I can agree with that, I just meant don’t show up at 9 exactly, try and be a bit early. We used to have guys that would roll in at the exact time, then use the bathroom, then have a coffee and snack, that was not cool.

The lake level has come up a bit, so the dock is much lower than it should be. I think it is where it will be for the summer, so if we raise it up a bit, then it will be fine until next year.

we are going to do that tomorrow, also going to try and get a bunch of little things fixed while no one is there, two hose bibs need to be replaced, then I got all the parts to setup the garden hose down by the lake for washing off. We have to assemble two Eley hose reels and then mount them. I am setting up the pump for the hose by the lake so that it is easily removable, that way it can be brought inside for the winter and we don’t have to replace it again. :(

Loaded up for tomorrow, can’t find a few things, my guess is they are at the Salvage Garage, should take a trip over there tomorrow morning so I can unload the military chassis parts anyways.

Helper was moving things around from some shelving in the Quonset hut, he told me he was almost done, except I told him both sides and apparently that was too much information for him to take in all at once. :(

Anyways, I will have him start on the back side tomorrow while I go and unload the chassis parts.

I like the sound of the changes you5're making at the camp. Taking an extra couple of hours to make things easier for years to come is always smart strategy.

I am trying to implement the same strategy across the board, as much time as it takes this year, I will save a lot more over the long run. I spoke with my water/well guru and he said I need to figure out what pitless adapter I have, but in theory, they make one with a place for a valve to dump the water, this would make the plumbing a bit simpler in the well itself, but if I have to change out the through wall portion to get this advantage, I will probably just make my own valve setup below the current adapter. I don't really have the time to dig things up and install a new adapter in the concrete tile, but we will see. After that, I can order all the parts I need and start installation of the new filter system and switching setup.

I am headed to the Hill to finish loading things to bring to the SG, then I will go over there and unload everything. After that I will collect the helper and head to Home Depot for some parts, then to the Camp to install said parts.

Last night I made the mistake of turning the AC unit to just fan, it was warmer than I expected and the humidity crept in so I definitely didn't sleep as well as I have been, at least I didn't wake up all sweaty thanks to my cooling pad setup.

So far no leaks on the new setup, the pillow portion has been leak free since the start and the seller sent me a new pad to replace the old one. Now I have a few spares of everything, so I feel “safe”. ;)

Off to the SG with a load of random stuff.

I have to reverse limbo to get under that pipe, probably 16” or so, but I am not a little guy. ;)

Had to go and get another hose bib, I bought a 12”, two 8”, and one 6”, thought it would be the 8”, but not quite long enough. I also needed a long drill bit, one of the old ones was just 1/2” pipe with a hose valve on it, the hose bib is a lot larger, so I had to enlarge the existing hole to 1”. I am about to go back under and try to finish what I started.

Eating the elephant, one bite at a time. I did call a plumber, but got no response, so I figured I might as well figure things out.

There was plenty of room to work and it was all sand, so it was clean, but after four or five times under that pipe, I definitely could tell I ain’t 20 anymore. ;)

The rain waited for us to finish the dock leveling, considering two jacks are still broken, we got it pretty well evened out. I originally thought I was going to buy new ones, but I think we can scrape through this year as is, then in the spring I can add new jacks (technically, leveling legs), also need to do some welding to a couple sections that have some damage from most likely being left in the lake all winter.

The dock is up and out of the water, also moved a cleat to allow for better tie up of a boat, and raised the bumpers to keep a boat protected. Pretty sure no one else will have a boat now that we have done this.

I still need to setup hose reels and the pressure tank down at the water, then people can wash off, plus I can use the hose to clean the dock and the lawn furniture.

The shed got cleaned out, but we need to pick up a bunch of trash and add a few more pieces of furniture. My GF is going to do the cleaning tomorrow night, I figure another day up there and it will be ready for the next people, they arrive late Friday or early Saturday.

Strouty, do you guys leave the dock in the water every year? My buddy has a boathouse on a lake, wooden cribs filled with huge rocks and the ice moves it around like they were pebbles. HAs to be rebuilt every 10 years or so. Keeps doing it as you could never get one permitted again. Pretty cool to drive your boat into a 'garage' and shut the door :)

This is a removable setup, it actually has wheels and if you took it apart, it could be done with one person, we usually have a couple larger chunks and two people can set things up in short order.

Mostly. He only listens to about the first 5 seconds of what is said, I told him he needs to slow down and listen. He keeps doing either too much work or not enough based on his lack of listening skills. I could not have leveled the dock by myself, at least not in a couple hours, would have taken most of the day alone. I do think he is trainable, but he needs to understand that I pay him to do something specific, not to just rush around like a fool and look like he is working.

You have to remember that most "youngsters" didn't grow up doing the things we did. (Using our hands) Simply being around your dad and occasionally handing him a tool, that little bit of involvement made following along with its use and purpose/results interesting to a young inquiring mind, those are the roots of what becomes "common sense".
In other words he may be lost after the first handful of you words just decoding them, and everything after that point is not even heard. Good "bosses" are a teacher first 👍

I have a tendency to be just like the kid. It's a bad trait and very hard to break. Go easy on him and like Jack said, try to teach him. I'm not saying let him slack, though.

You can’t teach some things and make them stick, he is going to have to learn that not listening and or thinking things through for a few seconds is going to make way more work. This morning I had him come in while I was doing errands, he now has five gallon buckets that are overloaded on pallets that you can’t easily move with the pallet jack. I told him to swap out the pallets and to split the buckets up so they can be moved. I know what is obvious to me is not obvious to him, so I am trying to show him what to think about more than what to do. If he can think for himself, then both of us win, heck, even the world wins. ;)

I guess now that Amazon has a space cadet for a leader, the "two day" shipping is now "two day shipping with five day handling". If I didn't have gift cards, I would have bought it from somewhere else, but estimating August 5th or later for all my Prime shipping dates on an order placed today, seriously?

For us non-Prime members handling always seems to take 5+ days. We only use it when we have gift cards to burn, if not we shop elsewhere.

I'm sure having a helper speeds things up for you quite a bit and will make you stick to your plans a bit more.

What really speeds things up is when there's an Amazon facility nearby and you don't have to go through USPS. I get 2 day or next day service because there are 3 of them nearby.

I highly doubt Amazon will be setting up shop in Portland, Maine anytime soon. :(

Decided it was time to rework the dump trailer sides, last two trips the sides and front were trying to stay at the dump. Spent about $200 on plywood, one 2x4 and some screws.

Then we changed the trailer plug on Goldfender from a weird one to a standard 7 way RV style, so the lights work (trailer had no working brakes), I hauled it up to the Camp so I can do trash removal and finish things up tomorrow. Things are looking better each time we do something up here, I think next year will be a breeze in comparison to this year.E0BC48EB-A213-4CB3-AC93-322400F2D312.jpeg48373061-E5A4-48DF-9EE2-773839CC55CC.jpegE060C241-A19B-446C-8802-4A9337C04307.jpegFCC17C8C-90F2-4FFB-99E5-3CA8CCDF8C90.jpeg

The stupid water system down by the lake is not being cooperative going to have to get it figured out tomorrow, this will definitely involving going in the water to find out where the inlet is. I think I am going to add a one way valve right after the (hopefully it is there) intake screen. At least from there you can prime it relatively easily, right now trying to prime the main intake would mean bringing the lake up about 16” and my 1/2 liter bottle isn’t going to cut it.

I am glad I came up tonight though, now I have a better handle on things and I know what needs to be brought tomorrow.

I think five hours of sleep wasn’t enough. :(

I am hoping to go and look at a front end loader this afternoon, found a cute little one that needs an engine. Would be perfect for the Salvage Garage to help with snow removal and I could put forks on it and use it to move bigger things.

You are too kind, the plumbing should have been better, but I didn’t feel like redoing the two screw ups I made, if it had been a full basement I would have. Next time I will do a bit more planning and won’t make the same mistakes.

Had to get a pressure treated 2x10 this morning, only needed 24”, found one in the cull pile, $4.01 and I can fit 12’ wood in the Burb.832E9EE2-EBAD-476C-A6E6-FCF710C24BE1.jpegCBDB3E29-F537-44A7-8451-6CB09F033CB2.jpeg

Only 200? Last time i moseyed through Lowes, it was 90 a sheet for plywood that nice. I kept walking. I don't need anything done that bad. Making progress though! Good job!
