Ebay had another 15% off code, so I bought a bunch of ER collets with some adapters. Got both R8 and 5C both in ER32 and ER40 sizes. They I bought one set of ER32 metric collets, figure it would be smart to have them. Since my lathe has a 5C collet closer, I figured it would be worth it to have them as work holders, plus I bought a set of square and hex 5C collet blocks. Also found a deal on a MT2 adapter with a 14N jacobs chuck.

I am not really sure what I am doing, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night!

Will be headed to the shop today, not sure what if anything is on the docket, have to play it by ear.

I made it to the shop around 5:30, had to load up a few things and grab the trailer so I can move a snowblower and lawnmower tomorrow. I just inflated the tires in the suburbans, they were both a bit lower than they should have been, I put 70 PSI in all of them, probably ride like a buck board now.

I need to change some bulbs for the blinker on the black burb, so I thought I might as well add the new light housings, I changed the headlights a while back and they look great, this should really make the front of the truck look like new now.

I am putting one coat of waterlox on the butcher block top before I head out, I need to do this, it has to be done!

I was excited, got the first coat on the bottom done.

Then tried to flip it over, guess I am starting back at square one. At least it wasn’t the part I fixed.

Glued and clamped it before I left, hopefully get it sanded, again, tomorrow afternoon. At this point I am thinking that July 4th May be the day I celebrate my Independence and just stay at the shop all day.

Kind of looks like I am making a foosball table.

I am not sure it will happen today, I have some things to do first thing this morning that involve a bunch of junk (not mine), a trailer, and a snowblower just for good measure.

Nice score. Need the same stuff for my shop. Good to see you are adding tools for your shop.

Thanks ODIS, hopefully these will help me start using the lathe and mill. I have the perfect first project and will need both machines for it. I want to make some lathe key chucks, I need a couple and figured this would be the best way to start out.

I don’t expect to see these new items until next week, but some may arrive sooner. Either way I need to get cracking and setup the lathe. The mill needs to be trammed in as well.

I have been seriously neglecting the shop. This is the first time I have been here since the fiasco with the butcher block.

At this point, I have sanded the top again, wetted it down, now waiting for it to dry. I sure hope that getting over the hump on this project motivates me a bit. Life is absolutely getting me down, my father is a royal PITA, he keeps going in circles, but at least I know where I get it from.

I want to fill the dumpster with random things that are in my way, but I don’t have the strength to do it. Baby steps once again.

One coat done, now I need to head out to do some errands, I should be able to get the other side done and then flip it back over for the next coat this afternoon.

I also started going through my new milking supplies and found that some of the ER collet holders are messed up, gotta love China quality control, so far 50% success rate.

Supply run was a success, lunch and then to the shop again. Once I get a coat on the bottom, i am thinking of installing the top and doing final coats with it in place. Will see how that works.

Hope you at least had an enjoyable 4th...

And I'm in the same boat with not getting $h!t done in the shop/garage... It's been way too hot. Today it's finally in the mid-80s with low humidity. It's been in the 90s to upper 90s the past month with heat indexes well over 100. And today, with the lower temp... I've been down for the morning with a whopper headache.

My Fourth was uneventful, didn’t even watch the fireworks. Last Sunday I helped move stuff at the MIL’s house and got a wicked rash from the brown tail moth caterpillars, it is like poison ivy to me and it itches like crazy. I still have a few that are driving me mad, but it has calmed down for now. I don’t want to go back there, all I did was move stuff from the garage to my truck, less than an hour at the place. They want me to clear out a few trees, but I think I am going to pass.

So, I hope yours was better than mine.

Got the bottom coated and the butcher block top flipped, second coated the top and will be removing the stainless top from the Lista next. Need to make a wall bracket to support the other end of the top, then tomorrow I should be able to put it in place.

As much as I want to use my RC stuff, some of it is going to be sold, prices on eBay are crazy for some of the stuff that I have. I figure I can unload the stuff that I am not really using and pay for any new stuff plus have a pretty good surplus for another project.

Just to give you an idea, these decals sell for about $125 each set on eBay.

Send me a PM with some of the RC vehicles you're thinking about parting with. Any radios too...

Yeah, I'd be selling those Tamiya NOS decals.

We had a nice Fourth. Got to visit with some old friends we hadn't seen in months and enjoy the fireworks in Evansville. It was hot and muggy, but not as bad as it had been the week earlier. Other than that I've just been busy at work and we're slowly getting landscaping work done at the house. I really need to move some stuff out of the garage and hang the plywood on a couple areas of the walls, but the heat just kills me and when it cools off any it rains. It's been a very frustrating loop.

Most of the stuff that I am getting rid of is just parts, but they are the hard to find ones. I used to buy lots and break them up, resell some and keep what I wanted. I also have way too much Atari 2600 and NES stuff. I want to do some sort of art piece with the video games as most are not worth the hassle of selling.

Talk about feeling dumb, I have been ordering Morse taper number 2 parts for my lathe, it is MT3, I am glad I only ordered two things so far. Best part is there are tons more adapters for MT3 versus MT2, so it actually makes me feel better. I think the drill press is MT2, so they won’t go to waste, still makes me feel dumb as the live center says MT3 on it.

I will have to figure out how to get the chuck off the lathe next, good news is I found the key to it.

Post up a photo of the chuck where it mounts to the lathe headstock.

What kind of lathe do you have again? I can't remember.

Lathe is a southbend model fourteen. I have another three jaw that I think came from the spare lathe. Looks like pins with half moons.

I don’t have the proper size square stock, my plan was to make it with the new tooling I just got. I won’t be tackling it today, but I need to figure out what the mount is so I can start looking for a four jaw chuck. I also wanted to be able to setup my 5c collet closet since I bought some nice ER adapters.

WWN, looks like that is what the other chuck is, so it may be. I don't really have a clue though.

86, let me know what you are after, I probably have it.

Tomorrow I will need to measure the lathe, looks like these lathes came with both D1-3 and D1-4 setups on the headstock. I know what measurements I am looking for and based on my recollection, I would say that it is going to be a D1-4. I think I would prefer that over a 3 anyways, but I am not really sure why I am saying that as I didn't even know what either of them was until an hour ago.

The other thing I need to figure out is if I should upgrade to a CXA tool post or just stay with the BXA. I can see advantages with both, but for now I guess I just need to use the damn thing, after I level it up of course.
