Going to be back to mud tomorrow, I am pulling out trucks and shuffling things around, had to fix a snow bank with the Mitsu, that will save me a lot of grief when plowing the next storm.

It is almost mud already, thermometer says 56 degrees, but it feels even warmer.

I have a couple things I want to dig out, but I don’t know if I should. One is the J5 mini tank, the other is the skid winch. Both have stuck motors, might not be a bad thing to try and repair them at the same time? The J5 is probably the easiest and quickest to sell, so I will start with that, it will take up less room in the end too.

On another note, my buddy told me there was another Clark forklift, just like my outdoor one for sale, I may buy it as it is in much better shape and would be worth more when I am done. Mine would sell quick and then it would be like upgrading for a fee. I can rationalize anything, but this time it may just save me a lot of effort, should be going to look at it on Wednesday. The big issue is that it will need some work before I can sell mine, but it isn’t a terrible issue, so should be relatively painless, I will have to run new wiring and add lights to the new one, but in the end it would be worth it.

They haven’t helped me any. :(

The other forklift looks a lot better as far as the cab goes, especially the door and windows.

This is the bad part, it needs some new bearings, guy says he stopped using it when they fell apart, but my concern is there could be damage to the pins, they are part of a large cast and machined piece that would not be easy to replace.

Man, that propane powered knuckle boom needs some work, friggin stalled it trying to ease into the shop and it wouldn’t restart. Had to push it in with Clark, thankfully the Snap On guy was here and he helped me get it inside. It fits, but is tight.

Need to swap the starter out, the one I installed was the wrong one and it grinds a bit. It is supposed to rain in the morning, so now it will be nice and dry, I just hope it starts tomorrow when I am ready to pull it out.

Got the J5 dragged out and ready for a closer spot, this way when I have time, it will be close to the shop.

Chipped away some ice in front of the conex, but it is still tight.

Enjoy the thaw. We've got an ice storm on the way. They're predicting 0.25 to 0.75 IN of ice. If we get that much, i might be out of power for days.. I really need that detroit running.

I think the regulator??? Is jellied up with goo. What happens is if you stall it, it won’t restart for hours, I think this goo might make it either tough to get fuel, so when you try and restart it, it can’t. When shutting it down, I was told to rev it then turn off the key when it is still above idle RPM, that seems to keep it so it starts again, I will say I don’t understand the propane systems yet, so doing that could be doing nothing.

I should get my part numbers off the truck while it is warm out, then I can order the right parts.

Take the regulator apart and clean it. They aren't very complex I think. Impco right? I think I have one sitting around. It's yours if you need it.

I am not sure, but everyone says you want to replace the rubber valve flap thingy, so I am going to order some parts then tackle it. As you said, it doesn’t look complicated, just need some parts.

It is an impco system, going to get part numbers off it soon. Changing the starter inside went so much smoother, I am in about an hour and a half and that includes searching for some split loom and messing with the wiring harness that was inside the melted split loom. I still need to reinstall a heat shield, but it tested out perfect, no more grinding noises and it started fine. Next is to shuffle the J5 while I have the weather. Also need to put air in Clark’s tires, one is really squishy when you have a load on the forks.

This afternoon turned into a full change of plans, the backyard became a complete mud pit, so I decided not to continue with the outside stuff. I decided to take a look at the forklift instead, I also wanted to pick up my platform scale and then I bought a bunch of large C clamps. Going to eat dinner now and then head up to the forklift next, the guy has it inside, so I can get a good look at it.

C clamps have some welded tabs on them, but should be easy enough to clean up.

Scale has a ramp and digital readout.

The forklift doesn’t appear to be worth the effort or money, so Clark will be staying with me for a while.

The scale is very low to the ground, so low that I can’t get the forks out from under it. I guess I will need to make some risers for it. :(

Long day, so I am headed home now.

See if the guy with the other Clark will sell the cab and door... If it doesn't sell as a complete unit, you might be able to score the full cab from it.

I was thinking about giving him a lowball offer, so if he doesn't sell it, my offer stands, but there is a bunch of logistics and then the repairs. I think overall I could do the work to Clark and end up with a better forklift for the money.

Lista feet !!!

I have to have something stable and sturdy, the feet are connected to the load cells, at least that is the way I understand it. I will take a closer look at things later this week.

The scale will accept a pallet, I think it is 48” by 48” with a 5000 pound capacity. Plan is to use it for my shipping weights and whatever else I need to weigh. Before buying it, I checked with the manufacturer and I can store things on it, so it won’t be totally wasted floor space.

First thought on the scale capacity... it can weigh 2 or 3 of Tampa's little ladies at the same time. Been a while since I posted and I couldn't resist that one... carry on.

We had one at a chemical pilot plant I worked in... it was an annoying trip hazard 24/7... pick your place carefully.

I was even thinking of making a rack or shelving unit that fits on or over it perfectly, the. It wouldn’t be too intrusive, may end up making a shelf for it, then I could pull it down when needed, but I think it would be nice to have accessible. I don’t think I will be using the ramp, that would take up a ton of space.

Shelf idea is brilliant... Ours could have easily been waist high... we weighed barrels of chems carried by a forklift... Instead on the floor... several kicked it, fell... etc... Another place had one that was much higher... easy to see and maneuver around...

I definitely don’t want it to be in the way all the time. I also would like it to be high enough that I can move it with a pallet jack, having to get the forklift to move it all the time would ****.

I started going through my TIG pieces and parts, I honestly thought I had a lot more, but I can’t find it if I do. Looks like there is a bunch of CK brand parts and then there is a bunch of tungsten pieces, some new, lots used, but a bunch of different sizes.

I also bought a miller cooler, too good of a deal to pass up, assuming it arrives safely, hopefully have it next week. I really want to test out the push pull gun more than anything. I figure I will get an air cooled TIG torch and a water cooled one, the CK brands look nice, so most likely go that route, thanks for the info 86!

I found out what I need to get the propane F-700 running like new, the rebuild kits are cheap and the parts aren’t bad either. I can buy everything brand new for about $450 or I can rebuild for about $125. With time being the issue, I may buy the new parts and the rebuild kits, then if I get into a time crunch, I can swap out the parts. I have been toying with the idea of making Clark run on propane, not sure if I want to yet.

As many projects as you have, I'd buy the parts and then keep the rebuild kits in stock. Just slap the parts on and get the next project in. Save the old parts to rebuild later. Don't be that old guy with 4 projects in the barn and 7 in the driveway/yard. Oh wait, that's me. :lol_hitti

That was essentially my thought process, except I will attempt to rebuild them, but if I get stuck, the new parts will get used so I don’t have the truck stuck in the shop while I am waiting for parts to be delivered.

Whats the impco number on the vaporizer? i have no use for the one i have.

Looks like you have plenty of good tig parts! Looking forward to seeing your cooler! I bought the tank for mine today. I already have the pump.

I was thinking about building one, figured about $200 in parts, but a coolmate 4 popped up and I made an offer, so $380 delivered and I don't have to spend time that I don't really have building something that I can easily buy.

OK, what's the story on the J-5 tracked machine?

Stuck motor, need to get it freed up, then probably sell it. My brother and his buddy rebuilt it completely about 15 years ago (we used it in my Dad's business, so they were paid to do it), but it has seized from sitting. I think it will be fixable as the motor was rebuilt during the restoration.

TIG cooler has shipped, supposed to be here next Wednesday, fingers crossed it isn’t a dud of a deal, seller’s feedback looks good, but they sell “salvage”. From the pictures it looks new. I am going to start ordering my parts so I will have all the TIG torch setup for next week as well.

What motor is in the J5? IIRC the early ones had a Chrysler 225 Slant 6, and the later ones had the Ford 300 6.

I always wanted one of those, but don't have the money, space, or any real need for one. lol

This winter is extra ******. I hate snow, but I hate rain after snow much worse.

Testify. It's the same here. 50f yesterday. 25 today. 8 tonight. Ugh.

I got the shop cleaned up, conex door is frozen up like Fort Knox. :(

Welding widgets arrived, maybe I can test them out sometime in February.
