For the tools that I am bringing, I have cases that allow me to easily see if something is missing. Then my wrenches are in a wrench roll, this should cut down on any losses. I have used electrical tape for years, but I try not to do that with my “shop” tools, I do it on the “truck” tools, but I don’t have a truck anymore, so the tools are scattered everywhere.

Made it back no real issues, truck ran 67 at 2200 RPMs (governed there) got just over 7 MPG, frankly, better than I expected. I think once sixth gear is unlocked it will be more like 9 MPG and with some more tweaking, possibly a gear change, it will get 10. Will have to post pictures tomorrow, it was dark when we got back.

Well, I have great news, really great news!
I just got off the phone with Deb and she is the one that handles MSRPs for motor vehicle excise taxes. After a conversation with Deb, she has given me an MSRP of $62,150 on the new Pierce fire truck, the town told me it would be based on $450,000, now I can just register the fire truck and use it as it is, this makes my whole life 100% easier. I am really excited about this, you can probably tell from eh way I typed this.
I just need to figure out insurance, that shouldn't be too bad, but who knows, might be a punch in the balls.

That sounds great! And i was excited you were going to get 10mpg with the new truck, i think the tax info beats that!
I still need to jump through a few more hoops, but I think it is doable and looks like I can make things happen fairly quickly. Biggest issue I have is windshield is cracked and door window is broken, outside of door was damaged and will need to be fixed. I think I have all that figured out as well. Will have to post some pictures, remember, it needs a nose job, the thing is ugly as sin, at least the nose is.

Trying to figure out what to do, Pierce moved the hinges forward, so the fiberglass nose covers the hinges, then they have a ton of wiring that is behind the headlights, not sure it can actually be removed, I do think there will be a way to improve it and that is what my goal will be. Luckily you can't see it while driving the truck.
Once I get the insurance and registration figured out, I will start to try and knock the "fire truck" out of it. First order of business is the the lights and lettering, then the front bumper, so I can see what I am working with. I am also shortening it a bit and need to move the rear axle back, I wanted to do air ride, but I may leave the springs, this truck is so rugged that the air ride is not capable of handling the weight that the truck can handle. It has a GVW of 55k with the single rear axle. The frame is double, but also taller than most trucks, it will be interesting to see how things turn out, my fingers are crossed.

The worst part is that it has already grown on me a bit, I think a few changes will make it palatable. The stupid bumper is one thing that needs to go, then the red lights on the front, they look terrible. I think the grill is also part of the problem, might be able to modify it to fit something better. No matter what, I am going to live with it, the rest of the truck is awesome only thing that would make it better is if it had the raised rear cab, but it will be fine for my purposes. I think I can make it haul two or three people in the back, but easily convert it to a bed so I have a legal "sleeper", then DOT can't mess with me as much.

The insurance company will write the policy, but they have not given me a rate yet, will not have it until Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning, I won't have any fingernails left. I am trying to figure out logistics for what my plan of attack is, still need to finish swapping tires and rims around, still have quite a few to change.

Another "cool" thing is that AT&T is going to be taking down the old building and I am supposed to get the AC units, these ones are only a few years old, they even have the newest refrigerant. I can use one at this shop and one at my new shop, if I ever move. On that note, Dad and I have agreed that he will give two years maximum for the employee to move out of the house and shop, my Brother thinks with all the new rules he will abandon ship relatively quick. Fingers crossed!

Ocho Minus One is a monster. She’s got style. The lettering is the problem. Grill is fine. You can pull those red lights, but that will leave some odd space. Maybe switch out to clear lenses or some auxiliary work lights. That bumper is just too much. You must have some pto or hydraulic winch sitting around? Lose the chrome and bolt it in.
I’d go od green or a flat tan. It will never look right. Only the government, or Strouty, would make such a beast.

For the interior I’d grab some sweet conversion van matching captains chairs and the rear bench that folds into a bed. Cooler for beer and your done. I’m liking OMO!
OMO is going to get the full treatment. For the exterior, I thought about sandblasting the paint off and letting the aluminum oxidize, it wouldn't be shiny and wouldn't rust.
I am not sure what those red lights above the grill will look like removed, but I don't think I want to replace them, I am not too concerned with fixing holes and I think there will only be a couple small holes for the wiring to go through. I have a buddy that has done a bunch of custom fiberglass work on a Mustang, I figure he may have some ideas too, I am also not totally opposed to remaking things out of aluminum, I can't imagine I could make it look any worse.

I like the idea of replacing the red lights with clear halogen work lights.
It may help visibility on the worksite when the sun goes down early in the winter.
Paint - I like the blue on the frame of the other truck, but it might be a bit much on the whole truck.

You can probably get clear lenses for those red lights. You'd have to research a bit to find the manufacturer.
I agree that you should be able to find clear lenses for those red lights. My brother bought an old Yarmouth Ambulance and used that for a number of years as his work truck. He bought lenses to replaces the red and I believe the idea was to use them as work lights. - more importantly he didn't just have holes where the lights were.
I’m laughing about the ugly comments.. the FD next to ours has one and we still think it’s ugly!
The red lights look like strobe heads; if the power pack still works you could install yellow. Some trucks have the bumper as just a frame extension so you might luck out.. just will need a new spot for the air horns. It probably pretty beefy; you could probably keep chains in it if you get a lid built.. that’s we’re we kept them on our old rescue truck.

I am really more interested in removing them than reusing them, I guess it depends on what it looks like with them removed. They could be reused, but I am pretty sure they are a strobe type light designed to blink, not be used for illumination. Some of the light wiring has been disconnected and I have not had a chance to figure things out yet. I know there is a TON of wiring that will need to be carefully removed (read as extricated) from the chassis, I figured I would have a couple days into the wiring at a minimum. Basically I want to remove everything I can without disrupting the truck's actual operation. Pierce has a control box that has LED lights that tell you if something is working or not, the wiring schematic is insane. Hopefully I can simplify things, most of the stuff has to do with the lights and the pump and I won't be utilizing any of that stuff.

I agree. Most of the gold lettering on fire engines is gold leaf. One of the few traditions that has continued despite cost saving pressures.
