Tonight will be 40, tomorrow in the 60s, but Wednesday will be close to 90.

I put in a good day, bought a couple tool boxes for a truck or trailer, bought a small five drawer NEW Lista cabinet, and a forklift dumping hopper. Will have to post pictures tomorrow.

My Cousin official gave his notice to my Dad, except he didn’t give two weeks, Dad is not happy. He gave one week and said he would work a couple Saturdays, no matter what it is going to be a mess for a while, at least it appears Dad has some help for the dock project. I am trying to get things figured out for this week too, all kinds of messes already and it is only 11 AM on Monday. :(

Basically we need to get ten projects done each week for the next six months, in reality we will be lucky to get one or two done each week. Between the lack of availability of any help, waiting for or cost of parts, and all the other surprises along with day to day ****, nothing seems possible anymore. Going to just keep plugging away and try and get the most important stuff done as proactively as I can, problem is, Dad’s important and my important are two totally different things. ;)

Haven’t unloaded the truck yet, going to work on that soon, second shift is going to be here this afternoon, should have Goldfender put back together and usable for now. I am also looking at another Burb, this one could be a really interesting one, it is a converted dually version and it is pretty clean. Of course it is in the Bronx and I don’t really have the 12 hours that it is going to take to go and get it. We will see how that brews, going to let things percolate for a couple days……

I am not sure what my mantra is right now, but it isn't good......

I made a deal for the next burb, will be picking it up Sunday June 6th, haven't figured out logistics yet, working on that now. I would like to drive it home, but getting there with one driver can be a bit tricky.

Good luck figuring it all out. With the delay in materials and constant changing of prices we've decided to hold off on a few projects. Can't imagine trying to explain to your dad that not only is XXXX material up 2-8x the cost but it will also take weeks to arrive instead of being in stock.

Latest emergency issue might turn out to be a good thing. A few months back, Dad asked me to give a fabrication company $10k as a deposit for a custom aluminum ramp for the dock, I told him we couldn't afford it and he said he would pay it out of his personal account. He forgot to do that, then today came to me asking why I didn't pay it, luckily his memory was jogged enough that he wasn't pissed off at me. My guess is even if they get the deposit today, they won't be able to make the ramp until fall, so things will get postponed further and that is a good thing right now. ;)

Eat the elephant one bite at a time.

project management is more of a challenge now than ever with trying to get things in place in time.

the best ones now are clients saying this has to happen in 30 days.

OK, I work with my vendors on this, inform the client that price can only be held for 15-20days, but we need a commitment in 3 days to ensure we get material thats available.
2 weeks later still waiting on a PO!

Yes, this year will be a learning year, the company has a new tax structure, we are setting up new bank accounts and quickbooks for all companies owned by my Dad, the office is going to be completely rebuilt, I am working on the Lista wall, and the house on the Hill, not to mention all the regular projects that are always going on. At least tonight all the parts were in, so Goldfender was driven home, definitely needs a steering box, but rides pretty nice considering. I want to drive it for a couple weeks before I do anymore work to it, but if it proves to be a decent vehicle, I will do a bunch of things to it happily. I am already figuring that I am going to drive it for two years before I will be ready to do the OGMC project anyways, unless something major changes.

Pretty much everything changes, but not in a way that would make things better. :(

I took measurements and the baby Lista drawers will fin in my Lista cart, that will be very nice for sure. Probably do that tomorrow so I can clear up some space. I also think I want to make leveling feet into the bottoms of all the storage wall uprights, I remember when I installed the storage wall at the SG, it was a PITA to shim things, even after all that, it still wasn’t as level as I would have liked. I feel like this is worth the effort, just need to figure out what feet to buy, I figure worst case, the unit will have 400 pounds per shelf/drawer, with a maximum of 20 sehelves/drawers (really high estimate) this is 8000 pounds, plus another 1000 for the unit itself, total of 9000, divided by four legs is 2250 per leveling foot. I figure I will look at ones rated for 3000 pounds each and that will give me just about the right amount of overkill. ;)

I finally understand what a Brown's fan feels like. I look forward to your posts every day and I have such high hopes that I will see real progress towards completing a project. Every day I feel dejected when not only have you moved backwards, but you bought more stuff and plan a 12hr drive to get another vehicle for the collection while bitching about not having enough time in the same breath. I look at the time spent surfing for more items, then going to get those items, and finally find a place to stash the new stuff and imagine if it was spent working on a current project how well you would be doing. Much like a Browns fan I scream at my screen and vow to never watch again only to start counting the minutes until your next post.

I thought I would take comfort in someone exceeding my vehicle total, hollering HA! I'm not the nuttiest person out there!
Instead I'm cringing. But I check in everyday with my bowl of popcorn.

I think I have a job in Portland area later this summer, I'm going to have to come see the wall of Lista. Is this the same wall that you got a year of 2 ago? Or is this some deal you have going?

well normally I would say take the bus to boston and a train down to NY, then subway.

I looked into a few options, greyhound does a run, but it gets me there late at night and I want to be during the day. I thought about the Downeaster to Boston, then Uber a couple times if needed, I just don’t want to get stranded. I could probably use Goldfender to haul the empty trailer, then use the new Burb to tow the loaded trailer back, I would need to setup a brake controller and wiring, it generally isn’t too bad on the 1999s, but you never know what you are up against until you tear into things.

4 1/2 tons for the Lista weight? :0 Congrats on Goldfender.

You are totally correct, I should figure more like 6 tons, that would be better……

Actually you could load them pretty heavy, each regular drawer can handle 400 pounds and they offer heavy duty ones that handle 770 pounds. I think I am overkill, because I know what I put in the drawers, but I want to make it so that there is no issue if I start loading the drawers with all hardware or something else heavy, maybe Dad’s bags of cement? ;)

This is similar stuff, but I bought it back in 2017, how time flys. This setup will be 10’ tall, the other stuff is a few feet shorter. Right now I have some electrical conduits to move before I can put one side up and the other side has to have the uprights modified to fit properly. I have the electrician scheduled for June 11th, I expect to have the wall up shortly after that. Normally I would just move the electrical myself, but the previous “Employee” ram the wires and it is so confusing, one 1/2” conduit has about ten wires in it and it runs all the lights and all the outlets, I want it done properly, so I will wait a couple weeks to have it done right.

Too bad I'm not closer, 10 wires in a pipe is nothing.

Walrus thanks for the offer, I wish you were closer too. :( In the end the problem isn't really the quantity of wires, it is the way the Employee wired things, even the electrician had to scratch his head for a bit. There is a bank of four switches, all three way, then the outlets, but juice was pulled off random outlets and the way he ran things into the panel and out the other side to get to the other bank of switches makes it look worse than it probably is. I may dig into it a bit myself, I need to remove some of the fluorescent light fixtures anyways, I just don't want to end up having no lights, we already have the other bay plugged into one of these outlets, so things are not exactly done to code for now......

Last night, I loaded up the scrap, took a bunch of wire too, I wanted to strip it, but I have been holding the stuff for more than 6 months, I decided to let it go. I am glad, got another $620, still have some more coax to cut up (big stuff, not cable TV), they are paying $1.50 per pound right now, this should pay for my new stainless sink and faucet for the shop at the Hill. Forklift batteries are also at about 20 cents a pound, so I need to get those gone. I also have a bunch of steel to ship, and then at least one forklift to scrap.

The sinks I am looking at have a drainboard to one side, I want one that has the drainboard on the right side, they make both left and right, but the left is almost $70 cheaper, WTF? Isn't this penalizing right handed people???? Anyways, I am buying the more expensive one, I don't think I could survive my OCD fit with the drain board on the left.......

You might be better off starting from scratch. If you are staying in this building for awhile, redo the lighting, switches and outlets so they are correct and do what you want them to do. That picture is a gas station in So Po, I'm better at that stuff than I am a 3 way switch anyway :)

I have a feeling that is what will end up happening, I need to get some practice with conduit and a bender. I think I have a bunch of leftover conduit from a warehouse cleanup, need to see if it is what I think it is.

This afternoon the HVAC guy is coming to install things at the office, will be interesting to see how it turns out. Of course we don't have power run to the proper location yet, so we may have to do some interesting wiring to test things out.....

No shielded wire in with AC, You can see dividers in trough for intercom and Veeder Root. Comms for pump data and Cardreaders will all be wireless before long. Everything is networked behind a firewall to protect card readers from getting hacked. if its a new install Cat6 is used for comms. Its amazing how all this **** has changed over the years.

I hear that foreign governments help subsidize the costs of wireless controls, makes it easier for the ransom ware to be installed. ;)

I got a couple free moments and started to setup the Lista cart with the drawers from the baby Lista cabinet. Ram into some QC issues, a bit of chisel action and some sanding (painted it too), the cart is now more useful for sure.

Another cool thing, the truck side boxes I bought this weekend are way better than I ever anticipated, I paid $150 each and they are just about a grand without shipping if you want new ones. Made me feel pretty good about the deal, can’t wait to install them, probably just need to buy a truck or trailer to use them on first…….

Things were going so well. I didn’t realize this until now, the drawers had different slides on them, I figured that meant they were the 250 pound capacity, well they also don’t open all the way, there is about 3” that you can’t get to easily. I had some of these a long time ago, I actually blocked off the back of the drawer because you couldn’t get things out of the shallower drawers when they went to the back. Not the end of the world, but a bit disappointing that I didn’t catch it before I bought it. My bad, lesson learned. :(

This is probably the only one that is actually an issue, it is very shallow

For the shallow top drawer the best approach is to use a divider to partition it off and just not use the space. I used the Schaller bins in the other cabinet I had like this and it drove me nuts, I tend to remove the bins when I need the stuff in them and you had to play tetris to get them out. The drawers were really good for things like exhaust gaskets and stuff that was long enough that it could easily be retrieved from under the overhang.

I found a new use for a caliper tool, the thing that spreads the pistons, had to pull out the inner pieces of this salvage piece, no where to grab, could have tipped it up and it would have slid out. I thought this was my ch easier and cleaner to do, maybe even an elegant solution?

It worked very well, don’t think anything else would have worked, the inner pieces was tucked in over an inch.

Taking Goldfender home again, this morning I made it to the scrap yard and back. I want to get some seat time in before I waste a bunch of time fixing it up, good thing is, I have most of the parts to make it look and function pretty nice. I think the only things left to purchase are front shocks, AC compressor (current one works, but growls), and blower motor resistor.

concord coach lines from the portland train station goes direct to logan/ south station {not north station like the downeaster). amtrack from south station straight into NYC, subway from there.
in normal times there are a bunch of runs a day of both. dunno right now.
