to put the plow onto the truck. I am going to try and shuffle three vehicles with the ramp truck, then I have to try and put a couple things away, park some other stuff and hope that I did enough.

I have given up on moving anymore vehicles, if I had grabbed the gray burb first it might have been easier, but for now I have a Volvo with flat tires on the ramp truck. I did move one other burb, but the gray one is kind of in the way. Next is to swap tires on the Ford, then get the plow on it. Once that is done I will put the military forklift in the lift bay so it isn’t buried in snow. I won’t be home until morning, that is clear. Glad the storm is delayed a bit, that will let me sleep in a bit more before I have to make the rounds plowing. My back and I have been arguing since about 5 tonight, changing the tires isn’t exactly the best idea, but I don’t want to plow with the summer tires and wheels if I can avoid it.

An all nighter once in a while is good for the soul. I love it when I'm in the groove and the 3rd wind kicks in!

That isn't going to happen tonight, I am almost out of steam and I haven't even made enough room to get the Ford on the lift. I may just plow with the summer tires, or I just go home right now and get some rest, then get back into it early tomorrow morning. My back is going to take a break with or with out me at this point. :(

If I can get the tires changed, then things are easier from there, I don't have enough room to put the truck inside with the plow and change the tires on the floor, it could be done int he quonset hut, but then I have to haul everything down there and freeze my **** off. I am going to try and power through and see what breaks first.

I got the wheels changed, it hurts, going to torque the lugs, then go hook up the plow and put away the summer tires, then I can pick things up and head home.

The good forklift has junk batteries too, they I had to put two booster packs to start it after it was running an hour before. Need to make a new battery box so I can put normal batteries in it.

Strouty, I don't comment much here but I've been following your adventures since the old 'Something just clicked' thread and I gotta say you have to be about the hardest working man on here. Lots of times I just think, man, I just wish this dude would slow down a little. I know you have a lot on your plate but gotta think about your health too.

A sense of humor goes a long way, good job keeping it light Strouty. But like has been mentioned, take care of yourself, there's only so much one man can do, taking a break, letting things be, sometimes its for the best.

Good luck with the storm, my brother up in Saranac Lake says they got 8", more on the way.
