When you get the door cabinets... you can open the backs on a few and line them up to make a tunnel... have some fun... maybe make a little room out of stacks of the drawer listas and you have to crawl thru the tunnel to get to them.

Just a suggestion...

The idea of crawling through a tunnel is making my body cringe.

So like I said before, I will be ready at 10:15.

Two phone calls, some research, advil, tylenol, another round of heating pad, and one more inversion. Ready to go!

Now I am back to where I should have been last night. New cabinet is loaded, a bit of extra room, bins are much easier to pull out, so that is a plus. Need to get the card file cabinets out to the conex, they are really in the way now.

That is the truth! At least I know this. I am looking at this more as a storage upgrade than anything. I am all ready figuring I have several of my old cabinets to sell.

I got one more of the Listas placed, going to start working on the last two that are staying inside. I am actually thinking I may start loading one as I build it so I can make it actually fit what I need it to fit, rather than trying to fit things to the existing drawers.

I think I am actually going to have to make containers to hold the drawer slides and tracks. I don't really know what to do with all the drawers that will be left over. I think I am going to end up with about 50 drawers that I will need to store until I get the new storage wall uprights. I guess I am going to have to make room in the conex and the other trailer.

That is too funny, I hadn't thought of it that way, but yes, I am storing my storage.

My stuff owns me, I am my stuff's *****.

On the other hand, I am still excited, in an overwhelmed way. I can actually see the stockroom taking shape in my head. Looks like most of my current shelving will be sold and I will be able to use just Lista instead. I think the stockroom will end up being about 2/3 the size and have twice the storage. I can also see integrating workstations and benches, so I have an electronics area and some basic space for when I am gathering hardware for a project.

I am gaining, got the card file cabinets out and another lista out. Going to work on unloading two more cabinets so I can get them out as well. The next lista is going to be customized a bit more than the others.

One more cabinet unloaded, one more to go, maybe two, if I get ambitious. Still looking at way too many drawers, not sure what I am going to do with them all. I can see I need to spend a good week listing things on craigslist and ebay, way too much stuff that I am not interested in keeping around just in case. I feel that once I start organizing things I can start purging stuff as well, been a long time since I had easy access to a lot of the things I am finding. I am also going to have to do a lot of labeling!

That is where I usually put all dozen or so tape measures, but with things moving around, I have misplaced a bunch of them. I figured if I mentioned labeling you would hear me.

Figure out exactly how many drawers you'll need to finish with the uprights and sell the rest as normal cabinets to buy the uprights. Then you won't be storing extra drawers, crushing extra cabinets and wondering when you'll get uprights to finish.

I have no problem selling other cabinets to pay for the uprights, but not the Lista ones. There will be cabinet cases hanging around, so if I end up not needing certain size drawers, then I can sell them after the stock room is built. I may have to sell some then, my design is for a bunch of the shallower (22") drawers and pull out shelves as well. I need to draw it to scale so I can see what things will look like. Honestly, if I end up with extra drawers, I will probably use them in the conex, it would make my life much easier with a lot of the items I am storing in there.

That was one long feeling day. I got the green Lista cabinet loaded into the back of my truck so I can bring it to my Dad's place. Brought all the card file cabinets out to the conex, still need to put them away, but they are inside. I also took the feet off one of the old cabinets so I can try and put them onto the one that did not have feet, looks like it will be a straight forward swap, just 8 bolts. I will take all the other feet off the remaining cabinets, I bet they would sell on ebay.

Here are the latest pictures. I almost forgot that I unloaded my leather love seat, it came from an auction last weekend. It is going home, just need to make room first.

I just had a thought. What about a spreadsheet in something like Excel idk but a program with blocks in a grid. Use the columns as your prospected vertical sets of drawers and shelves. You can just use how ever many columns of drawers you'll have and the use the single blocks as shallow drawers and shelves. If you select a couple blocks in a column that would be a double deep drawer, four would be a drawer 4x as deep as a single etc. use colors to define each drawer and assign a column/category etc for reference. Once you know how many columns wide you can go with the drawers and shelving, it'll be extremely fast to figure out how many drawers and shelves of what configuration you'll need without having to do a 3D model or going insane setting it up a thousand different ways. Spend a few hours planning it out and then do it.

Anytime you want to kick me in the *** in my thread, I need a boost. :D

*** kicked, not that you needed it.

I think I would much rather work with sketchup, I need to learn how to use it no matter what. The biggest thing I am not sure about is the width of the new aisles, I would like to have the drawers be able to fully open on both sides without touching, but then I would need to be off to the side to get to them. I don't know yet, at least I can mess around with the current setup before buying the new stuff. My current stockroom has a lot of dead space and I want to make sure the new one uses as much space as possible.

That's I thing I've noticed while using my drawers in the temporary layout that I have, got to have plenty of room to open them. I had it figuired out for full opening, but not enough to stand in front of, on the 30" it's kinda hard to reach all the way across. So, your probably not far off with your thinking on spacing.

When I do the final design, I am thinking of alternating the the full depth units with shallow depth, so you have one of each in the sections, it should allow me to keep the aisles a good 6" narrower by doing that. Luckily I have a section of each, so I can take actual measurements.

This morning I went to my Dad's shop and unloaded the smaller green lista cabinet, I think he will be very happy with it. If I wasn't so invested in the idea of the storage wall, I would probably have kept the cabinet, but since it was an older style drawer, there was no good way to install the drawers into the uprights. I could have made it work, but the modular aspect would have been lost and I really like being able to reconfigure things as needed. honestly, I was only using five drawers out of the entire cabinet, so it was more of a flat surface to collect ****.

I'm sure once you're done, you'll have a lot of empty drawers. That's a whole dealership worth of storage there.

Neatly organized half empty drawers are better than the **** piles I have though so keep at it!

The plan is to leave some space for future expansion, I used to fill every inch of every drawer, I don't want to do that this time around.

So far today has been very unproductive, I feel like I need to do something at the shop other than water the plants. I spent some time on the Lista site looking at options for the storage wall, seems like you can do just about anything with it. They offer tambour doors, vertical cabinets, bench tops, pegboard, and more. I saw a couple cool pictures that gave me some more ideas, most of the time the aisles were not big enough to open drawers on both sides. I am thinking that as long as I can open a drawer all the way, while standing in front of it, that should be enough space. I don't want to waste it if I don't need to.

Put drawers back in, looking at it, I think I will probably pull a bunch more of the light gray drawers as they are easier to store than the blue ones. By loading things up, I can see what I don't like and what I do like. I figure I will know what I want after a few more weeks of this!

Probably will be weeks, I still have some other projects going on and then I am sure those other cabinets are going to have to be picked up sooner rather than later. So I won't have as much time as I would like to dedicate to this project after Monday. I am going to do as much as I can by the end of tomorrow. I did find that some of the pallets that were from the Snap On boxes are a perfect size to make crates to hold drawers and rollers. Also looks like if I do it right, I can combine the drawer and roller for even more space savings. I tried to do combine the two parts originally, but when you stacked them the bearings would git and the drawers would try and roll away.

This last cabinet I put together is by far my favorite yet. I was not even thinking about doing it this way, but one of the cabinets had a partition in the middle that made me think how nice it would work and look. Here she is:

This is the partition that none of the others had:

I like the sliding shelf for your heavy stuff, that looks like it'll help stash some of the hard to store items.

What kind of corner clamps are those, been wanting some and like the way they look.

Stronghold if I remember correctly. I have not used them a lot, but when I have, they are great, especially the one that holds a vertical too.

good to see some one from maine, whats for sale in the storage units, I see you also have a military truck,

I have military tires for sale, I have not really decided what is going on craigslist yet. As soon as I have a handle on my Lista situation, then I will be seriously diving into that. ;)
