The two of you are making me feel like a whiner.

When I herniated L4 and L5 in my mid twenties, I started doing things differently. Then my arms/hands started taking a beating. All this time I have been acquiring things to make my life easier, I just need to start setting them up. I still do stupid things physically, but right now the mental aspects are showing physical symptoms.
My god strouty, we are so much alike.... Every post you make seems like i'm looking in the mirror....

chin up bud. It could be worse. You could be dead or homeless.

When I was 34 I had half a disc removed from L4/L5 and now I am now 85 with some of the shop problems you are faced with, but on a much smaller scale.
Just read through your whole thread, I am tired, going to lie down.
By the way, congratulations, you are doing a fine job.

Thanks guys, been hunting for a replacement trailer this morning. Got mad at a craigslist seller, now looking at some that are new. I am not sure I can live with a 5x10, been looking at 6x12 too, used is either total junk or almost new prices.

I read through this whole thing, don't feel bad, a lot of us suffer from the same types of issues.
I was really surprised those Listas didn't go higher on auction, I know I wouldn't have been able to resist taking a few home!

That would make me sad. :(

I ended up taking the day off from the shop. I was here in the morning for maybe 30 minutes and I am here now for a quick cleanup for tomorrow.

I spent the day trying to find a decent trailer. Most people that have trailers for sale are really slow at getting back to you. I had one guy take 5 hours to answer two questions by text (would not answer the phone). Then I talked to another couple people, but they were asking too much and it was clear they were stuck on the number. I found a 6 by 12 that looked to be in decent shape, $750. I text, as requested, the guy answers some questions, then calls me to discuss. I get address, head out (45 minute drive, plus bank trip). When I get there, he says trailer is sold  I ask him what he means, he says he sold it to someone that is coming tomorrow for $850. I ask him what happened to first come, first served (he had texted me that earlier), I asked if I could look over the trailer and if I like it match the offer, he said sure. I looked at the trailer, then said I will give you your $750 asking price right now in cash. He says sorry, but if the guy doesn't show, I will call you. I told him to lose my number and left. What a **** move , then I talked to my brother, he suggested a couple places, then I started thinking about what I would actually put on the trailer. At that point I decided maybe a single axle no brakes trailer would not really work for me. I found a couple dual axle trailers, but they were all way too expensive. I then found an oddball trailer for a bit more reasonable price. I ended up buying a 6.75' by 12' trailer with square tube side rails. It isn't in perfect shape, but it is in a lot better shape than the trailer I sold. It hauls nice, was inspected this year, the brakes are not currently working, but they looked all there and not rusted. I almost think that the brake issue could be my truck wiring. It will get put to use on Friday and again next week, I plan on a good overhaul of the trailer, a bit of a redesign as well. I still have long term plans to make a couple trailers, then get them galvanized so they won't rust in the future. That is just one more of my many dream projects. :dunno:

Look into LineX for your DIY trailer. That stuff is tough and probably as good or better rust protection than galvanized. I'm going to have the tongue of my pop-up camper LineX'ed after I cut off the welded on **** tongue jack. Then I'll use a bolt on tongue jack.

Funny you should mention a trailer jack, the one on my "new" trailer doesn't work! I just thought that the jack was all the way up, luckily the trailer tongue lifts fairly easily, the jack cranked back in, but will not go down with any load on it. It is a bolt on one, I prefer the ones that are removable as the jack tends to get in the way of my suburban doors when jack knifed. As far as galvanizing, it is near and dear to my heart, you know, the towers and all.

I am packing things up, I think the shop is the most cleaned that it has ever been. Once the rain stops I can take all the scrap out, also need to move the snowblower to the house, then I have a few things to go to the next auction, the next week should get me to the point where it can snow and I will be ready. Of course I say that, but I still need to install the new glow plug harness in the burb, then I have to change the plow control and part of the harness so it can use the V-Plow. At least the shop will be ready to do the work!

Tomorrow is the air compressor assessment, possible repair, just depends on how much time we have. He is supposed to be here around noon. My Lista cabinet is supposed to be delivered as well and it is supposed to be raining cats and dogs.

I definitely do things in spurts, I start out with a great attitude, but the shear amount of stuff I feel obligated to move, store, or do is what wears me out.

I think I'm qualified to ***** you out, because you're a hoarder and so am I.
And it takes one to know one.
And I know most people that complain about these types of issues really don't want anybody telling them how to fix the problems.
But....what the heck, here's a go-round for ya.

Here's an idea:
STOP BUYING ****
You'll have less to Move, Sort, Store, and worry-stress about.
I know, not happening right?

In the years you've been running this thread, you have proved that most all the great deals, really aren't that great. Buying bulk-tons of cool stuff and then hauling it to the scrap yard or selling it off .........Gee it just SOUNDS stressful without even doing it.
You wonder why you get stressed?? You've got a nice supply of cool **** right now, so deal with what you have. Tackle some projects this winter, and refrain from hauling MORE in ......not even one more Lista cabinet, in pristine condition..... for $10.

The other thing is, you may not realize that stuff you're putting in your mouth might be affecting your mood and ambition levels.
I did read the post and saw the pics of the 2 pound Tacos.....or Burritos.
And you did say you might try and eat TWO.
NOT GOOD.
Do you drink much Alcohol? (I'm guessing not)
Do you drink much Soda?
Any Soda or sugary drinks are BAD.
Water is good. If you don't already, get used to drinking plain water.

About 4 months ago, I simply got board with drinking, and tapered it off.
Then I got thinking I might try being just a little bit smarter about the other **** I drink and eat. I did some reading, and some googling.
And I came to the conclusion that Sugar and High Fructose Corn Syrup is
just about the same as a mild poison. It won't kill you overnight, but it will kill you eventually. And......it drags you down all the time you consume it.
The addiction can alter your mood. Same thing with all the damn chemicals and preservatives in processed and fast food. That **** is BAD for you!
It affects your health over time.

So anyway, I cut out 99.8% of all Sugar and HFCS, 95% of the Alcohol I was drinking,
most all Processed and FAST FOODS.
It SUCKED at first, but after about 2 weeks I started to feel different, and then I felt incrementally BETTER. I lost 10 pounds without even trying.
I have felt much more relaxed, less stressed about my shop and all my **** I need to organize, and all my long list of projects I never get to.
Little things that have bugged me for years......some of them I have finally tackled and it feels really good!
I'm a more relaxed and patient person, and little things don't aggravate me as much, as I work thru them.

It's all about habits. Good habits and bad habits.
You're in the habit of just buying stuff, and then selling stuff, or scrapping stuff. You can change that habit to one of fixing stuff and using stuff you have to make money with.
I was able to change my bad eating habits to good eating habits. And now the good habit is........a habit. And I do NOT miss the old bad habits!
I do not miss Fast Food or sugar or candy bars. In fact, with the far reduced sugar intake, other things taste better and really sweet now. Fruits like Bananas and Grapes taste sweet as candy. And the flavor of food is way better. It's really a positive experience.

Long story short......
I suggest you try eating better, cut out the sugar and HFCS, get some exercise, JUST to exercise (If you don't already).
If you think about it, it's sorta a 'stop and smell the roses' kind of thing.
Don't let that damn shop run your life, or run you into the ground!

And as usual.....best of luck.

Glad you got the 6.75 x 12 trailer rather than a 5 x 8. I get kidded about my trailer fleet a lot but I love them and the ease of use for different jobs. I have no room for large trucks so a proper trailer is very useful. I think you'll like the capacity of the 6 x 12 and it is still small enough to hitch up and tow well with almost any vehicle.
The rust prevention is a pain where we both live. I'm in process of cleaning and painting one of my trailers now. Seems like a never ending battle. Keep up the good work on the shop. You have lots more usable floor space now and nice that you can pull in and out as needed to work on a vehicle.

Unfortunately, I don't drink alcohol hardly ever, I am not a fan of soda, I don't eat fast food that often (3 times a month?), and I don't smoke or do any drugs (except advil and tylenol).

My biggest issue is sugar for sure, then the fact that I don't get enough aerobic exercise, couple that with stress and you get me.

My attitude about the shop gets amplified due to other stressors that I don't care to discuss on a garage forum, I am working on those as well. I agree that I need to work on myself, essentially to "protect the asset" (meaning be healthy mind/body first and foremost). The last couple years have been an experience, I am learning to trade something for something else, rather than just adding and adding. I also know I am not perfect, will never be perfect, and that is OK. I am slowly building a path up to the top of the wall that is blocking me from where I would like to be, I envision summer of 2018 to be much different than previous years. It took me years and years to get here, I am closing in on four years of realization and changes, I think my "Something just clicked" thread was the start of all this and that was March of 2014. Let's see what things are like in March of 2018, I am hoping for the best, I am working towards it, I can see things shaping up.

Thanks RM, it is very nice to have the space! I also talked to another tower guy and he will take all the steel brackets and stuff I don't want. That makes me feel better, I just hated the idea of sending it for scrap.

This is the first dual axle trailer I have owned that only has one axle with brakes. When people were asking $800 for a 5x10 that looks like it was built out of used bed frames, I figured the extra money was worth it. I want to make this trailer into the bulky item trailer, for hauling to the scrap yard and dump. I am debating if I should just slap on some plywood or if I should use expanded steel. I am thinking that this trailer will only be around for a little while, so probably just use plywood.

I took all the 6.5 diesel pieces and parts and put them in the suburban body out front. I don't want to junk any of that stuff until I know what I need, but having the space back is nice. I am going to concentrate on setting up the compressor now, I also will start pulling apart the one that I think is the worst.

He should be here shortly. I swapped the bad pump for one I think needs minor work so he can hear it run. I also think we will swap the other one I think is good, so he can hear that one as well. It may be that after messing with one, it is obvious what is wrong with the other.

Luckily, my Lista delivery is delayed until tomorrow.

Unluckily, all the binder covers that came with my binder thingy are embossed with the groups logo. At least I have plenty to test my skills on.

We have two good working compressors! The guy spent about 4 hours with me, ended up paying him cash and got a deal. I think it was the best money I have spent in a long time. Now I just need to get things wired up properly and change the oil. Only one pump will be used for now, eventually I will have it setup as a true duplex unit.

I can relate.. A year ago was my cardiac bypass.. Holy **** has things changed... I feel better but can do less... Can't lift ****... Had do do all kinds of extra steps because I simply can't lift anything or hold things straight out in front of me... Adding the p!ow to my tractor, adding the cast iron table extension to my table saw... I got them done but dang...

Recently my niece, a cardiac RN... Sat with me and pretty much convinced me... This is who I am now... Deal with it... She used a lot more words... But that was the theme.

you have an excellent attitude, keep it going

WOOHOO! What was it, just stuck valves?

It was so simple, yet I would not have figured it out. Seriously, I would have redone all the valves and it would have done the same thing. He spent two minutes listening to it and he figured it out. The hydraulic unloader valve senses oil pressure and once it senses oil pressure it starts producing air. I will need to either rebuild it or buy a new one, simple to swap. Go figure.

The other pump was a simple fix as well, that was just leaking air past a rubber flap and it caused all the issues. I look at it as an education, he loved the pumps, said they ran great and would not do anything to the two we tested. The one I thought was junk, well the lower end was toast, like a bomb went off toast. We didn't get to try the last one on the tank, but hand spinning it, he thought it would be a keeper. I am going to pull apart the broken one, just for the education.

Lots of space. I forget, aren't there some lights you wanted to hang? Do it while you have the opportunity.

I think you should reread what is excellent advice. If you do not attempt to improve your health by losing some weight, your back, knees, arms etc are going to remain problematic for the rest of your life. Is that what you really want from this life? 2 lb burritos and poor health?

I've known a guy for a couple of years now and I just found out he was out of control diabetic. Wasn't taking care and was indulging the cravings to the tune of 400lbs. Well he just dropped under 200lbs and is switching to 36 waist pants. He has recovered his entire future.

My sister and her third husband are around 250-275 each. Not an ounce of muscle between them. Throw in my sisters smoking and their only hobby is going out to eat. She huffs and wheezes and sweats and it is a horrible life IMO.

Kev, I gave all the lights away a while ago, needed them gone. As for 2 pound Tacos, well they only happen in October, so i indulge. I had one tonight, I understand all the health issues, but the taco is not the real problem. Besides, two tacos a year that are as big as Rhode Island, that is just fun.

I really do eat healthy food, I just eat more than I need and don’t get enough exercise. I pretty much only drink water, I have a couple of 64 oz containers and I try to drink at least one a day. I was slacking a bit today and I had a headache from mild dehydration. At dinner I had four glasses of water and I am drinking more right now. I may weigh 300, but I don’t look like it, I do feel like it though!

Exactly. Pick something up tomorrow that weighs 100lbs. You have that much needless stress on your muscles and joints every waking moment.

Great news on the compressors.......:rocker:

I didn't come here meaning to preach, just some suggestions about my problems and what has seemed to help me a bit.......far from perfect!
I was 240, now 228 and l-o-w-e-r-i-n-g.
At 6ft 3in my goal is 190-195.

The biggest problem with the taco is the shell I'd say.
Sure looks like fun ........I admit that!

I understand the occasional indulgence, but 300lbs is way too much unless you are like 7' tall and very muscular. Let me share my story if you will allow. I have dropped 60 lbs in the last year due to a lifestyle change to a ketogenic diet. This is a very low carb, high fat intake diet that re-trains your body to burn fat as a fuel source. It wasn't easy at first, but it became easier. I read about it in a mens fitness magazine and the very scientific article appealed to me. I spent about a month researching the diet and went for it. I went from 210lbs to 150lbs. I can see my muscles now, and i also had the side effect of lowering my high blood pressure and getting off my meds. My back pain has reduced a lot, and i feel great. I got half a dozen people at work and half a dozen at church on it as a result of the massive change in my looks. One fellow at church had triglycerides of 465 and after he went on the diet, he dropped to around 130. He said his doctor wanted to hug him. I haven't had my blood work done yet, but i'm confident it will be very good. I was pre-diabetic before. I don't have my hypoglycemic reactions anymore either. I used to get "hangry" when i was starving.
Now i am an appropriate weight for my height, 5'9".
You know i am an engineer and mostly sedentary. My excercise consists of farm chores and working in the shop. I don't work out. This diet fits that lifestyle well.
You might look into it. I can help offline if you want. You have my number.

Thanks 86, I know I am heavy, but no one ever thinks I am as heavy as I am. When I was at my fittest I had stupid low body fat and weighed 195 with a 34 waist. I think if I weighed 225 I would be in good shape for being in my 40s. I currently wear a 42 waist and weigh 305 with all my clothes and boots on (literally, just weighed myself). I feel like having a 36 waist is my optimal size, but trying to meet the BMI numbers is laughable for me. I carry a lot of muscle mass, mostly upper body, especially since I herniated the discs, both legs were effected, the left one completely lost the achilles reflex and the right one was numbed a bit. I am not a gym type, unless it is for weights, I know I need to concentrate on aerobic as most of what I do is limit strength type actions and essentially anaerobic, the tower climbing was almost all that way, so it never helped me to lose weight. Since I am tossing an elliptical trainer, this will sound funny, but I am looking for another one, but one that is smaller in scale. My GF and I would both use it, but the house is small and the one I had just would not fit. We have found a unit that will work, but I am dead set against buying it new, so I have been looking for a used one in my area. The diet you are talking about has been on my radar for a while, but honestly, I don't think anything will help me as much as dealing with the stress. I will say that this morning was a much better morning than most, knowing that the air compressor gamble was worth it has alleviated some of that, even when I open the shop door, I do it slowly, almost as if I think someone is going to come in and make a mess of it again.

Thick bones... I weigh less than you but I'm longer... I mean not as tall as you.

The good news... your survival from a cardiac procedure is 5 times that of a skinny person. So if 1 in 100 die... only a fifth of us fat people will die because of the procedure.

I'm rambling... need to label something... laters.

Speaking of labeling something, the new Lista cabinet is almost here. Going outside to get Clark started and ready to unload.

Originally they said between 10 and 2, so I am happy to have it over and done with. I can go and get the tires dismounted/mounted and dispose of all the junk ones! The burb is full of tires and rims, really full, did I say full.

Well the other day a tire hit me in the head when I came to a stop.

Lista is all unloaded, the cabinet was either a special order cancelation or a demo, it is totally new. Still has all the lista inspection sheets and paperwork inside too. I don't like the latch, you have to use a key to keep it closed, but that should be easy enough to figure a work around. When I get back form the tire place I will get to setting it up. The only issue is that I don't have any extra legs for it, so it can't easily be moved with the pallet jack. I think I can modify it fairly easily, but I will take a look at my extra Lista parts. I don't want to only be able to move it with the forklift, sometimes there is just not enough room.
