The snowblowers were on clearance earlier this year, they were stupid cheap, two are cordless, the other is corded. Bike is mine, hasn’t been ridden in a couple years, the Hill has lots of places to ride, so maybe in the spring. ;)

Mold *****.

I setup bait stations and a couple bucket traps last night, will be curious to see if we got anything. I need to build some more traps and take them to the SG, hopefully I will be over there about noon. I have a few more things to load up at the Hill, then I can take a trip over, not sure what I am bringing back, would be nice to get Clark and Perk back, then tomorrow morning I can work on getting the blue hydraulic tail trailer ready to haul over to the SG, that will allow me to turn trailers around up at the Hill, right now I would have to back out into the lawn, but even then the longer trailers aren’t really going to be doable, the rock wall screws me up. :(

I still want to try and get the electric brakes operational in Perk, plus I have to make a permanent setup for the light adapter to run the lighter duty trailers. I know this is going to take longer than I think, that is why I want to get Perk back to the Hill, then I can be inside doing that after dark or in the rain.

Next week I need to take a trip to the scrap yard for sure, would like to get rid of the batteries from the forklifts, then they should be easier to load. Also must have a dozen junk batteries floating around the yard and shop. Looks like some rain off and on all week, but still decent temps, I can work with that. ;)

I caught one mouse in the house, then in the shop the bait block near the sink had been eaten some. I don’t think I have a huge problem, but I definitely noticed mice running around and signs of the fackers here and there.

I am working on the Cascadia, kind of been neglecting pulling the engine, so I figured I would at least get started, it is pretty nice out today. May even abandon plans to go to the SG and just work on this and a few other things today. I would love to get this engine out, would make me feel better. One less thing on the to do list that is holding someone else up. :(

Whats the plan for the fire pumper truck? Always thought that one would make a fun project but never sure what to do with it.

I am ready to pull the radiator, but it is jammed in from the accident, I think I am going to try and pull it out, there are a couple bolts I can’t get to due to the damage and I really don’t want to start cutting things up if I don’t have to.

Scrap.

I used the 550 and pulled to get the bolts back to where I could get a ratchet on them. It was better than trying to cut since there were a lot of flammable things tucked in.

I am getting to the point that I don't know what I am doing, so now I am fumbling, very annoying. I am going to keep working on the little things and then see about getting some help to pull the motor next week. I don't want to cut the wrong wires or hoses, but they are pretty hard to figure out where or how to disconnect them. Also getting to the bolts on the rear bell housing looks like it will be fun. I have plenty left to do, so I will try and get them done, then there will be less later.

At this point, I am seriously thinking if I pull off the cab, it will give full access, plus I had planned on this anyways. Just not sure I want to do that yet. The manual says to remove everything from both sides of the truck, cab may be easier. :(

Taking off the lower fender parts seems to be enough, only issue is that the bolts don’t want to come out. I got the drivers side, passenger side is giving me hell. I am working on taking off the wheel to give me better access now.

***** that I couldn’t undo the bolts, but inner fenders are off both sides now, still have to get the exhaust out, but much closer to be able to unbolt the rear mounts.

If you ever have threaded inserts that spin and you need the part out of the way, if you take a hole saw that is as close to the same diameter of the hardware (in my case it was a fender washer), remove the center drill bit from the hole saw and it will cut around the part. I have had to do this to remove rusty burb bodies as well.

be1eaf2506fc9492e7685307f95f6a13.jpg

You can see the pieces of inner fender left behind on the bolts, if I wanted, now I could get them out, but I don’t really care right now.

Done for tonight, definitely got colder. Tomorrow will be a bit cooler too. I still have to remove power steering reservoir, fuel filter and lines, front engine mount bolts, rear engine mount bolts, driveshaft, various wires and hoses that probably won’t be obvious until I start trying to pick up the engine. :(

This is a good experience for me, even though it is burning my daylight, it needs to be done and I am learning as I go. Just wish this was one of my real projects and not an intermediate thing.

You're more patient the me. I'da taken the sawzall to those inner fenders in a jiffy, spent more time and prolly bent up $5 worth of blades. What's that they say? Patients is a virtue?:D

The problem with cutting them out was that there wasn’t a good way to do it, you needed them completely out, otherwise they would be jabbing and stabbing you while trying to get the rear mounts undone. I am glad I took the time, it should be a lot easier now.

Really cold compared to yesterday, might slow me down a bit. We are getting rain tonight, so I would like to get the engine out, but I have to go to the SG and put the tires inside for sure, I can do that after dark if needed, so engine will be first priority.

Got the exhaust out of the way, unbolted the driveshaft, but it won’t come loose until the trans starts to move, going to strap it up. Working on the hydraulic clutch and other cables and hoses now. Looks like I have good access to both the rear mounts, that was my biggest concern, will have to clean out the cab so I can remove the shifter boot to get to the top of the trans, just keep picking away. ;)

Had to use the long 1/2” breaker bar and pull really hard to get them loose.

The front bolts were a pain too, socket and ratchet wouldn’t fit, wrench would have had to been heated and bent to work (I would have done that if this didn’t work), ended up using my 3/4” to 1/2” adapter and some locking pliers to get them loose. Still need to remove a bunch of hoses and wires, but I am getting closer.

c22392eb9ae6ab7bfda87cc621892e09.jpg

Ended up having to grind a couple flat spots that corresponded to the locking pliers, that made things work perfectly.

Got the power steering and fuel filter off, other tire, battery cables, working on hydraulic clutch and lines still. Also removed shifter and took some plugs and lines off the top of the trans. Going to cut lines for DPF, they are a tangled mess.

Getting this done while the weather holds is one of your better ideas.
Nothing worse than being beholden to a stranger on something you said you would do and then not getting it done in a timely manner.

I will be glad when the engine is on the back of the 550, or at least on the ground and not in the truck.

They are only calling for rain Monday and then off and on rain for a couple more days, temps will be warmer and there will be NO SNOW, I said it. ;)

Got everything disconnected or cut loose, going to see if Guido will work or if I need to use a crane.

Cluster fack is not even an accurate description right now. I am trying to beat the dark, my rigging sucked, so the engine can’t be set down without tipping over, I just got Guido stuck trying to help set it down, lots of fun. :(

Even the track crane started acting up, I figured out it was low on fuel and had started sucking air, fixed that, luckily I had diesel, otherwise things would have been really bad.

Started out that the chains were not ideal.

b09f4c0bd628b91edbd96abecbe2b9bb.jpg

Then the engine hit the crossmember, it was all because of the chains and angle I was picking from, once it was up, I could set it down without causing carnage.

71dec77673bdc5fe3c76de1ec9f04e58.jpg

Fixed the crossmember issue with the smoke wrench.

The rear chain was under the firewall, making a mess of things.

906a538ee17869b27b72fcf544e7038e.jpg

It was jammed in good, bumped the truck and almost knocked it off the jack stands.

847ecfe8dcf8fc07a70f28533fa9905c.jpg

Balancing act

09210468fbb9154c4333f1c23d23358a.jpg

6f4b0aa1fa2b1194d53862cbf1c06b6b.jpg

In the end, it was the drive shaft holding things up, I had it unbolted and figured that it would come undone after the first tug, nope. Because the truck was half off the front stand there was no way I was going under it to pound and pry on the ujoint, I took out the smoke wrench again and made it work.

After the driveshaft parting, things went smoother.

A little bit of carnage, nothing earth shattering.

319cc14bad05ffeb8db5cedf8dfe6c18.jpg

I had to beat that u joint pretty hard to get the safer to come off.

Looks much better like this....

b0bf8ace1a46c988157cf855258d1733.jpg

Trying to set the engine down was terrible, the way the chains were, it would tip to one side, so I thought I could use Guido to support the rear ears on the forks, got stuck in the loose stuff. :(

0b3845561a92077ecceff358329ad54a.jpg

Ended up using the 550 to pick one side while setting it down.

3fda27ced8322ecb2f41afc47419a5cd.jpg

Had to shorten the rear chain, only way I could make it work.

3b5f524ba040dee5e996fd6510a0090e.jpg

Now it picks and sits level.

Unloaded and headed to the SG to deal with the tires.
