Mother nature is ******* me off as well, I want to start messing with OMO and the damn robin is still there, the eggs have hatched and there are tiny baby birds now, must be another couple weeks before those will be gone. :(

Found a dead baby bird on my boat. I had been visited regularly by a sparrow who acted like it was her boat. I am guessing the bird put an egg on top of the T-Bag which holds my life preservers. The bird got burial at sea honors vs being put in crab trap.

Doesn't look too bad. If you don't need the extra below the bumper, trim it off and the new grill, the thing will look pretty damn good. But I'm guessing you're already at least two steps ahead of that.

Until I have the winch, I really don't want to take too much more off the bottom. I will most likely reinstall the hydraulic pump on the front, then I can see what type of room I need for lines and things. The biggest issue is going to be the hydraulic tank. I really need to talk with the hydraulics guru at the local repair shop, I think all this may just be stupid, I am probably going to be able to run the front winch off the PTO and existing tank for the knuckle boom. I am pretty sure that the front pulley is totally in a different location on the Detroit 50 series that will be installed, that would basically make a lot of this work pointless. Regardless, I still need to keep enough room for the winch, controls, and hydraulic lines.

You guys would be so proud of me, today I didn't buy a truck, well, I guess I did actually buy a truck, but not the one that I went to look at. I did however buy a trailer, but it was a good deal.....

The truck I didn't buy was kind of cool, but needed too much work and had too many miles for the price, if it doesn't sell, the guy may end up taking my lowball offer, but for now I just bought the trailer. It is another weird one, used to be a simulcast studio for live events and there is still a ton of **** left inside. Unfortunately, I think the AC units are three phase, but I didn't get too deep into things, just made a low offer and they took it. I will be picking it up on Tuesday around lunch, will get more pictures of the inside at that point.

As for the truck that I did buy, it was my Dad's F-550 with the little boom (not a knuckle boom :( ), it has an issue and the ex "employee" said it needed a head gasket and Dad didn't want to deal with it since it is a 6.0 diesel. I am taking a chance that it will be an easy fix, but if not, it is a rust free truck, and the crane with the new remote setup is worth more than I paid for the truck.

Here is the trailer (and the truck I didn’t buy)

Also bought two John Deere riding lawnmowers, one is fully functional and ready to mow, the other needs some tinkering. The running one is a newish bubbly one, the other is an older 318, not sure what it will need, definitely a tie rod and maybe a tube for the front tire. I will have to post pictures of those tomorrow.

This is the second van trailer you've gotten recently right? I probably missed it so what is your plan for them, just storage, or mobile shop, or something else?

He should make them rooms for guests who come visit from GarageJournal to help him on all his projects. 2 birds, 1 stone.

This one was unexpected, it could be made into a mobile workspace very easily. In fact it may end up being my eBay trailer, there is enough room to store the things that are for sale, make an office area, and have a photography section for taking the pictures. I am thinking long term keeper for this one, the other one that was the saddle shop has always been to resell, just needs some work done and marketing. Both will probably end up as storage for right now, too many other projects going on, I do not feel that letting them sit for a year or two will change the value any. Could make them more valuable if we end up having another civil war. ;)

Not to change subjects, but the new to me F-550 doesn’t seem to have a head gasket leak, I bought one of the fluid tester kits, the liquid is blue and changes to yellow if there is a bad head gasket, I go the fluid to lighten up a bit, but could not make it yellow or even green. Will need to do a bit more investigation before I understand this engine. The surge tank cap is definitely messed up, I think it is the threads on the tank not the cap, so I may order a new one to replace this one.

2cb72ec638baaaa8e230a0a06b1d2555.jpg

The system holds vacuum, not that there is much pressure from the tester, but I had to break the seal a couple times so I could pull new air through the fluid. Ran the truck for 20 minutes while I was unloading the tool box, temp did not rise above normal mark, it has idiot gauges, so I don’t know what the temp actually was, may need to plug my scan tool in at some point and see what if anything I can see while it is hooked up.

I forgot to snap a pick of the ugly mower, but here are a couple of the 318.

The front has some obvious damage from running into something, the rear hitch plate is bent, I just set the tie rod on the front wheels so I could get it moved. I think in the end it was worth the $100, of course I don’t have it running yet. ;)

A running 318 is a $1200 tractor all day everyday. That one got in a fight with a tree or something, but looks good otherwise. Small mowerdeck, so 46", but the paint and hood look good, and even the grill is still pretty straight. Im not sure what all the holes in the pan are for, never seen that. They sell repro mule drive plates on ebay that are super beefy. I picked one up last year.

I knew it was a good deal and I don’t think it will need much to get it going.

On a bad note, my cousin informed me that my Dad is actively plotting against me. I think that the Hill is going to be short lived, I can get out of the lease with 30 days notice, but the emotional harm that is happening is going to never go away. I truly think my Dad will be out of my life before the end of this year. :(

Believe me, I am just as confused. He thinks that because I don’t work from 8 to 4 every day that I don’t do anything. He also think that I have to actually be in the office to do any work. I found out he has been spying on me to see if I am working or not. Frustrating for sure, plus he doesn’t remember that I help with the facility and infrastructure too.

I don't think I am going to be putting anymore effort into anything on the Hill, the house, the shop, landscaping, or cleanup. I will make sure that the lease is followed and just use the shop space for my trucks and the house for storage. This will mean I need to move my personal office into the house for now, but I am not getting tangled into moving Dad's office, they can shuffle everything from one side to the other. I feel bad, but the stress and BS is slowly killing me, it is clear that I need to start concentrating on me for a change. I think this will end up bringing out the true power my stepmother has, good for her, she is the one that will have to deal with the monster she creates after what is left of my Dad is gone.

I am just about unwound tonight, may give you a shout tomorrow. Last night I could not get to sleep, today just compounded things, I am taking something to help get to sleep tonight.

A JD that still has a plastic hood attached. Nice find. I have a whole pile of ******* Deeres. Plastic has no UV protection in it, and where do we all use our mower? Inside of course, right?

Sorry to hear this too.

My advice is to get out. Quietly and the sooner the better. Have the lawyer make sure the company assets are truly separate etc. Get your stuff out. Distance yourself to a place that you feel comfortable at. Put yourself first.

My ex-wife taught me a few things. One was to have a line, a line that demarcates how far someone else would go for me. Then if they won't cross that line, that is where I stop too.

Find your line for your dad, for the company etc.

Remember, taking the high road, in the end, is for yourself. You can look back and say: "I did what was right". That is what matters at the end of the day.

I'm sure that your cousin is telling you the truth as it is today. But I also think, based on what you tell us, that your Dad is likely to change yet again before too long. Still it's a good move to protect your position going forward.

My Brother has been telling me the same thing, I have a few important loose ends to tie up before I can actually leave. With the Hill, I have the lease and will most likely continue to use it for the next two years like I originally planned, the rent is so cheap that I can’t justify not using it.

The bigger picture is my income, or lack of it. I have spent the last few years destroying my own company to rebuild Dad’s, now I have no customer base, I am out of shape, and even my connections for used equipment has given up on me due to the fact that I hadn’t been flipping the machine tools. So If I am to be honest, I am a bit scared. :(

I have been building a business model for a while, but I have no proof of concept yet, for the interim I can just go back to selling things and hope that things start to shape up and make sense. I feel I have gotten soft and that is a big problem for sure.

Actually, Deere used fiberglass starting in 1963 up through the 318, 322, 332, 420, and 430 models of the early 90's. After that they changed to plastic.

Strouty, sorry to hear about your family issues rearing up their ugly head again. Its been said before and Im sure it'll be said again, but time to get out. You know the drill at this point, its time to cut the string on your yoyo. Your dad reeled you in with the Hill, and now hes pushing you out again, so cut loose.

No filter, I trust my cousin, he is from my mother’s side and she and Dad have been divorced for 35 years, he has no skin in the game and the reason he told me is because he refused to play the game my Dad wanted to, he flat out told Dad that he would not get involved.

This morning turned into a mess, trying to do a couple easy things turned into a nightmare because I didn’t have the proper tools at the SG. Anyways, after 4 hours of messing around, the Peterbilt truck and the trailer are finally gone, I helped the owner get them to his house, but that truck didn’t want to leave. Stuck brakes, dead batteries, leaking air, broken chains, you name it, we did it.

After that I had to go to the bank, in Perk, so I walked through the drive up teller window to get my cash for the trailer. Then when I get there it was like a reunion, two of the guys that work for the company selling the trailer were old television/microwave guys that I knew from way back. I got the full tour, I told them when one of the newer trailers is available, I want first dibs, I think they were 53’ long with an almost full length slide out on one side making the trailer about 14’ wide. It was very cool, they handle live sporting events, so they are just doing maintenance right now.

Here is what is inside one of the big ones.

bf5fe26a3c452eeedf95f0e2310e279d.jpg

189869a08077bf581d688ae501cf7acd.jpg

They usually have 20 or so people working in there at once.

b8838a78a869707e5069366b90d25d7d.jpg

They were something like 3 million new.

Makes mine look like a toy, but mine has been to Cuba for one of the big soccer tournaments and that makes it a cool story. ;)

Even better news is it takes single phase power and should run off a hundred amp circuit without any problems, probably be fine for what I do with a 50 amp setup. I am in a rush, so I am not setting up the stairs or going inside for a full tour yet, we will all have to wait until later this week.

The guy that crews with me used to be a Sports producer for several networks including ESPN before he retired. He might even have worked in one or more of those trailers.

Trailer might make a nice tiny house. Then regardless of what happens, you take your house with you.

I can’t wait to really see inside it, I will take a tour and get some photos for you guys. There was still a lot of neat stuff inside, might have some value, might not. I figure I need to at least do a little research before just scrapping things.
