Are you removing the whole mast cylinder on the forklift?

If you are, before you remove the forks, check the repair manual. When I did my triple stage mast on my smaller Clark, all I had to do was remove one set of chains, then run the cylinder up and the whole carriage drops out. Then back the machine away from the carriage and fork assembly.

Then it leaves it clear to get the mast cylinder out of the machine for new seals, etc.

FYI, I found that using a piece of PVC pipe (3" and 4") worked good as seal drivers. I slit it and warmed it up to be able to flex it to the various cylinder rod diameters.

Also, check the very bottom of the cylinder....on mine there is a block with four screws to hold the hydraulic hose manifold into the bottom of the cylinder.

A couple of good snap ring pliers also helps immensely on the cylinder repacking.

You are making good progress! Stay focused on the items that really need done. Keep them manageable and achievable....

Bimmer, I am taking it to get done, if I do it, it will never get done and cost twice as much. :) I will look at the manual though, I was thinking of removing the forks to get more working space in the shop.

Pines, yes windows, door, electric fan, and the rest of the gauges installed. Also should really make up the custom lug nuts to hold the wheels in place, two of the rims have a flat surface, the other two are concave for the nuts, either way, the rims are not centered by the hub or the lugs and I would like to make the nuts do the work.

I am sure there are other things that will be added to the list, but that is it for now.

Tonight I found out I do not like the bobcat skid steer at all, I ended up with a nice one to shear on its back, luckily no one or thing got hurt, maybe my pride, but the foot controls for the bucket are counter intuitive to every piece of equipment I have operated. Basically, the forks were tilted a bit to far and it started sliding, I tried to counter it with the lever, this made the machine move, not the bucket, the quick movement made things worse and I couldn’t stop the momentum, so it tipped over. Between the lack of my skid steer skills and the fact that there was no light in the Quonset hut we gave up for the night. Will be regrouping tomorrow, going to attempt to get the used motor oil for the furnace all setup, then I won’t have the huge mess, plus I should be able to see the water in the tank and drain it off as needed.

Glad you didn't get hurt. There is a bit of a learning curve with everything. I am so used to running my Ford 1720 that when I get on a different tractor I am forever grabbing the wrong lever for something.

That is a great quote, but creates a bit of a conundrum. ;)

I will be looking over the bearings in Clark’s mast for sure, there are a couple oil leaks, the hydraulic filter needs to be replaced and the steering has some issues from time to time.

TOTO, those manuals are awesome, I have some in digital form, so I don’t technically need it, but shoot me a PM with a price and you never know.

Night guys.

Spent the morning getting the used motor oil mess cleaned up, need to drain the new tank, but the ice hasn’t melted totally yet. We moved all the extra pieces of sheet metal out to the truck body storage unit that was already here. Got to use Perk again to move the rear ended section outside, when I am ready for it, I can easily bring it back inside, no sense tripping over it in the meantime. Once we get things situated, storing the used oil won’t be as big of a deal, but it is a pain right now.

Forklifts are becoming an issue, the one in the Quonset hut is ******* oil out of one of the main lifting rams, the other ram looks like it isn’t far behind, my orange forklift the I brought to TH is leaking out of the front and rear, and Clark is bypassing the main lifting ram constantly lower without any help from the controls. I guess I need to get cracking on the repairs.

You and me both in seeing it buttoned up. The knuckle boom is very useful, this one has a winch too, that makes it even more useful to me. It will reach 31’ out and picks close to a ton out there. I still would like to have one that goes to 50’ or better, will be looking for newer ones at some point.

Once again, things may end up changing, OMO may still become parts, I just think I may be overreaching with what needs to be done, I am giving it some more time, maybe once things calm down with the family issues I will feel different. I also think that winter gets me in a bad mood all around. :(

It was actually fairly nice, especially when the sun was out. This evening was damp, so it made it feel much colder.

I started dismantling some of Dad’s storage, will try and finish that up tomorrow. I think I will be hauling two Lista cabinets to the Hill, should be enough room for what I have there, but won’t ruin the SG’s storage.

I am really confused. ;)

Been looking for a trailer for Perk, stumbles on a moving van trailer that was dirt cheap, talked to the owner and it is almost insane. The thing was essentially a tack shop on wheels. It has about 5000 miles on it and it has been inside for almost 20 years. Crappy part is where it is located, four hour drive one way, probably going to take a peek at it, make the deal, then pick it up in a few weeks.

4 hours would ( could) put you in PA where ther are some lista, vidmar and Lyons cabinets for sale. Seems like a very high price to me.

Squash, you are about two hours out of the way, the trailer is in Patterson, NY.

At $110 a drawer, those are pretty pricey, I usually like to be $50 or so, even that would have to be a really nice cabinet.

Yeah that outfit comes across some nice stuff but seems to be a little to proud of it. They don't have a website but I've always wanted to wander around their yard. I used to have a guy near by me that had a "yard" of mostly stuff from Grove crane. Cylinders, steel, hydraulic's, drive axles and all the support equipment to run the factory.
It was like an amusement park or museum to me. Half a day there was rushing it!

I am going to try and get the seller of the trailer to accept a cashiers check or USPS money orders, then I can go and pick it up in a few weeks. Should give me enough time to get the rear end in Perk swapped and the tilt telescoping column installed. Then I can drive 75 and reach the steering wheel without bashing my knees off the dash. Here is the trailer.

Yes, guy said as is, I am thinking clean storage for right this minute, but could be a really nice camper setup or portable store. Regardless of what I use it for, it is worth the trip and the $2k all day long. A conex is more than that, then I have no way to move it easily. It is essentially the same thing as the current one I have, except it is not all rusted, rotted, and falling apart. ;)

Comes with your own throne... cool... you can hire that guy that worked for your father as your "Jester"... and poke him with a stick.

You are now to be known as "Sir Strouty"... or do you prefer "Lord Strouty"? There are a few others I would suggest... but I have some sense of respect... little that it is.

Most people just call me A$$hole........

I am a bit too excited about this trailer, not really sure why. Anyways, I am about to head to the SG for the afternoon, need to go to Dad's place first to drop off some things from the Hill that I figure he could use.

Spent many years working out of the race car version a lot less wood. But resale is much higher$$

We had one of those come into work to do a job, lift capacity is 900 tons. 9 axles, counter weights came in on 3 semi trailers,....6 total semi trailers plus the mobile crane itself.

I don't think I would modify it at all, just use it as is for now. If I came up with another use, then I could modify it as needed, but it will be fine for what I am planning on using it for right now. In the end it could be gutted, but I am don't want to jump into anything. In the back of my head, I can see doing a bit of a refurbishment to it and selling to a small company that sells at fairs. Realistically, between the glass doors and the awning, I totally see camper, except it would be able to heal more weight than a standard unit.

Strouty this is your conscious speaking "I am going to try and not spend any money for a couple weeks, I will still be paying bills and normal things like food and fuel, but the plan is to attempt to finish some projects that I have already purchased parts for and get them out of the way. If I have to spend more it will only be to finish one of these projects, not a new one".

I got over excited getting Perk operational, like I told you guys, I wouldn't lie about anything. I really wanted to omit the tipping of the stomp shear too...... ;)

I am still on target financially.

I also bought some flaring tools, a reamer or two, and a new B&W turnover setup for Perk. I am also investigating the ISO shipping container cam locks for the bed modules that I will be making to go on the back of perk, thinking flatbed for certain, but the rest of the setups will depend on if I can figure out how to make the fifth wheel removable without increasing the height too much. If I can do that, then I will be able to make a dump body too.
