That is my favorite movie, but I don't want to reenact any scenes from it.

Glad someone caught my joke about heights.

Spent too much time, but got most everything done. Will have to clean up the mess of stuff and tools, but there are plenty of places to put everything, all I have to do is figure out where I want things to go. LOL

Looks good Strouty. I lost track, so you have two double stacks?
I can't wait to retro some sliding shelves into the Vidmar shelf cabinet I have.

How do you like your powermatic drill press?

Damn it looks good and I can see floor, clean floor!!

Don't let anyone give you to much ****, your shop like mine is a ever evolving space that has to do more than one thing and there are times when you need to make time to work on the space so that you can work in the space.

These cabinets will allow you to organize and have the space modular enough to work on just about any project with less time for set up and clean up.

Damn that's coming together nicely!

Thanks Nines!

Only one double stack, I don't want to do another one, I had hoped that the fixed shelves would work, but even after cutting the locking mechanism out, cutting the rear seam out, and removing the front trim piece, they still had to be beaten in place. I know for sure that the storage wall is just a little bit wider and deeper. Besides, if I did two, then it wouldn't be one of a kind. :headscrat

Thanks Thumper, I do so many different things in my shop that I have to keep things fairly flexible. The guys that are giving me a time about my stuff are just offering a viewpoint, it helps to see how others see things, I know I will never have a shop as nice as some of the ones on the forum, but I really don't want a museum, I want a workshop.

Lastly, I don't think I would ever in a million years thought I would say this, but I have more storage than I know what to do with. :dunno:

I keep thinking that there are another 13 sliding door cabinets that I will have to pick up any day now. :willy_nil

Just read the whole thread! That is a nice spacious shop you've got. If you don't need any of those "spare" cabinets, I'll take them off your hands! Seriously, you've come a long way.

I was waiting for that moment of reality to set in. You have an extreme amount of storage. I have been coming to that reality for years but can't seem to shake it. There was a post in Bill's thread that I often think of but hearing it there sparked more fire under my ***. The poster basically said Bill needs to pull everything out and only put back the things that are going in there instead of trying to clean up around ****. I'm in the mental process of removing almost all of my file cabinets and shelves, leaving only pallet racking, machines and work tables that are absolutely needed. I plan to take the extras to my storage and only bring back things as I find they are really needed. There are lots of things I have in drawers that only get used every few months, there's no reason for that **** to be junking up my shop when I don't need regular access to it.

This is equivalent to you taking things out to the connex and out buildings to make your shop more work friendly. You and Bill are big inspirations to some of us so keep it up.

That is a great point, I am working towards setting up specific areas that will have storage designed for the tools and supplies needed to do certain jobs. One of the great things is that I can cut up a couple cabinets and use the parts to make drawers into some benches and mobile workstations. The sad part is that all this work is only temporary and I will have to move things all over again when I get the stock room figured out. I will say that it won't be just a stockroom, with all the storage and versatility of the storage wall units, I can have an electronics bench/area and another just for my radio control hobby that has been put on the back burner for way to long. Even with that extra usage, I still think the stockroom will be smaller than the current one and if not smaller, it will at least hold ten times the stuff, but in a much more organized fashion. I may actually be able to bring a lot of the stuff from the conex back inside the shop. This year is going to be my purge year for sure.

Thanks for the encouragement, there will be lots of goings on in the shop this year!

I also dug out the pallet racking for over my Snap On box, so that is another project that I need to get started. Once I clean off the welding table, it will become a fairly easy project. My camera came in and it is awesome, I played around with it for a bit, I am glad I bought it, can't wait to use it for the actual job, then it will really be worth it!

Love that blue.

I just had an idea for accessing the double stacks if you make a few.

You know the ladders like they have in libraries that roll along a top rail ? I wonder if you could run a rail at the top of the top stack setup a ladder with castors and a foot stop thingy and then have easy access to the top stack.

How high are the cabinets ? Look to be a bit more than 3' each.

Cheers GB

Strouty, could you shorten the cabinet legs or remove them and set the cabinets on cribbing blocks to keep the use of at least half of the receptacles above them? That way they could still be moved with the forklift if needed. Looking good. That should make a nice work area.

GB, the cabinets are about 4 feet tall and the library ladder is a great idea, that is how lista does it, they offer this fold out rolling staircase thing. I don't see any more stacks happening, but I may change my mind later.

RJ, the legs are fully adjustable for leveling the cabinets, so you can't easily shorten them. If I took them off and used 2 by 4s under them I could probably have full access of the outlets, but right now it looks like I can use the top portion without doing anything.

The Lista cabinets look great. Hopefully you have a label maker ready when you start putting tools away in all those drawers. But it should provide plenty of usable space now. I like nines comment about sorting out and only putting back what is really needed. I need to practice that philosophy myself. (I suppose many of us have the problem)
But at least you now have the quality drawer space to put things as you sort.

Everything is looking fantastic Stro... those new cabinets with the sliding fronts... not sure how useful those would be unless you removed the tops and seriously "stacked" "cubed" them into a wall... say two high by 5 or 6 wide.

Maybe in one of your outside storage units...

Damn you are the luckiest person ever... TOO MUCH STORAGE

Roof is on the schedule for this fall. Leaks have been averted so far.

The incoming cabinets may be stackable on top of the existing cabinets, not sure until I get them to play around with. Most excited about a couple for the stainless tops.

Thanks, As I sit here in Seattle today, My wife has her 6 month check up after having breast cancer. The internet here is very poor. Just about the time I find the thread I want to type on, it glitches out and I have to sign back on to their wi.fi.We decided to spend the night so that we don't have to make the round trip in one day. Hopefully it will be good news and we can call it a celebration. Fingers crossed. Rich

Strouty's what's plan for other 13 cabinets? You gonna use them as bench, double stack those or something else? What about stacking theses on top of the drawer units.

Stacking them was my first thought. A lot of them have stainless tops, I think those will be useful for some portable workstations.

Yesterday was a wash, had to be at a tower for part of the day while testing was done, then I went to drop my car at my buddies shop. Today is all about my car, going to drop the subframe/powertrain so I can change my flexplate, starter, turbo, and AC compressor.

Awesome RC, sounds like a nice time on top of the good news.

Had a productive day, but on cars. Had to buy a few extra parts, but things are looking good. I should be able to button things up tomorrow, then be back in the shop for at least part of Monday.

Thanks, I also have not been on here as much as I normally been. Too many other things to do. As part of getting ready to retire, We purchased a motor home, then we purchased a duplex as a rental. Our riding lawn mower blew up last night. After begging Sears to sell us one and not being successful we went to Costal supply and got one, but by the time we got home it was too dark to mow, today is church and then over to the rental. Tennant asked for some grass seed, a couple of small spots need a little help. So my wife and I will most likely do a little weeding while we are there. Hired a lawn service that will start this Wed. I think. Lots of little stuff to get done. We closed on the duplex last Friday and had both rented that day also. Rich

Sounds like a whirlwind, but it also sounds like a decent investment too.

I am off to my buddies shop to try and button up my car so I can get to a couple of computers that need fixing. Hope everyone has a nice Father's Day.

This day has been miserable. The shop I am in is not air conditioned, one fan for 4000 square feet. My car's driveshaft got destroyed when it was removed yesterday, I didn't find out until I tried to put it back in. So now I am working on my GF's car, trying to put it back together, of course I didn't take it apart, so there are a ton of bolts just sitting on the lift arms. I don't have the right tools and apparently neither do they, so I am super frustrated, since I know I have the tools at my shop. I have no ride, so I have to get one of these gems back together for sure. Worst case I have to call my GF to come and get me again. On top of all that, they don't have any sort of tool cart that will hold tools while you are working, so my pockets are stuffed and my back is killing me from constantly having to pick tools and parts up off the floor. I am done crying, at least for now.
