Fingers crossed that today goes better than yesterday.

The plan is to setup at least one arm of the welding fume extractor and to get the pallet racking assembled, if I can get those two things done, that will make me feel much better. Also hope the ford will start.

I will post a few pictures, today has gone a bit sideways, but not as bad as yesterday. The pallet racking is pretty crappy, braces cut and welded, a few bent parts, basically I didn't want to even install it, but I had to keep reminding myself that it is just temporary. Then we got the big fume extractor arm up, setup to install the other smaller arm and found out it is the wrong one, direction of the output was the same as the larger one so it wouldn't hook up to the filter. Also I can't find the bracket that holds the filter, so I am at a stand still, again.

I am welding tomorrow, but my point was, the only two projects I wanted to accomplish today were to hang the fume extractor arms/filter and get the pallet racking up, only got part of it done and that to me is a stand still, especially since I had help and he had to leave, so I can’t get that time back. :(

I have to figure out where the other arm is, I bought four and sold two to my Dad, I know where one is, but it is the other long one and I did not want to take that one since the one I have to swap is a short one. Also I need the long one that I have because of the location, if I swapped it for the other one, it would be in the wrong place and that would ****.

Anyways, I transported the Virginia burb to temporary storage, then probably next week it looks like I will get it shrink wrapped, then it can sit outside and I won’t have as much to worry about.

I figure tomorrow I should have the correct fume extractor arm, then I can get the filter and the other arm hung up, still have to wire it, but it can run off an extension cord for the time being. I still have to either find the bracket for the filter or make one. Oh well.

The racking isn’t terrible, just not what I thought I bought, you know when you look at it, everything is fine, then when you start putting it together, all the ugliness shows up.

Got the fume extractor setup and working, 100 times better than before, still have a bit of a haze around the ceiling, but nothing like the cloud cover from before.

My brother and I are fabricating some of the structural upgrade parts for one of our towers. It was nice to have a decent space opened up, the longer rods are 20 feet long.

It worked fairly well, I need to setup the welders a bit better, nothing has a home and it makes setup a pain. The more I use the space, the better I understand how I need it setup, as always, it is a work in progress.

Plan for today is weather dependent, if dry enough, I will be outside getting the two truck frames dismantled, if too wet, I will work inside cleaning things up more. Either way it will be furthering the overall goal and that is a win win situation.

Got one chassis cut up, still dealing with multiple cleanup processes. Can’t do anything in a straight line, everything needs something else done before I can finish the first thing.

Then I bought a 1942 dodge power wagon. (Maybe)

I guess I am not cleaning things up as well as I thought.

Need to spend the afternoon getting things ready for tomorrow, supposed to have help.

So . . . did you get the Power Wagon?

I forgot to mention that I have been hatching monarch butterflies, a couple chrysalis were attached to a dump body I had to move, so I removed them and hung them from test leads with alligator clips over a plant. Yesterday the first one hatched and I brought it outside, it flew away, today the second one didn't like the temps and wind, so it is still inside. Looks like I may have to babysit until Sunday when the weather is better. I took them inside before we had a couple nights that made ice on the standing water, glad that they hatched, but I think someones clock is off, can't imagine wanting to start flying to Mexico in October.

I also got the fifth wheel slid to the end, but the air cylinder won't release, it is halfway, so I don't know if it will lock, looks like I need another cylinder. I should have just bought a new one when I bought the air lines, I even thought about it, but didn't do it. If I can get the trailer hooked up and moved in the yard, it will be good enough for now, then I can remove the cylinder and get a new one. If it isn't one thing, it is always two others......

I did load up the scrap today, probably won't take it for a while, I know I am going to have more and I would prefer to not have multiple trips unless due to bulk.

Fifth wheel staid put, now let’s see if we can lift the body so I can get it mobile and out of the way.

That went better than I thought. Only issue is a flat tire on the trailer, not sure I care, if I keep the trailer, I will put a better axle under it anyways. Damn thing could end up being a great purchase, only time will tell.

Two things...
1. I had a cat... whose name was Timber... because he had a bad hip... couldn't lay down normally... so he just "Fell Over"... so anyway... we liked bringing him outside so he could sun himself... he ate a butterfly once... looked at the Mrs and I... with the look "that did NOT taste like butter"...

2. I hatch pray mantis by the hundreds. Only a dozen or so survive to 8" or more but it is cool.

I bow to your karma effort...

Today is the auction, hopefully I will be good, I really don’t want to bring more stuff home, there are a couple things that I am looking at, probably won’t be able to justify them unless I can get them dirt cheap.

Remember, it's not just the purchase price at auction that is the full price... You need to factor in the time to haul it home and make any repairs or upgrades necessary for said item to be functional. Your time is worth something!! Factor it at the going rate of what you bill a customer..... you do bill them at some point for your time, right?

I work for food.

;)

Luckily I am not looking at things that need repairs, there is some rigging items, traffic cones, and a few spool thingys that I am interested in. I just figure today is wasted anyways. At least I get to talk with some of my “auction buddies”.

I didn’t get the traffic cones I wanted, but I did buy the ones no one else wanted. ;) They were shorter 12” cones, over 300 of them, I paid $46 with fees. The reel thingys were $100, but they came with a really cool hammer, I think it is either copper or brass. Then I bought almost 80 swivel hoist rings, I have wanted some sets for a while, now I will never need another one. Plan is to sell some to pay for the ones I keep, they were cheap, but only due to buying in bulk. Normally they sell for a bit over a hundred for the small ones to about four hundred for the large ones, I paid less than $20 each. Then I bought the bins they were in, three of them are nice stacking ones, one is an odd unit that stacks, but not correctly. In the end I spent more than I wanted, but it will be worth it when I get done.

Are you sure that the hammer is brass or copper ?
It may be Beryllium Copper. If so, it should be stamped “BeCu” somewhere.
Beryllium copper is a non-sparking alloy that’s good for using near electricity or around gas fumes. It is also known to be toxic. So wear gloves and don’t breathe any dust from it.

I have it on good authority that butterflies taste nasty, and the flavor stays a while. My neighbor's daughter ate one, and even whiskey n stinky cheese tasted good after the butterfly.

I didn’t see anything like that stamped in it, it was stamped TEMCO, I think.
