Thanks!

I just decided to empty out the "used motor oil" and I think I may have just made a mess. Looks like it may be something else, way too thin, kind of smells like diesel fuel, but I can't tell. I don't think it will harm the furnace, but it could be that things will need to be adjusted due to the viscosity. I should have been more attentive, but I will admit, I just wanted it emptied. Only time will tell. :(

My well used oil comes out ALMOST as fast as the kero I use in the torpedo. I wouldn't think the viscosity in a warm environment would be a lot different.

Thanks again.

Seems like today is one of those days where I can't seem to get warmed up. The rain and the temps make it feel way too damp and cold. :(

Going to have some soup, then go try to get a few tools put away, I figure doing some small things should help, but my motivation is as cold as my feet right now.

Today feels like a heat wave, almost 50! ;)

I am over at the SG trying to figure out what is the best way to move forward for winter storage, things are pretty tight and I may have to change my snow removal plans a bit. If I put trailers way out back, then, just like last year, I can’t get to them until late spring after the mud is gone. If I keep them out, I don’t have as much room to push the snow, but I am not sure that will really be an issue this year. Between my projects at the Hill and all the extra trailers I way be fine, basically some will be buried behind a lot of plowed snow, that is, if we get a lot of snow. ;)

No matter how I lay things out, with the Freightliner cutoff I can’t get more than two burbs inside without cramming them tight for storage only. That would defeat the purpose of having them inside. I may be able to squeeze two burbs and the Yukon inside, still working on that idea, but it will probably be too cramped still. This kind of messes my plans up, I was hoping to have the Virginia burb in side and two burbs to work on. Might have to do some drastic things, nothing like a lot of work for a little gain. :(

Regardless, I still have to remove three Lista cabinet, those will go to the Hill. I am not going to unload the drawers this time, might regret it, but I know moving the last ones was pretty bad unloading them too, we will see how it goes.

Short goal is to get. Things moved around inside so I can get the rest of the rollers out and into the 40’ trailer. That will make me feel better for sure.

OK, pulled the tires back out, found a home for four of them, could probably put more on the other side, but these are slated for this trailer, figured it would make sense to keep them with it.

I also moved the 40’ box around so I can load up the rollers. I found a miscellaneous pallet of stuff too, should go inside as well.

I have almost enough room to get the Virginia burb out of the way, just have to move the FL106 now.

Ah yes mud. I am sitting here in my landing debating how many yards of rock to throw at this. From the cold days it has turned out to be heave more then I like.

It was a bit slimy the other day, I usually throw rock at it every year until it stops taking it. ;)

Got the Virginia burb moved, a bit tight to the FL106, but for right now it will be fine.

Shuffling the FL106 is a bit harder, I think I need to make up a caster setup for the rear, would make things much easier for sure.

Strouty what's the eventual plan for the tire mounted on rims you have?

Keep as spares? Swap out on some vehicles?

What about the FL106?

Thanks

Can the FL106 go to the quonset hut, or do you need to get to it over the winter ?

Park the trailers over on the side and push all the snow to the back. You’ll probably have to back them in when you use them, but you will at least be able to get to them.

The tires all need to be mounted, I have something like 40 tires on six different trailers that need to be shuffled, I don’t think I will get to that until next year, so I want to keep them dry for now. Any mounted on rims can stay outside.

The FL106 is just an engine for Perk, I need to do several things before swapping it though. I don’t think that will happen this year either. As for the Quonset hut, that is Dad’s, I only get to help clean it. :(

I did tell him I am not taking the camel back drill press out and he seemed fine with it.

As for the trailers, the box trailers really need to be driven in, that way I have access to the contents, otherwise you won’t be able to get into them until spring. It might not be an issue, but with a day of truck/trailer shuffling, I think I can make it happen. I really need to Mitsu back over here, but I am not taking it off the tower site until I get the job done.

How many games of Tetris can Strouty play at the same time, let us count the ways. Burb tetris, trailer tetris, tire tetris? Dude I can barely keep track of my little fleet, no way I could ever keep track of something the size of yours.

I need to make things more manageable for sure, this year is all about getting things where they need to be, after that I can work on some of my projects, then in the spring I can deal with my excessively large fleet.

I ended up heading out around 5, last night was a very late night for me (midnight) and I am still feeling it now. Going to bed earlier tonight for sure. Will be regrouping at the Hill sometime in the morning.

I find it helps to have a bad memory. I occasionally find a vehicle I didn't know I had.

Earlier was not by much, think it was 11:30 last night, got up a bit after 7, going to have to get back on track by Monday.

I should have listened to my gut, weather forecasts said 0% chance of rain, it definitely rained, I had left the tires outside, so now there is sure to be some cleanup before storage, worst ones are the 19.5 tires, they are still on rims, but the bead has been broken, will probably have to dismount them now to get them cleaned up. I guess that is a lesson I should have learned long ago. :(

Will be bringing the small dump trailer over to the SG so I can pick up some scrap steel. I have a couple sets of tires mounted on rims that will need to go too. I am sure there is more that could go over, but I am trying not to overwhelm myself at this point.

Got the first powered roller setup torn down, lots of nuts and bolts, the next one should be a bit easier, no motor or gear box.

Wow, taking things apart is always a fun. Kind of zen like.

Are you scrapping all that or just making them into a more store-able size?

Those leg section look like they would make great work bench or welding table legs/bases. Maybe machine stands (drill press, sander etc).

I was trying to just remove the motors and gear boxes, but the second one, well, let’s just say I took out one too many bolts. :(

The plan has been to make some heavy duty indeed and out feed tables. Then I was thinking of making a system to help store steel inside a conex, using rollers down the middle. Haven’t gotten very far on that design yet, but it could be a very useful tool for the future. ;)

I almost stopped by the SG today on my way down to kbunk today. But then I realized that there's no such thing as a quick visit at the SG and we both had stuff to do.

Almost have the rollers all loaded, working on the gear boxes, then I have decided that a the pallet of corners is headed to the scrap yard. They have been outside for months and I don’t see any future use for them with my plans.

I had to pull apart some of the corners, they were too heavy to load and I didn’t want to dump them into the trailer. Only thing I have left is some angle irons that I am cutting to fit the trailer and a few electrical controls that need to be disassembled further.

2150f5a52dbf369ba97d0ff0b6d7ae5c.jpg

Tomorrow I can actually shuffle a few trailers around, still hoping to bring Perk back to the Hill since Monday is going to be raining. I think Clark will have to wait for a few more days, just depends on how well things go tomorrow. When it comes to weekends at the SG, I try not to make a racket until noon, so I really only have 4 hours of daylight to work with. :(

A few of the neighbors are not so friendly to my use of the space and I try not to rock any boats unless I have to.

I think the rollers were one of those sticking points, I feel I procrastinated, it just felt like I got one days work done, but it took two days to do it. Hopefully today will feel more productive, although I did end up going to bed later again and I am now starting way later than normal. It appears my staying up late has a direct correlation with my lack of productivity, got to stop that **** ASAP.

It is amazing how much things change when you have daylight. I have a lot of space to work with, but it is really not a quick easy task to shuffle the stuff. As much as I don’t want to, I think I need to get the tires and wheels back on the red trailer out front of the SG, the plan had been to swap wheels and tires around, but it involves multiple trailers and I don’t have time right now to make it happen. It won’t be all wasted work, I can put never seize on the drums so the wheels should come off much easier next time. I kind of think that I should park some of the trucks on trailers that are not going to be used for the winter. It will cut my foot print down a lot for fairly little effort. Of course I am saying that without having done it yet. Goal would be to get that done in the next week or so.

I had about 4 hours to work with, didn’t get everything I wanted done, but I did get the most important things done. Trailer Tetris was fun as always.

Don't I remember you shuffling them last year? If so, is there a reason you can't arrange them in semi-permanent positions?

Yes and no, we didn't have the spring auction this year, so my normal purge was interrupted so to speak. The only two trailers that I moved back to the original locations were the office trailer and the moving van trailer connected to the 5 Ton, everything else is new or hasn't been touched yet. As far as a permanent position, I really only want to have conex boxes for storage, they are the most secure (when you can shut the doors properly :( ).

If I stay up past 11:00 I dont feel like getting up the next day and I am not productive at all. I try to go to bed at 10:00 then I am awake at 6:00 and ready to go. Must be consistent tho.[/URL]

I think that is what was going on with me, it was the first time since election night that I had been up really late. I am working on hitting the sack before 10, I like to get 7 hours of sleep, much more and my back hurts, much less and I feel too tired, I have one week left, then I have to get up at 4:30 until my GF's schedule swaps back or we get a second bathroom with a shower. :( I am working on this at the house on the Hill, but I honestly need to stop pretending that we are moving in anytime soon. I think this spring will be a fine timeline, if it happens sooner, great, but I can't commit the time needed to try and get in there ASAP.

No drone movie?
hook up trailer, take picture, move trailer, take picture, repeat
How many did you move?

No drone movie, I actually thought about it, but I didn't have it with me. Would have been nice, even for pictures.

I only moved 5 trailers and one truck, but in order to do this, I had to move them several times. It was literally like parking lot the game, I pulled one truck forward, then backed another into that spot to free up enough room to get to the next step. I wish I had another truck with a fifth wheel (one that runs), that would make things much easier, I had to disconnect and reconnect Perk for most of the moves. It doesn't seem that bad, except two trailers have jack issues, one has low speed only, the other is battery operated and the battery is dead. All the trailers have some stupid issue, need to assemble a list and start fixing things.

Tomorrow morning may be a bit usable. I have a Doctors appointment at quarter of nine, they are calling for rain after eleven, but who knows how accurate they will be. Would be nice if I can get a few more things moved, then I can put trailers in a "winter" location. Plus if it isn't raining too bad, I might even get Clark and Perk hauled back to the Hill.
