It was actually three hours from the time I left the Hill until he had it inspected and I was at the fuel station. I spent a bunch of time waiting, but it would have burned three hours if I had to drop off the truck, then pick it up again later, so I got to shoot the **** while he was doing the inspection, then it devolved into an hour of true BS. ;)

I just got the batteries and disconnects installed on the white diesel Burb, now I need to figure out where I am parking all these burbs….

I will say that my back has officially told me that I NEED to stop, I am going to do a bit of light cleanup, but I am ready to be done.

On the agenda today, learn how to do ACH and regular transfers in the new online bank system, try and get inspection sticker on Perk, I have another fifty things, I am going to randomly list a few:

Plug tire on Goldfender that got a roofing nail in it :(

Install battery in lift table

Install battery in the black burb

Buy more batteries for white diesel burb


Install new batteries in white diesel burb

Cut and cap two the well heads that are dry so they aren't a trip hazard anymore

Clean up tools at the Hill

Look at rental of electric jackhammer for basement

Order some more plug kits for tires

Order some die grinder carbide burrs


Unload a gang box or four...

Fill scrap trailer with hardware from quonset hut

This seems doable so I can be home by about 8 tonight.
Let me know how you do an ACH, I'm trying to build a PV system, you have to pay by ACH or wire transfer to CMP. Somehow you have to label it and get reciept so they know who paid it. They would know if they would let me send them a ******* check

Walrus, we had to setup a special account in order to be able to do the ACH payments, wire transfer is usually just a trip to the bank (and a fee).

Thanks for the tip, I'll head to the bank. That way when CMP loses it somehow I'll have back up.

I may have to modify the list almost completely, right now I don’t have any operational 4x4 trucks that I can use to haul the dump trailers up from the Quonset hut, so I may just make a trailer hitch setup on Clark, it would be useful in the future as well, so it isn’t like it is wasted effort. If course there are ten other things that should be done on Clark too, I can see one of those rabbit hole tangent thingys.

Definitely project creep, but today it may not be, my back has decided to really complain, I am having trouble sitting, let alone walking around, so there is no way I will be doing any of the heavy stuff today. :( I am not sure how I am going to handle things, but this week may be shot. I have scheduled help for next week, so I need to get the kinks worked out of my back before then.

The ACH stuff is a PITA, plus you can accidentally take money out of an account (I don't like that at all), in my head it seems like I am debiting my account, but in reality you are crediting their account. If you do a debit, it takes money from them, wish it could be locked so there is only one direction. On top of this, the bank is totally changing the current software and it won't be anything like what I just did, so will have to be walked through things again in a couple weeks.

I get a call from Dad and he wants to buy a forklift for his shop, apparently he never had the one in the shop actually repaired, so if you use it inside it tries to kill you with fumes from the propane system. I told him we need to try and repair this one, so we will see if he actually does it. I even called the repair place and gave them Dad's phone number. This is an ongoing issue that, except I thought he had resolved it months ago while my cousin was working for us still. Apparently not, so now this is creating an "emergency" that I have to deal with. At one point I had suggested an electric forklift (battery operated like mine) but he didn't like the idea, now he likes the idea. I explained to him that now is a terrible time to buy a forklift, they are ridiculously over priced, so repairing his would be the best option because we know it works for what he does and he knows how to run it. Hopefully it can be fixed for a reasonable price, but even if it was $1500, it is still cheaper than buying a used one, I see $4500 prices for something like what he would want.

I am about to get lunch, then head home and try and take it easy, my back is still complaining.

He wanted nothing to do with it, so I parted it out. I technically do still have a spare, but I want it in the quonset hut. I think the propane powered one we have is going to need a head gasket at a minimum. It still works, but after a few minutes it steams coolant enough that you can taste it.

Trailers are funny beasts, especially when it comes to buying used, right now there isn't the normal selection for new and that definitely drives the price up.

You've got that right. I'm always pleasantly surprised when I sell a used trailer. Last one was sold for full price about 30 minutes after I listed it.

On the electric jackhammer, I see it's been crossed off your list, but I've gotten some good use out of the larger one that Harbor Freight sells.

I just did research, most likely will rent a decent sized one from the local rental place, I can pick it up Saturday and return it on a Monday.

I am on the hunt for a truck (I know, I know), I need something 4x4 with a flatbed, I don't want a crane or anything fancy, just a truck, I keep running into issues where I don't have the ability to haul my own **** easily and a decent flatbed would work for now. I am getting a bit nervous, winter is definitely coming and my plan is to park Goldfender in a couple weeks, at that point I really don't have anything as a DD, I have several trucks that all need work, but right now I have fifty messes in front of that so there isn't even shop space to work on one of the trucks. I am going to look into having a rust free truck shipped in, but before I get too carried away, there is a truck a little closer that is listed as "no rust", everyone seems to have a different idea of what "no rust" is and I can clearly see there is some rust on the frame rails, but it does look decent and it fits the bill for what Ia m looking for.

I just found a beautiful diesel burb, has high miles, but has a new engine and the seats have been redone, so it doesn't show the miles. No rust and diesel, plus local, plus it is a GMC and it is blue on blue, I love that. I may be taking a road trip.

There's a lot of hate for the 6.5 diesel. Never owned one; only experience has been the non-turbo ones in the HMMWV and the military version of the Blazer.

Do you run them as-is or do some of the recommended mods/upgrades?

I've had a few big block 4x4 Suburbans; one with the Vortech 454 and another with the 8.1. Both were good tow vehicles and generally reliable, but gas mileage was less than stellar.

Barn doors too? Just once, buy a fully functional and reliable burb to see out winter without requiring any work. Dispose of the majority of other needy burbs and gain control of the urge to buy more.

Hopefully in person it’s in as good or even better condition than it appears online. Not needing to work on it at all and removing the worry of having a reliable ride over winter would justify a sizeable premium in my books.

He sent me several videos, basically he crawled around u see watch it and inside it to get just about every inch of it. Once again, he won’t take a wire transfer deposit, so I will probably not end up with it. This has happened three or four times and it has always been with NY sellers. :(

Go go go! Even if it turns out to be a piece of **** and you turn it down, at least you won’t have to berate yourself for missing the opportunity. A 10 hour round trip to potentially solve a problem thats been hanging around your neck for at least the last 4 or 5 winters sounds like a no-brainer, and the best possible use of your limited time!

What year is the 'burb? 6.5s are ok as long as you don't need gobs of torque. Few mods and they are reasonably reliable. Aftermarket Exhaust systems seem to be scarce right now. Need one for mine and Diamond Eye is no longer available?? Stock exhaust **** which you might be able to get?

I am fine with stock, never had any issues with the burbs. This one is a 1996, wish it was a 1999, but I could live with it. In the end it might not matter, the trailer I was going to use isn't available and I can't get a second driver, I don't want to go down there just to leave a deposit, that would be 20 hours of driving total and about $500 in costs not including my lost time. Maybe it will still be available next week, might get lucky, most likely not, but I am used to that.

Technically I need the flatbed more than I need the burb and I can fix one of my burbs, I just need more time, the flatbed buys me more time as I can use it for a DD for the time being. All this is subject to change in an instant due to adult ADHD..........

Hey Strouty, are you planning on using this one ton truck as a DD in the winter?

If so let me tell you that you should strongly reconsider that idea. Driving a ton truck on snowy/icy roads is a terrible experience. You would be better off in a car.

I have had them for winter before (even 2 wheel drive), at least this one is a 4x4, so I can use that if needed, but the plan would not be to have it as a DD any longer than needed. I really want to buy both the truck and the burb, but timing is killing me.

Logic ruins most things......
