Sorry to hear it on the Ford's. They've always been good to me. For me it was the Chevy's always leaving me stranded.

I know more about the Chevys than the Fords, so I am more comfortable when there is an issue.

Take a small hammer and rap the starter lightly. It may engage it to move it out of your way.

I was going to do that, but it is in a crazy spot, I had already wasted too much time on it making sure there was juice. I will deal with it another day. I am almost thinking there is an issue deeper than the starter, seems weird that it would work fine, then 10 minutes later it won't engage at all.

Maybe I should quit while I am ahead???

There is no such thing as small victories... only small celebrations! Awesome productivity and priceless education. Thanks, for sharing it all!

I am seriously thinking about unloading everything, then going south and buying a couple decent vehicles. I have been toying with doing this for a while. I have no problem working on used vehicles, but I hate rust and it is very rustrating. ;)

There's a massive regularly scheduled auction down in PA just north of Harrisburg that I pass by one or 2 times a year. It was for dealers only but I went by last week and there were signs stating public auction. Not completely out of the "salt zone" but they may only have half a dozen salting events where we have half a dozen salting months! I need to google around for some info on that place.
Merry Christmas everyone:thumbup:

My GJSS got me a bunch of useful stuff, also got me some tasty popcorn, how tasty you ask? Tasty enough that I ordered some from Ohio to be shipped to me.

That is totally Tampa flavor.

This morning my back is almost in spasm, I can’t take a deep breath without having to exhale super quickly in a bit of pain. I am going to move around a bit, but I don’t think I am going to get much done at the shop today, even if it calms down, I know overdoing it will just bring it back. :(

I think a hot shower is in order, then maybe a heating pack. The funny part is the rest of my back is fine, no joint pain or stuck hips, just the damn muscles. I will have to see if my chiropractor is open, he can zap me to get things calmed down if I can’t do it on my own.

I have not tried one, but I know what they are. Might be worth another look, that is essentially what the chiropractor uses, except his is a bit more industrial.

Heat had already exacerbate the issue for me. It seams to make the nerves more sensitive. If I don't have meds to handle the twitching I go with ice packs.

It all depends on what is bugging me, ice helps for certain things, heat helps when it is just muscles, drugs always help. Heck, if it is really bad, a few drinks will settle it down.

Went to buy a car today for the GF, same as her other one, except 73k miles instead of 273k miles, makes a ton of difference on a 13 year old car. Great service history and pretty good condition, needs some cleaning as the previous owner definitely had a dog that rode in the back of the car. Already put 100 miles on it and she is very happy.

No RC stuff for Christmas, but I never really asked for anything. I will say that my Xmaxx is getting no use as of yet, so I need to start using it again. Ihave been swamped with tower stuff and holidays. Now the physical tower stuff is done, but I have plenty of paperwork to do.

Car Gurus, they let you sort by mileage, that was the best way, I just put 2005 to 2007, then searched for under 90k miles, it was the best way to search. I spent hours searching the inter webs, then five minutes with car gurus and we were on our way to test drive the car.

Back is better, but not great.

Wallet hurts, $380 for two starters and core charges. At least I get those back. They had one listing for the F700 for the engine, a 429, but I am pretty sure I have a 370, don’t know enough about the ford engines, don’t really want to.

The F700 May be an oddball it is an LPG setup.

It is like a pond with a waterfall under the truck. So much for my nice weather. No easy way to get to the starter either, need to crawl under the truck about 5, behind the cab, then weasel my way up to the starter, from there it looks like I can maybe get to the bolts, but not the wires, hope they are long enough to get it down a ways. At this point, I am thinking I may jack it up and remove the passenger side wheel, seems like it will be easier since I am alone.

So I ended up being able to jack it up enough to turn the wheels so I can get at it from the front, will need to remove a heat shield for access and man are there some toasted wires in there. Might be a rewire on that side of the truck, also the starter has a solenoid and there is a solenoid on the firewall, WTF Ford, one or the other, not both! Once I get it out, I can bench test it and then verify if I even have the proper starter. The F350 is actually easier to get at, but has the same pond issues. This one is blocking the main door, so I have to get it going or drag it out of the way.

Man, this just *****, need to be a combination amphibian contortionist to get the top bolt. I am soaked now, my back is all tweaked, and the only thing starting is the temperature dropping. One more shot and then I am done, socket keeps slipping off bolt, so I am trying one of my grabby sockets. I hope it works, this thing is ruining me. I did confirm power and no go for the starter, slamming the silenoid did no good, so I think removal and bench test is my only alternative.

It is the same starter, the bolt was just in a very awkward place, exacerbated by the fact that I was essentially laying on an ice cold slip and slide. I got the thing swapped, the truck starts, and as a bonus, it fits in my shop as is, so no having to lay the boom out, just need to make sure the door is all the way up.

Of course I ran out of propane as I was parking it, fingers crossed it will start again after I change tanks.

The other good thing is the new starter cranks much faster, so it starts better too.

Tomorrow I might try changing the F350 starter, depends on how cold it is going to be. Worst case, I can remove the plow and push that one inside, but I don’t think it is just the starter, I think there is fuel or spark issues. The starter gave up the ghost due to the amount of no start cranking I was doing.
