Strouty after all the curveballs and setbacks you've had for what seems like so long it's great to see your plans come together for a big win! Getting everything organized will be a huge win and sounds like it's already helping your mental state.

The menatal part is going to be seriously freeing. I was concerned about moving a lot of the stuff from the Hill, mostly because I wouldn’t have the time or space to organize things. This system allows me to indiscriminately put things away, yet still be able to find them later. My previous way was to try and remember where I put things.

To clarify, the current process is more like entering things into a spreadsheet as it comes to you, essentially it is a random list. Later on, a simple search allows items to be found and then I can start trying to categorize or organize “like with like”. It may seem like an extra step, but I do not have time to do it the way most people would when sorting a cabinet or one room, there is just too much stuff. I would love to setup tables and lay everything I own out to see exactly what I have, then put it away all nice and organized, but, well everyone has seen the pictures of what I am dealing with.

So assuming you will eventually put like items together, that will require you to log an item out of a certain drawer, and re enter it to another drawer in a new location.

You mentioned adding a new item would only take a minute or so, will removing it be as quick and easy? At the risk of sounding negative, with as much stuff as you have, that would still be a lengthy process. Not impossible, but still somewhat daunting.

Like someone mentioned on the previous page, you might be way better off sorting as you move rather than doing it twice. And also mentioned was to get rid of stuff before the move. I know, I know, but it is the standard answer.lol

Definitely would not be better trying to sort as I go, that is essentially what I have been trying to do for years and it isn’t working. I don’t think people saying that are understanding the amount of stuff that is essentially already randomized that would need to be handled all at once. If I find something while putting stuff away that really does belong somewhere right now, I move it there, but we are talking about a few things among thousands.

Removing an item is just as quick as adding, emptying a drawer or bin is also simple. If moving a bin to a different location it is as simple as adjusting the name to fit the new location. No matter how many times you ask, I can’t tell you that there isn’t going to be “wasted” time in comparison to doing nothing. This is all a “pay it forward” situation, I am the beneficiary of this and it is worth it in the long run.

Maybe best to leave it where ever you put it the first time then? Since it will all be logged, you’ll always be able to find it, so no real need to categorize like items together?

That is either the dumbest thing you have said yet or you are just being a troll. I am done talking about this, it has been fun, but I don’t have time to waste fighting with someone that isn’t me, will never be me, and obviously can’t put themselves in my shoes.

I’m sorry, I didn’t think we were arguing? I didn’t mean to be argumentative. I think you are misunderstanding me, I’m just trying to understand your system, and offering what I thought were options you hadn’t considered.

I will refrain from asking questions or offering any advice in the future. Sorry.

should be able to clean up the front yard specifically in prep for snow.
That ain't right :) Its amazing how fast we are going the other way. I say once the longest day of the year hits its time to start getting ready for winter. I just finished next years wood and I have 2 windows coming tomorrow to transplant into both my bathrooms before winter hits.

ok so if I understand you and what you are trying to do better.... seems like you are currently in the Amazon world of a warehouse.... When the robot goes to pick the turbo out of aisle 14, shelf 12, spot 7, right next to it in spot 6 could be a wheelbarrow.... nothing like about the two items, the robot could care less it just knows what it is currently looking for is in aisle 14, shelf 12, spot 7.

In the grand scheme of things you just need to know where that turbo is or that wheelbarrow is right now.

The idea will be once yo get all that stuff in one place, you will then try to to keep things "like" together and when you do, just create a new QR for the new "like" that you will be moving to the new location or will you be changing the location of the QR to where you moved this item to?

Oh wait it just dawned on me. Every item will have its own QR code and a location tag associated to it, listing every location where that particular item exists...

While amazingly hectic to get to where you are finally, it will save you a ton of time and money. I cant count the amount of time over the years I have read where you admitted buying something you know you already have several of, but it was easier to get new than to spend the time looking for your current ones. This must be a breath of fresh air to k ow going forward you will be able find what you need and not feel crazy looking for it.

I have had so much going on and not one bit of it was productive for the Salvage Garage. Taxes for all companies were filed yesterday so that is one huge PITA done with. I have put a lot of time in the office, still have more time to spend, but no real deadlines to speak of. Hopefully this means I can get back to being productive where I would like to be.

I am still in discussions with my local tax collector about the tax assessment for the Salvage Garage. While they have worked with me a bit, the taxes have increase from just under $1400 a year to just over $4000 a year (it was at almost $5000). I have a meeting with them next week and I still have a formal abatement process that I can go through if we fail to come to a compromise. I don't want to start off with a high value, then do all my improvements and have to move out because my taxes are too high.

Have a great day, I am off to handle a generator issue at a tower site.
