PelicanPines, he always has a chance!

I am just as bad, the wife. says the only reason only I wake up early on Saturday's is to pursue Duker's post in the Amazon Warehouse deals thread. I can't help myself.

I bet that trailer smells of horses and leather. Beval Ltd was a premier saddle and tack retailer out here in the horse country of the Somerset Hills of NJ.

They went out of business some time ago so this trailer might have changed hands several times before it comes to you.

Cheers

By the looks, I would imagine it would smell like leather more than the horses and my fingers are crossed on that. From what I understand, it has been inside a building for almost 20 years, it was recently hauled back from Kentucky, I am actually amazed that it wasn’t snatched up at the listed price, it is in great condition with minimal rust o a few locations underneath.

Brakes should be fine, air lines should be fine, tires are dry rotted for sure.

Office work this morning, then I am going to work on getting things cleaned up inside the shop at TH, I want to get cracking on Perk, need to use it to pick up the new trailer. I have been thinking about the rear air ride/rear end swap, in the interest of getting things done, I will keep the current rear, but I am going to change gears, will cost more, but in the end it will just work better. The rear I was going to swap in has a different style hub, so I would have different wheels front and rear, keeping the original rear eliminates that issue, plus I am pretty sure the air ride rear needs all new bushings and that takes time and money too.

Got one box loaded, cleaned out the other one, ready to load it. Also used the Milwaukee M18 transfer pump to empty the diesel tank, much better than doing it with the siphon I used last time around. Hopefully the seals hold up, it is going to be dedicated for diesel fuel at this point.

Got the new oil tank (tote) in place, drained the watery goo out of it, working on plumbing the furnace to it now, hopefully I can find fittings to make it work, if not it will screw me up a bit, because I am going to start putting oil in it tonight, no matter what, I need to get the space back that the oil barrels are taking up so I can start putting things away. It is like a gross, sticky maze walking around the 55 gallon drums.

The tote will hold about 5 barrels, I have about 15 total, but there is another 330 gallon tank up here waiting to be plumbed for used oil and I have the 500 gallon tank sitting at SG waiting for a home. Once I have a decent pump, the process will be a lot better. I need to either buy or make one with a filter system. The HF transfer pump they were using, works, but barely. They have a hose for the suction, so if it isn't positioned just right, it closes off. Honestly the employee seems to have done the very bare minimum to make things work, with his knowledge and skills, there should be a huge pump and tank with a drain trough, but he just kept doing it the stupid way, probably because he didn't care, he got paid by the hour. I should have it plumbed and ready to work by this weekend, I am going to make a top funnel and large strainer to put five gallon buckets and oil filters on top of the tank, allowing them to drain properly. Also thinking of enclosing the tank so sparks wouldn't damage the tank or start a fire, when I get done things will work and make more sense, everything will be easier to deal with and there won't be as big of a mess.

Pretty much.

Found another trailer tonight, won’t know if it is still available until tomorrow.

Also found some decent looking Lista cabinets.

I need to stop with that damn marketplace. :(

I got two of the 55 gallon drums into the tote, need to do something about the suction hose, it was collapsing pretty consistently. I did order a new 110 volt cheapo, seems to have decent reviews, can’t be any worse than the 12 volt one I am using now.

Sounds like good progress on your oil tank situation. Fortunately for me, All the deals I really want from CL, fleabay, or MP are usually gone or out of my price range when I see them.

Been messing with the furnace at the house this morning, keep getting an error, it has happened several times, but we can generally just reset it and it works, no it is not working at all. Really *****, had the furnace "professionally" serviced and they said it was the controller, replaced the controller and now we have had more problems than before. Two more paid service calls and they blame the power company. Pisses me off as I know it has nothing to do with that, just lazy on their part.

Yup, bad time. I think it is the cad cell, but I am not sure yet. May have to go and get some more tools and parts. I get it working, then it shuts back off, I know it fires, I am going to try cleaning the cad cell first. Wish me luck.

I have messed around, jumpering the T terminals gets full flame and no faults, so I am thinking it may be the nest thermostat. I know we had issues way back due to the lack of a C wire, but I used to get an error on the thermostat. I am going to run a dedicated power wire for the Nest and see if that helps. For right now, heat is on............

Just turned off, damn. :(

Back to messing with it.

Eliminate everything but your actual firing controls and see if that fixes it. Then you'll know if your cad cell is bad.

Pines, you just made my entire day, justified purchase! :)

86, I have eliminated the thermostat, then I have been watching things, seems the power is lost before the flame shuts down, so I think that the cad cell is fine. I am going over the manual, but pretty sure it is the controller.

So now that I removed the controller from the electrical box, everything is working again, sounds like a loose connection or something. I am going to hook up the thermostat again and see what happens.

I have two, even though the “professional” furnace people told me that the nest is the issue, I just proved that wrong. Now that I have moved the wiring around in the electrical box, everything is working fine. The only gripe I have with the nest is that you can’t set the thermostat low enough for my shop, even then, I found a work around, but other than that they are both great, going on 5 years or so at the house.

Probably a bad connection heated up and lost contact when hot. Glad you got it.

Had my heating supplier put in what they recommend for a remote thermostat which was Honeywell. I figured it would cut down on he said she said ****. It did mess up once and pulling it and replacing it in holder solved communication issues. But as with most electronics disconnecting a connector and reconnecting solves more problems than it creates, omitting the idiot who bends and breaks pins on connector.

I am not sure I really, fully understand it, but I want to. The basics make sense, but the nuisances of it are what take experience, that is where I fall flat, basic knowledge and some research has shed a bit of light and I am sure I will know more by the time I am done.

Strouty: If you want to set lower than the "house" norm, I find you've got to look for a "garage" 'stat. I put a Honeywell wifi 'stat in the garage, then found out it won't set below 40 degrees (and just found out it won't register air temp below 40 either)..

For what it's worth, my thread on this issue..

Scooter, I found with the nest you can set the “emergency temp down to 35 or so, then if you turn it off, which you can do remotely, that is the “set” temperature. What I do is run two thermostats, one is a more standard one and it is set at 45, I just turn the nest off when I am not around, then turn it on whenever I am headed there. Easy and simple once set, and the second thermostat covers me when power goes out, because the nest runs out of battery after a couple days and when the power comes back on, it doesn’t always reconnect due to the internet needing a reset.

Today was a good day, got the FL106 Detroit 50 series engine running without the truck side wiring, a big relief for sure. Next step is to remove the cab and transmission, then I will bolt up the Allison automatic and start getting things figured out for that wiring. I will be able to use the chassis as a engine test stand, pretty much perfect.

Cab is coming off for sure, probably leave the front axle for now, just seems like a waste of time, besides, it moves really well in conjunction with the pallet jack.
