So you are taking the things out of "earthquake" and putting them in "new conex"?

Good for you Strouty, getting things done.

A few things are moving, but only to put like with like. Things from inside the shop are going into the new conex as are other things strewn about. Trying to clean up the mess in front of both boxes right now, just pulled the truck tires out of Bev to make room for all the tower related stuff.

I don't think I understand "give up", but in a really idiotic way. I just moved it, it will stay inside, still planning on fixing it, or at least the parts I know are bad. I still haven't finished my water cooler "upgrade" (should have left it alone :( ), typical Strouty action........

I ran out of daylight, but I have a headlamp, so still shuffling things. I am about to put the big drill press outside, don't judge me, I have spoken to lots of people, no one wants the thing. I don't plan on getting rid of it, but it has to go outside, I can't have it taking up space any longer. Before I bought it, the guy had it outside for weeks, so I can blame any defects on him.

Shop is looking spacious, once I get a few more things done outside, I will try and adjust the **** on the pallet racking to make it fit better, should be able to get three pallets on each level, not two. I figure I will still have a couple more things to move tomorrow, then the front yard will be handled Friday and Saturday.

I had to eat something, now I feel like I hit a wall, then I realized that I left my house 12 hours ago and have been working for 11 hours now. I have just a couple more things to do, then I am going home, need to get an early start tomorrow too.

One foot out the door....

I can't recall the last time I saw so much floor!

That drill press is something, if that's what is in front of your day....

Glad that you got some stuff done!

There is more now.

1c4a4eaf5eeeae1667533e8ee26a9b63.jpg872b95ca3149af6c719a3de929802413.jpgd04889fe220bb840314e8e40af8f13c3.jpgc9cea7a54d759620fd07f1b0f20f1f9a.jpg6da49b033e3b25b510e3dae18515df72.jpg

I am about out of here, just finished moving the rotary phase converter to the back of the OGMC, I am trying to be optimistic and positive about the Hill, I figure if things work out, I may still start moving things up there this year, just things that don't matter. I have a smaller rotary phase converter setup at SG, so the big one makes more sense to wire up at the Hill rather than doing it twice. We will see, the big meeting is the week of the ninth, so two weeks and I should have a better handle on things. Fingers crossed, but at this point I am ready for it to go either way.

Strouty is that the drill press by the overhead door in the last photo? I know you need room, but it would be a shame to sit it outside in the weather.

Looking good Strouty, it’s always amazing to expose flat concrete like it’s some treasure! I’m doing the same right now

It is outside now, will do a decent covering tomorrow after I get it sprayed down with WD40 and some other stuff. I do not think it will hurt anything, at least not anymore than it was already hurt when the previous owner put it outside for a few weeks.

I am really leaving now, really.

Rain supposed to hit here today and progressively get worse over tomorrow.

Started raining around 19:00 here 50 miles north of you; my garage workshop rehab exterior (new roof, siding, windows, door) contractor has worked exactly one day in three weeks, worked two guys yesterday, blew off today. Probably will be hanging steel in the snow next week..

Strouty, I'm using you and others as inspiration/momentum to work on the interior. Man is it hard to part with scrap steel, old electronics, wood and the rest of 40 years in the same shop. After I get that done, I've got an electronics shop in the basement that's getting the same cleanout (know anyone that wants a 1967 Browning Eagle CB LOL).

It is hard to get rid of things, I am getting better, but I keep culling the junk and then you are trying to decide about tossing good stuff. I scrapped some brand new electrical supplies, don’t know what they are, don’t care, they are out of the way. I would have junked a few more things, but the dumpster is full, need to get that emptied next week. Also should take my scrap in and get my $10. :(

Scrapped a van I had used as storage 3 weeks ago. Got $50.
I heave a big sigh of relief every time I go by where it was sitting.

I can totally relate to that feeling. I think I will have it with the drill press.

Had to leave even earlier today, GF needed to be out at 6:30, so I had to be in the bathroom by 4:30. :( I brought home gas and diesel cans to fill up and now I am getting breakfast. Looks like I have until about 3PM before the rain starts, should be good to go.

Reviewing yesterday's list, I did only four things out of the 25 or so I had written down. Even though I did much more, feels like a fail after reading it. :( I know it isn't but, still feels like it.

I am going to start working on removing the two 6.5 diesel engines, bought some carts for them so I should be able to stuff them out in the new conex easy enough. Then I will get started on the pallet racking, get that cleaned up and organized. I am leaning towards keeping full access to it so I can get the forklift in at anytime, just need to see if the footprint will work, right now I have part of it blocked because of the sandblast cabinet, if I put it on wheels, then it wouldn't matter, but for now it is stationary more or less.

If someone paid what I have into any of my trucks, that would be motivation.

I got one engine off the stand and the cradle bolted to it, cheap things, but work well, except when they don't spent an extra 15 minutes fixing some threads on the Chinesium parts. It rolls well, bought five of them due to shipping discount, will use them all eventually, but for now these first two are most important. Reminded me that I have to get the big engine stand's jack fixed as well as see if I actually have the adapter to hold detroit engines. I know I have a few adapters, not looking forward to buying one if I don't have it, if I had more time, I would make one, no way I will have extra time for a while though.

I try to be a realist, not an optimist, or a pessimist. Yeah, I didn't get much on my list done, but it was a good day. And I adjust my list everyday. Track it in Excel. Thinfg is HUGE. Keep up the good work.

It has been a long time since I have messed with one of these engines, glad I started with the parts one first, I just put the 3/8 - 16 bolts into M10 x 1.5 threaded holes, figured it was just grime slowing me down, turns out after about 1/2" of threads, things get funky. Had to dig out a bunch of bolts, but I got the good engine all situated with the proper bolts.

Hadn’t seen this engine in a while, six layers on top.

I try to keep two lists for my workshop. One that's a higher level and one that's really detailed and it's been working for me.

For example, if I was going to build a dresser instead of having build drawers on the detailed list it would say, cut drawer sides, cut drawer front/back, assemble, cut bottom, install bottom, etc. etc.

It really helps when I might only get 15-30 minutes in the shop at a time, sometimes days/weeks apart. That way I can pick up where I left off quickly and feel accomplished that I crossed off 2 things even if the whole drawer isn't done. I also find it helps me manage my time expectations and keep from putting stuff in my way as I'm moving about.

I think what Legend said is where my issue is, I will paraphrase it "all issues revolve around managing my own time expectations". Many days I have gone home mad about not getting something done, in reality, a team of people wouldn't have been able to pull it off in the same amount of time, but I tend not to live in reality most of the time.

Like right now, the pallets are so tight that I can't fit three at a time without spend 30 minutes shuffling them (already tried, still off by 3/4"), yet I could probably have the side shift working on the forklift in a day, it has been that way for years, just starring at me......

My point to this is, after being defeated by 3/4" of space, I started thinking of making custom sized aluminum pallets, that was my solution, to not making the side shift work on the forklift. :(

Another excuse, I may have found the perfect sized pallet to fit in the middle of the two plastic ones. Either way, the side shift is going on the list. The one outside that leaks oil like niagara falls has side shift, still need to swap the batteries, depending on what happens with the Hill, that forklift may get repaired rather than sold, I would need one at both locations anyways. So possibly, my delay has actually helped me out?? Go figure. :headscrat

I am trying to figure out my layout for the inside, almost seems like I have less room after taking lots of things outside. Still have these things to take to the conex, will be all I get done this afternoon, regroup on Friday for the outside stuff. At least I will have decent time to work on the inside. Still need to try the funky pallets and see if they will fit int he middle, fingers crossed on that for sure.

You are not unique Strouty... I live with Rocket Scientist Level Tetris too (RSLT). You are lucky with the forklifts so you can add a side of Jenga to it.

Every day you walk in move something... paint something... alter something in any way. You have accomplished something. I was a project manager in life and was paid to sit at a desk and think... I used to lean back in my chair and I some would have thought I was sleeping with my eyes open and my hand moving my mouse on the screen.

People who didn't know might have thought... he doesn't do nothin... but managing projects is serious work. Take credit for what you're doing Stro... It's a doin sometin… as my grandma would say.

Need to cut up some more plywood to put on the shelving, for now the rest of the stuff will need to stay on the floor, too heavy with a small footprint, the plywood distributes the weight very well.

Loading up the conex and probably the mud has made the doors not close, so I will have to do some jacking to get the twists out. Will have to do that another time, don’t think I have enough ambition today, heck, I am running on empty now.

Which is why I started writing things out in so much detail. Again, since I only get small blocks, it's nice to know what the next step is. If I'm able to walk downstairs for 5 minutes I can get things ready for the next part of the process. I like being able to see what I actually got done even if it's not the whole project.

Before this I would write down "build dresser" come up with a wild *** guess how long it would take and then quadruple it.

I started to do that with a computer program, it got overwhelming really quick, I may have to take another crack at it. When I look at how much stuff I have, I still don't really know where it all came from, hard to believe I brought it all here. The stuff definitely owns me right now. Moving to the Hill could make things better, or they could make things worse. I feel that I have a handle on what I want to do, I have been moving forwards and backwards, lately the cleaning aspects have been forward progress, that is the direction I want to keep it. Next will be the trucks, starting to actually build one should allow me to trash others, right now most truck has two or more parts trucks waiting in the wings. I will say that I understand I am at my project limit with the trucks and I have been figuring out what is going where, the curve balls have been big, but I guess that is how it goes with the bigger toys.

Dang i need a forklift. Your adventures prove that to me.

When it comes to extracting yourself from the mess you are in, i think it boils down to sheer determination. I determined not to take on more projects and even to get rid of some. You HAVE to be solid on that. Projects will always outnumber time to complete them. Be choosy.

Well the rain has held off, have almost everything moved from the front yard as well as the shop. I still have the dump trailer out, but it will be needed for the rest of the scrap. Also have the suburban chassis waiting to come inside, then the other forklift, the water tank, and the snow plow. I still have to make some space inside and then I can put that stuff inside too. The list is getting shorter!

The engine stand will hold the big Diesel engines and it rotates too.

Rotary tables were bought before I got the CNC mill, almost don’t need them, but how often do you see big rotary tables. Might be able to make a weld positioned out of one.

Strouty how tall is that drill press? If those panels on your door are 2' each, that thing looks like it's 10' or better! I have a friend that's cheap, but has a hell of a machine shop that might be interested in it if your really almost to the scrap point of getting rid of it.
