Thanks Rich, wish I had more shop time, but things with the tower project have gotten a bit out of control. We just got our building permit and will be starting on the tree removal soon. I will be waiting a bit before doing the foundations, better weather makes for an easier job. I am still fighting the Town and the multi billion dollar corporation and then is what is taking up most of my time.

The tower of the competitor is not a welcome option for us and the community is all mad that the town would allow two towers, some of that anger is directed at us. I would prefer that the town deny the second tower as it is completely unnecessary, if they end up building it, any damage they could do to us is already done, so I guess at this point, I just want them to go away. In this business there is no friendly competition.

Winter happened.
Welcome to Maine, where Cabin Fever is measured by not who has lost their minds, but how many of those in town are still somewhat sane.

It'll all be fine once the snow has melted and settled into Mud Season (Spring is merely a myth).
Relax and enjoy the ride.

Honestly my work happened, unfortunately the shop is not involved in any of what I am doing currently, so it is on the back burner. I still use the office and I have used the shop, but things have been basically the same, that is why I don't update. Once I get back into the swing of things, I will start posting again, I figured you guys didn't want to hear about planning board meetings, conservation committees, and all the other legal stuff that I am dealing with, especially since it has nothing to do with the shop at all.

These pictures were taken the other day, just after a buddy left, we had to quickly fabricate some aluminum braces to install his old boxes on his new truck.

This last week has been one of those eye opening times in life when you reassess things substantially. Well, I am finally realizing that my shop is not what makes me money, it is my office and brain type skills. I am going to revamp the office so that it is a better setup for me, I am also going to expand the storage space so that I can keep all things in one area. I have big dreams for the shop, but they are not in the cards right now and I am OK with that. Life is one of the many things that can change so quickly, if you can't adjust, you better get out of the way. I have never been one to shy from a challenge and this one may be my biggest challenge. I am going to clean up my project list, set aside some of the well documented/organized projects, and do away with a bunch of projects and supplies that have been haunting me for a long time. I hope to even finish a few projects, but none of this is a priority. I have too many irons in the fire and they are getting jumbled into a big mess, this is going to destroy me if I don't take care of it soon. I will post updates as I make progress, but to start with, it may be hard to even see any progress as the office is a small space.

Seems like another crossroads has been reached. Good for you for being able to see the forest and the trees. Sometimes that realization is right there, just beyond the edge of the nose, but out of focus. All it takes is a moments observation and then you're off to see the wizard!

Stay the course!

I plan on it. A few years back was the start of my journey, this is a refinement of that journey. It has taken a lot of time to understand how I tick, now I am trying to work around some of my quirks in order to make things better for myself. One thing I can say for sure is that shortly after the first chapter of my journey began (at least on GJ), I have not once felt like my shop was a warehouse. Prior to that, there was more warehouse than shop. Long term goals are driving my current decision and I think it is the best way to proceed.

Been reading this thread and I love the character that is being displayed by everyone in this community. I found the site looking for deals at HomeDepot but this is my first of many posts here. Thanks, Strouty for all the shares.

I wish I had more to share right now, still busy with a big tower project and have not had much time for the shop.

Back in January I started dismantling my office to get it setup better, then stopped, so now my office is in a shambles and I have been using my home office space (desk with computer). It is so frustrating knowing that my projects are not as important as the one I am working on as a paid contributor. The good thing is that next weekend the time swap will offer more daylight when it counts and I should start to have a lull in the bigger project, at least on the mental side, the physical side will pick up as we are actually starting to do the site work in preparation for the tower. :willy_nil

I will show you what I have been doing, of course this is for my home office and not the shop, but I was working on it "in" the shop. Work in progress, more sanding, the test stain went well, so once the prep is done I should be able to stain it and seal it. At this rate I should have it ready by April. [emoji6]

It will definitely be different, I am looking forward to getting it done. I have meetings tonight and tomorrow night and then there is a snow storm rolling in on Wednesday night, not sure when I will be able to get started again. I do have all the supplies to finish it, that took a few trips to a few stores and some amazon shopping as well.

I spent a few hours of quality shop time, I should be there all weekend too. I hope to get a good jump on cleaning out the cobwebs that I sometimes call projects.

Ripping out the desk and reworking outlets now, made a really big mess. Moved the newest Lista into the office, should be much better than the previous shelving unit.

All the counter top pieces have been cut down to size, my GF is coming over tomorrow to help sand and seal those. The patch is in place and first coat of mud is on. I moved my key lock box back to where it was years ago, I hated having it in my office, I don’t know why I ever moved it there. I still need to figure out what I am doing for a printer stand, it will most likely be custom as the shredder needs to go underneath it. I have a slight feeling of progress, I am going to start cleaning up a few more things, hopefully that will help.

Atari 2600 Berzerk.

I am now doing a temporary assembly of the office to see how things fit, unfortunately it is not working as well as I want. Trying to keep the printer close by is making things tight. It is doable, but I hoped to have more room so someone could sit next to me if needed, that is not happening.

Thanks 1/2 cup, I haven’t been able to post as much lately, so I feel like I need to post some more pictures.

Berzerk was a great game, I am a big Atari 2600 fan.

I am playing around with a “not sure if it is stupid or not” idea. I have my credenza area and it gets used for assembling documents. I had originally wanted to move it over 15” in order to add one more cabinet of smaller drawers. After messing with it, I decided to put some of the drawer units under it, the only thing is that it will raise it up 6”. It doesn’t feel uncomfortable and I am really the only one using it. The counter height ends up just shy of 45”, here is a picture of it as I have set it up just to get a feel for things.

Adjustments still need to be made, but it looks pretty good to me. I will have to build some boxes to finish off the space between the drawers, but the extra storage space will be nice to have without taking up so much floor space.

I have had enough for one day. Here is where the mess is at. Should be able to make some room tomorrow, unfortunately I have to take everything back out of the office so I can work on the remaining outlets and drywall. At least I know where things are going now, having a plan is great!

Credenza idea is great. I often had to assemble binders and having a higher table would have been great. My office desk is 19 feet long in a huge U... sounds big but think about it... 7 feet, 4 feet, 8 feet... When I say it's a 19 foot long desk... they think it's huge... but it gets covered quickly. I would love to have as much "free space" as you have... I could spread out and fill that building... I'm cramped into a room 12 x 12 and a slightly oversized 2 car garage.

My back and I have had a discussion and my back says that I did too much yesterday. I guess I will be taking it easier today. My GF is headed over so we can sand and finish some countertops, I guess that is about all I will be doing today. At least I have the room to accomplish this, last week there really wasn’t enough room. Once that is done, all I have to do is empty the office, that’s all, just empty it, take everything out, yup, that’s it.

My back and I had another discussion, I promised to only use forklifts to pick thing if it would let me get a few more things done. Moved the water tank outside, next I am dragging the suburban out, with the forklift of course.

Strouty, you might as well sell off that multi-head drill press to get some more room. They are not much more than space consumers other than for production work, in my opinion.

That thought has crossed my mind, but I can’t bring myself to unloading it yet. I like the idea of it and it really doesn’t take up much more space than two drill presses with a reasonable amount of space between them. I also know that is a total irrational rationalization. What I really should do is scrap the thing and forget about it.
