Taking it fairly easy, did a few things to prep for Sunday, tomorrow is the big push because I have help most of the day. I am grabbing a late lunch right now, then headed home to do drugs.

That is pretty sweet.

Today seems like it may have been a colossal waste of a day. We worked on the bigger hydraulic tank and plumbing things up, in the end, the pump made some funny noises, then seemed to not pump any fluid. Not sure if it has air, is low on fluid, has been destroyed, or what. It was too cold and windy outside to want to mess with it too much. We did get the basic lettering on the truck, I was working on the radio, but seem to have misplaced the screws needed for the dash, I am going to get an early start tomorrow in hopes that I can find them. So at this point, we have no radio and the knuckle booM no longer works.

And my back is killing me.

Made it back, almost with all the tires on the trailer, last “few” miles (read 75) we had to go 55 to keep things balanced and not bounce off the road. The seller never said it had a flat, and told me they had four spare tires for me, showed up, flat tire and no spares, but he said he hauled it that way from Tennessee and it would be fine. Famous last words. Funny thing is only two truckers and one guy in a chicken suit (driving a car) flagged us down, by the time it had let go, there wasn’t enough left to matter, so we just drove slower.

Extended cab COE with 4X, YOU NEED THAT, that motor is a powerful one just not the "Fuel Sipper" it is labeled. That would make an awesome motor home, easier licencing and insurance and will tow a $#!+ load more than a regular 30 series platform motor home. less paper work too no log books etc. I'm not sure what happens with a knuckle boom motor home though never seen one. Keep us posted! Harry

Is anything ever easy? Not in my lifetime, and it sounds like you're on the same river, just a few miles back.

I am just glad that the tire was already flat, had it been full of air and let go, it probably would have taken out the other tire and made for a nasty situation. by the time we realized what had happened, the trie was at a point that it wasn't a big safety hazard and I took the risk, since it was so old, the sidewall was stuck to the rim like it was welded and that helped the situation a lot. Was it the safest thing to do? Probably not, but there were very few cars on the road, and we were monitoring the situation close enough that I felt like it was the best solution. With no spare, we wouldn't have gotten any roadside help, at least not quickly. I wish I had taken the time to get a spare myself, but when the seller tells you he has four spares for you, I guess you just think you will be fine, live and learn.

Last night we figured out that there was a valve we had plugged off thinking it was a proportioning valve for the previous truck’s hook lift unit. In the end it appears we dead headed the current hydraulic pump and may have done some damage. I took the valve completely out and lumber things directly with no dead heading of the fluid, we tried to run it again and it pumped, but you now need 1200 to 1500 RPMS of the engine to make the boom work, before it worked at idle just fine. With a gear pump, I am not sure what damage can be done, but I am at the point I may call in real help.

My GF and I went over to check out the new trailer, she was excited about some of the cool things in it, plus she actually saw the possible value in it as a retail store for the fair circuit. I do think that is the way I will market it, definitely have some work to do, but I think it will be worth the effort in the end.

Been working on and in the shop at the Hill, had to clean up the steel rack to get to some pipe we needed for the dock project. My Cousin is helping, but it is more training for him, he is picking things up really well. We are going to try some welding this afternoon, so far he has been using the torch to heat up some steel so we could bend it, you would never know that the first time he ever touched a torch was yesterday, even got him to cut some 1/2” plate and he made a clean (but crooked) cut.



The rest of the shop is a bit more messy, but we are working through it, still need to put all the tools away, with my sore back, bending down to get tools out of a bucket or tote is not fun. I have done one full drawer so far.

The stock rack looks really good. Some people just take to things easily. How old is your cousin? Is he possibly going to take the place of the ex-employee?

I think he will be around for a while, but he is destined for greater things, he is in his early twenties, he is well educated and had a job at a desk making $75k per year, did it for a few years, but hated it. He quit then started working for a tree company doing tree removal, then we slowly got him to help us and here we are. I would love to be able to keep him around, he seems to enjoy learning and everything I teach him makes him more valuable. Who knows, he may end up working with me, instead of for me, that would be the best case scenario.

I had all these 5 gallon buckets that the employee left and they all had some form of oil in them, if you were to throw them away, this oil would leak out and probably get someone in trouble. I decided to drain them into each other, so I have them all propped up, tomorrow I will take the top buckets off and drain the next batch into each other, each time it will be half the buckets until I get down to one (or two, but I think there will only be one). This way I can safely dispose the crappy buckets or reuse the good ones. I am headed to the island tomorrow to help layout the next portion of the dock and get the lay of the land.
