The wind is howling right now, feels a lot colder than it is, earlier it was sideways sleet. :(

I have the basics of the office done, need to get the Burb so I can do my errands.

Nothing more than some sleet, windy as can be though, lost power for a little while too.

Spent some time looking over the water system, I think I have things figured out, now I just have to get my parts and tools figured out. I am going to draw up a basic schematic to see if there is something I am missing. At this point the plan is to have both the well pump and the jet pump use the same pressure tank. I will have to switch between the pumps manually, but it should only be a twice a year thing.

I also got the sockets unloaded, they are just as nice as the wrenches.

The impact set is a nice addition, it goes to 2 1/2” for 3/4” drive, usually you have to go with a 1” drive socket setup to go that big.

You got a lot done and the shop is looking nice!

What kind of material is the top of the semi trailer made out of? It looks like plastic with metal bars going across it.

I am over at the tower site, had to drop off the padlocks for the gates, then I decided to pick up a bit of the small stainless hangers from the ground. I ran out of space, but have almost all of them picked up now.

There are two more bins and a couple tool bags full. Not worth a lot, but better than regular steel.

Strouty does that actually have a double axle under it? Kinda dark but sure looks like it. Looks nice is this flip or are you going to use it?

The truck is just a shell, I have four or five trucks that I need some parts off of, but the Cascadias have some salvage value because they are all less than 10 years old and the body style is even more recent. I want to trade the salvage yard for parts that I need, problem is that I still haven’t gotten to that point yet, hopefully I will be there this winter.

I was up late last night for no reason, I feel like we just need a magic 8 ball to decided things.......

Anyways, cold morning again, supposed to be in the 40s with less wind today. I am overseeing removal of some equipment from the same site that we just took the tower down. I will be double dipping, getting paid to oversee, but also working on the tower removal project itself, love it when that can happen. :)

Tomorrow I have some help at the Hill, supposed to be 60 degrees, then some decent weather for several days, this should be the productive time to get as much done as I can before winter truly sets in. I am hopeful that I can get what needs to be done, done, I plan on stages, each step will be prepped for snow even if not at the final stage, that way I won't get caught with my pants down.

But I already know you guys are watching. ;)

Trying to get some stuff done, been cleaning up the trash from the last out building left from my grandfather, found two old power transformers, the ones that hang of the poles along the road, they still have oil in them and from what I understand, it is bad stuff. I put in a request for a nationwide company with a local office, I am going to guess that having two will make it more expensive than having lots of them. :(

I also have what I think is a good plan for the two tower sections that are vertical rather than horizontal. Hopefully that plan will work, won’t find out for a couple days, but I will post pictures when I start messing with it. I really need to get the sections broken down so I can clear the rest of the concrete slabs and buildings.

Are these really big? Maybe your girlfriend can take them to the county haz-waste drop off and tell them a friend found them in Grandpa's shed? City yearly haz-waste pick up day?

Keep them off the company books?;)

FYI glad you are making progress on lots of things. Remember that when you are feeling overloaded with tasks to do.

Shop looks good being cleared out like that!

The transformers are about the size of a ten gallon trash can, pretty heavy too, with obvious sloshing sounds from the oil.

uuggg. most likely PCBs in the liquid.

I still think you should try the county haz-waste drop off (if you have one). There will be a fee.

My ex-mother-n-law had a good sized box in her shed with lots of bottles of nasty pesticides/herbicides. The county was happy she turned them in. They told her they get lots of weird stuff.

My ex-wife contemplated keeping the chemicals, because you can't get the good stuff anymore...

I will call around, even think I will call the local POCO.

I think I can have all the ladders and brackets off the tower laying on the ground today. I am trying not to make a lot of continuous noise, the tower crew doesn’t know what a radio is, so they have to shout back and forth. If noise wasn’t an issue I would really go to town, regardless, this needs to be done and it is time consuming, better to do alone than wasting effort of two people.

Dealt with a couple of those when we cleaned up the farm. Some of them have PCBs in them. Be CAREFUL!!! If that **** spills, its bad news.

I need tower connections apparently, just one of those sections would be cool to have around. Be it "treehouse" or deerstand, it would be neat for something. Guess I need to start paying attention out here.

Seems strange a tower crew isn't using comms. What happens when they are climbing up too high to shout?

The transformers are going to have PCBs in the oil for certain. :(

These guys are actually an “antenna crew”, there are far less “tower crews” than you think. The antenna guys usually get scared when you start assembling or disassembling tower steel while they are on the structure. I was trained old school, but I transitioned into the safety aspects and know how to do antenna work and tower work without getting into too much trouble.

Trailer is pretty much full, not going to load too much more in it.

Still have brackets to pull off, going to take a bit longer, I cut the last ones with the grinder, these are in the dry leaves, so I won’t chance starting a fire.

At least that one section is fully prepped and ready to be taken apart, just need to make room so I can get Perk close enough to hold the top leg while I dismantle the bracing.

I forget... Do you get to scrap all the steel now? Be careful around the PCB transformers, friend of mine's dad died of cancer from PCB exposure.

And if they are leaking defer to a safe, viable PLAN B.

Just curious, is the dome shaped piece that is still on the tower leg metal? To be honest, I see them all the time on towers etc, but I just never had anyone to ask what they were made of?

It's the, we see stuff everyday and have no clue what it is for kind of thing.

Dad wants the bigger pieces of steel, I still have to disassemble everything.

Very careful with the transformers, no visible leaks or signs of leakage, so at least I have that going for me.

The front dome is made of plastic, the rear is usually aluminum. They also made some of the domes out of fiberglass, don’t see those too often anymore. There are larger ones that use a cloth material, like they use in car tents, but those are flat and have springs to keep the tension on them. Basically they are just covers to protect the feed horn (it sends or collects the signal), these are microwave dishes and they are for point to point communications over long distances.

Thanks! I figured not metal. Too bad, would have made a great disk sled for sledding down the hill driveway! My steel disk sled was stolen, I'm still mad about that.

We have used them for large charcoal grills before, the aluminum part, not the plastic. ;)

I hope there is not another dock. :(

Picked things up, filled the little dump trailer to the brim, literally, it is just squatting the tires a bit, I did check and it will dump. :)

4ba66eda1b88be3318da2655bb9327e1.jpg

Got the rest of the ladders removed and all the inner brackets. Still have some coax brackets, but they are mostly stuck under the leg on the ground, so will probably just wait until I am actually disassembling the sections to remove them. Next step is going to be to remove the clustah fack on the top section, it is a bent tangled mess. :(
