It is so hot in my house that the freezer is having trouble keeping the ice cream frozen. It is funny that it is just the ice cream, the meat and vegetables are still rock solid and the ice cubes are still ice, but the ice cream is bordering on soup.

I'm so glad you went there. It was good for a chuckle yesterday and this morning. I'm beginning to wonder if there's anything in your life that is straight forward. Seems like you're over there dancing away, doing the Strouty Shuffle.

The fridge we have is a strange one, it rarely has dirty coils, but it will ice up the fan and stop cooling. When I went to bed it was 83 downstairs, but had been upper 80s all day. Of course I haven’t checked it yet this morning, but if it was frozen up, it usually takes a couple days before the freezer needs to be cleaned out.

fingers crossed that the internet is still working at the Hill.

Internet is working, but the main iMac is having issues again, yesterday the speeds it was seeing were at about 180 mbps and today they are back to the 220 plus range, I am assuming that there is some issue with either too much throughput or it is when the upload test starts that kicks the wireless out. I am not sure how to check it, but I guess if I upload something to dropbox and it dies, then we have our answer.

Uploading to dropbox didn't do anything bad, so my guess is the download test allows for more speed than the wireless adapter can handle, this theory makes sense because all my problems started when I changed to the "faster" service and they upgraded the modem. Of course this was not the only issue and that made it harder to track down. I am not going to give it anymore time, the laptop works at full speed and if I plug the iMac in with ethernet it too works without any issues.

ran one more speed test and it was stable at 180 mbps, so I really do think the wifi adapter just can't handle the speed.

Yes, I know what I am up against now.

Took the drone out for a quick run, needed to make sure it was functional, going to the Camp to get more pictures and I wanted to use it as well.

I will post the images when I get things figured out.

I am over at the Salvage Garage, glad I stopped by there were a bunch of vehicle titles waiting in the mailbox. It must have been nasty hot and sticky in here, the floor is still patchy damp. I turned the fans up to full tilt and the AC is set at 72, should keep things stable from here on out. I wanted to see what I had for conduit and pieces/parts for tomorrow. I figure if I have some stuff worth using I will grab it, if it is going to be a RPITA to get it out, I will just leave it here.

Then I need to get the PEX and a bunch of fittings, plus my extra parts for the Maine sewer drain. After that I am headed to the Camp to get the pictures. Then I have a bunch of paperwork to have Dad sign, he was out to the island today and had the Freightliner back on the beach to do some more lifting.

I wasn’t even there, someone I know sent this to me. Do know that he made it off the beach this time without needing a wrecker. ;)

Strouty these anchor blocks must be away from shore. How does he connect to them? I am imagining that he plays out some cable, and sort of winches them into where he can lift them from the shore area onto the truck bed.

Is it still miserable there? It's ugh here. Robin went to plant 4 peeper plants in the garden this afternoon. She said "it only took 90 seconds before my skin started to melt."

Small, they get floated out by a guy with a barge, then he lowers them into place.

X, no, it is really nice, humidity is low and heat is upper 70s. Tomorrow will be even cooler.

I got the drone functioning and took some decent pictures, I definitely need to spend some more time with the thing, it is pretty easy to use, but I am only doing basics, I know there are some functions I have to try. Also need to get my drone license and unlock the limits on the thing, it is like 400' up, down, or out and then you are stopped and it warns you, that is it, no more.

I will upload some more, I am in a crappy spot and the uploading is not working well. These should tide you over, this is the Hill from a drone perspective.

The drone will be a nice addition to my stable of tricks, I just need to use it more.

I didn't eat all the ice cream, but I did check on it this morning and it seemed to be more frozen than last night.

Little Sebago Lake and no that is not the dock.

the dock is on an island in the ocean and just a bit bigger.

It is further along now, I just couldn’t find any better pictures. It is eight feet wide and between ten an fifteen feet from the ground. I should be calling it a pier.

I assume the tide comes in? Is the depth of the tide a lot or is that a normal amount?

I was just curious. Since I am in a land locked state and don't deal with tides.

The dock/pier is about 100’ further out now, even then you only get about three feet of water due to the location. Overall it will extend about 400’ from shore, it is in a cove so it won’t look like it, but the price tag and effort reflects it.

Electrician just left, we got the wall clear of everything and ready for the list cabinets, I may start in that tonight just so I can get some of the stuff off the floor. We also did a more “permanent” “temporary fix for the other bay’s lights. I have a few more things to cleanup, then I can decide what is next. Still need to make the diagonal braces for the storage wall before I can really go to town on things.

Today at lunch I got notice that the ACs were delivered, I am glad I went home to get them, FedEx driver just left them on the side of the road.

The dock is all galvanized, some was basic tower steel, some was custom made and sent off to the galvanizer. There are a couple add on pieces that my Dad put in to spite me that aren't galvanized and probably never will be. Those pieces will rust and bleed all over everything and he acts like he doesn't care. Actually at first he didn't even remember them, or why they were there, he definitely didn't remember that he chose to use them without getting them galvanized...........

The AC units will be nice, not needed really for this weekend, it is chilly compared to the upper 90s we had.

I can't wait for the Storage Wall, going to be tough as there are a bunch of modifications I have to make before I can actually install the stuff. I keep getting ahead of myself and thinking I can just put it up. :(

I can't find your dad's thread here on GJ, can you remind me again where it is?

"That damn kid of mine. He bought another Suburban!"

Lol. Just busting balls. Its great that he's still as active as he is.

Are those tower pieces sitting on Ledge? I've been on a shitload of docks never seen one made with Cell tower sections :) Is this on Peakes? I must admit a pier that long is quite the undertaking.

I was thinking about doing a library ladder, but this is only 10’ tall and the fold up ladder will let me quickly reach ever inch of that.

Walrus, they are tower sections, but they are 24” or so into the ledge, we drilled 4” holes, then they got grouted in and leveled up. Not peaks, Sturdivant Island, closer to cousins and basket.

Thankfully Dad doesn’t have a thread here, I couldn’t handle that. :(

spent the rest of the day working on the adjusting feet for the storage wall, I like what we did, but I am not sure it is going to be strong enough. We welded the oversize nuts in place, but I wasn’t thinking properly as where the forces where being transferred too. There is no where near enough weld to take the load and that basically means the jam nut takes everything. Fresh eyes tomorrow will be my best bet. I also cut down some aluminum angle iron to use as my sway braces. I need to see if I cut enough, don’t want to clean up the mess and then have to cut more later. ;)

It depends on how long it takes me to figure out the adjustable feet, then I still have six uprights to modify, plus I have to finish the sway braces. I would say the end of the month it should be up, I just ordered a few more things from McMaster, if I can't make my current leveling nut solution as strong as I feel they should be, at least with what I ordered, I should be able to make something work. The uprights aren't really designed for feet, Lista wants you to shim them, but ever since I installed the stuff over at the SG I have wanted leveling feet. It also gets the unit up off the floor and that is better for airflow, rusting, water, and cleaning under them.

We essentially welded the nuts to the front side of the upright, but it is just a spot weld, in my head I was thinking the forces were reversed and this was just to hold the nut in place while adjusting things. In reality this nut should be transferring all the weight to the upright and what we did won't cut it. I may be able to weld it in along the bottom and sides, even then it doesn't really do waht I would like. My current thought is to make a plate that allows the upright to completely sit on it and the threaded insert would be welded to this plate, probably 1/4" steel. This would allow all the upright to transfer to the 1/4" plate which in turn transfers the weight through the threaded leveling foot to the floor. I may be overthinking things too, but at a minimum I want to take a closer look with fresh eyes to see if I can do better. My quick and easy thought was to replace the jam nuts with heavier nuts and washers or flange nuts, but I may still need the plate to catch the full upright as these solutions still only catch a small portion of them.

Lista could have a solution for this in short order if they would just design it, I would buy it.......

Thats quite the project, should be there awhile. I'm used to lobster docks, wooden pilings driven to ledge, generally wooden decks, double 3 by 12 planking and 8 by 8 structure bolted to pilings. They drive trucks out on them, fork trucks all over and some are pretty shaky :) I can't imagine the permitting to get that dock built. Should add some value to the property as if it needs it :) How long have they been working on it?

The lista wall isn't the used stuff you bought a few years ago is it? How high will they be stacked?

Dock has been ongoing for about 5 years now, but you have limited times to work on it and then you get about 4.5 hours of actual time before you are under water again, of course the further out you go, the less time you have.

This Lista wall is all new stuff, I have yet to come across any used. It will be about 10' tall when it is done.

Yeah working the tides is a pain in the ****, especially on an island where if you don't have it, you ain't getting it. I've have a job on Beals Island and have been watching them redo their dock. 45 feet wide not sure how long but there is 72 yr old guy doing the bulk of the work. Its off a ledge cliff so no where near as long as your dads. The 72 yr old guy is amazing on how he figures out how to lift stuff from above using fork trucks and pulleys. This dock is working as he widens it. Fun to watch a clever old guy work. He wants to retire in 3 years and I keep telling him the dock won't be done. :)

I think you are right with the 1/4" plate and adjuster nut. It will transfer the load evenly and not roll your front edge with that outboard nut. JMHO,
Being a flatlander I would have my hands full with that tide coming in and catching me off guard, I'm sure I would drown some equipment.
