Don't think I ever managed to read your original thread. I know it was one on my list to get to when I had time. Tagging along on this one from the beginning though.

If you need some more room I can take all the suburbans off your hands, seriously though congratulations on the new thread and thumbs up for the progress you have made.

Wow, go away from checking the thread for a couple days and there are like 3 new pages. Keep up the work. Looking forward to seeing this stock room completed.

Strouty,

I never got to go through your old thread what do you do? What will the storeroom be for?

Follow along on this one, I go in spurts, but when I go, I really go.

As for what I do for a living, I am self unemployed and I make my money however I can. I used to build towers for a living, I still do tower work here and there, but I really pick and chose the jobs. I do a bunch of consulting, I also buy and sell things, probably more buying than selling though. I manage a handful of towers, I am partners in a couple, and I own another one.

Basically, the shop and the stockroom are for my personal projects, with a hint of business thrown in.

Wait til you get the cabinets in, I bet you'll find more configurations with them if the doors fit those shells you're working with. The arrangements are almost endless with the pieces you have all being from the same size cabinets.

I never really looked at the frames of the other cabinets, they may have similar innards, but they are not the same dimensions, I know that for sure. I am looking forward to making one or two into roll around workstations. Then I can sell my Snap On cart.

I actually used to have the ebay user ID "self-unemployed". I should have some better updates later today, going to be really busy. At least it isn't hot out.

The shop is nice and cool, probably won't last, I have to open up the overhead door to move some things around. At least it is not as hot as outside is. Doing a few things in the office before I get started on the Lista project.

Thanks for filling me in. Looking forward to your updates later today. I will try to not let it go more than a day or two without checking in.

250, I finally bought the rebuild kit for one of my Quincy air compressors. That is on the docket soon, along with the rest of the stuff that I have been trying to get done in the last 5 years.

Nothing major so far, I decided that instead of putting the couch back in my daily driver suburban, I would take a moment and clean out the future "perfect" suburban to use it for temporary storage of the couch. I also swapped out the fork base on one Lista cabinet to the feet, so it is like the rest of them, plus I can move it easily with the pallet jack, before I had to put 2x4 under it to get the pallet jack under it.

It is pretty hot, at least for us, the thermometer in the shade says 88 and it also feels humid, the only good thing is I will probably lose a few pounds in sweat.

I spent some time assessing things, found a few more things that can go away, then I saw something and decided it would be worth some more thought. I am going to make a double stack (yes Pines, I said STACK) of Lista cabinets to replace some old racking that I never really liked. It will allow me to have drawers and fixed shelves, I just have to do some modifications to make it work. So now I have another project.

I am also going to unload the stack racks and take them outside, they waste so much space inside.

I feel like I am playing that game called "parking lot" where you move the cars around to get one out. Shuffling is going well. Almost to the point where some stuff can go outside, for good!

Playing "parking lot"... Sorry, no... you are playing advanced TETRIS... welcome to my life.

Stacking... would have never thought of that... great idea. Take pictures...

FWIW... you have a lot of stuff... some could probably go away...

Yeah, I here you, but go away just doesn't always compute. I didn't want to steal your Tetris line. At this point parking lot makes more sense, because I am trying to take things out, not pack everything in tight.

I keep thinking I am almost there, then I see another shiny thing and another tangent is created. No offense to Bill, but I can't get to that point again. He is probably where I was (at least in the shop), a few years back when I started the other thread, my shop was totally a warehouse and not usable for anything. Prior to the Lista cabinets, I could use the shop without any issues, at least space wise. Now I am trying to pack in a bunch more stuff, but have not had time to actually organize things, so I have a ton of drawers that have nothing in them, just waiting patiently for me to get the space semi cleaned up. Then it is on, organizing a mess that has been years in the making, I was always looking for more drawers, more shelves, more bins, these cabinets should stop most if not all of that. Fingers crossed!

The other thing I need to figure out is my welding/fabrication table. I think it is way too big for most of my projects, I hate the idea of keeping it outside, but it may be the best option, then I can just bring it in when needed. I also thought about cutting it down to be a bit better size. I think an ideal size would by 5' by 5', with a really thick top. It *****, because I used to have a nice 5' by 10' piece of steel and I had it cut so I could fabricate some benches and as you can see, I never have done that. Just one more thing in the back of my brain, that and it is hot outside.

At least I have the legs too:

Then I need to get the skid winch over to my Dad's place so we can modify the engine/pump to run his rock drill.

Cleaned out things, I am liking the way it looks so far. There is enough room on the back wall to add one more shelving unit and my welder will fit near the outlet.

Fits like a glove! Well, sort of, the steel is behind the box, but it is pretty damn nice compared to being in front of the stack rack.

As soon as the stack rack goes out, I am going to get the shelving unit over here so I can put stuff on it.

are you in an area where a carport or something could be added to use the future fabrication table outside? There is a guy with a small machine shop at his home. He used to do a ton of work for the local power plants. His shop is full of machinery, and has some table space, but he had a couple of large heavy fab tables outside underneath a small carport he used to work on the large projects. Kept him out of the weather and sun, but also gave him room to move around inside and work inside the shop on smaller projects when needed.

Thanks CB, lots of work, but all worth it.

jp, I do not currently have an area suitable for a carport, winter snow removal would become a nightmare, as I only own three sides of my shop and less than 5 feet on the court side. I do plan on adding another conex and then putting a roof over the two of them, most likely a big tent.

I have a bunch of pictures, but having issues uploading, so I will add them later. I am pretty well cooked, almost literally. Only had help for an hour and a half today, but it was good timing. The shop is almost back together, I still have to deal with two chunks of plate steel and an adjustable height table. I did not hear back about my other job, so I am going to push forward with this tomorrow as well. All I can say is I need to bring more food tomorrow, I am starving right now.

May I suggest turkey bacon?[emoji3]

One stack is more than anyone else has around here, two would secure your title for many years to come.

I guess I never thought of it in that way. I wonder what the world record for stacking Lista cabinets is? The worlds tallest filing cabinet used to be something like 40', guy had a world record. It does look like three will fit on top of each other, but it would be almost silly to do it.

It took about 8 pages, but "sell" and "get rid of" finally entered the conversation. It's a shop, not a warehouse! Keep saying that!

Yup, not a warehouse, just a hoarder display shack.

I have had too many ideas today, I think I forgot some. On top of all that, I am looking to upgrade my 16 year old Nikon D100 camera and the new ones are all way better specs, but I am torn between a few of them. The prices are way out there as well, not so happy about that, but when I bought my D100, it was just shy of $2000 without any lenses.

Way too many irons in the fire. Quit worrying about cameras and do some stuff to completion. Sit back and ask yourself where $2000 might better serve you, then shelve all of it and concentrate on the 4k you already spent this month.
I swear you are just a much more expensive version of Bill sometimes that needs that constant spending money high.

I have a job that requires a really good camera, mine won't cut it, all ready tried. I need to do what they call photo simulations of the tower I am proposing. The company that usually does it wants $1200 to do it. I am looking at this as a win, win situation. As for your insight, you are correct, unfortunately I can justify this one way too well.

I dunno, I need to check in on your thread. I was really impressed with you tackling all that shop equipment and finishing them to completion last month.:)

I would think cl or ebay would yield a 5 year old camera for 1/2 the price of new?
