At least I feel like I am not the only one that has days wasted.

Today is a lot warmer, so I may go over to the Salvage Garage this afternoon and try to get a few things done. I still need to clean up the shop at the Hill so I can get access to the lift, the Blue Burb is going to live there most of this coming week.

Nope, I tweaked my back the other day, slipped on the interior stairs just enough to have things lock up. Been out of commission for the most part. Trying to do some things today, looks like there is going to be a big storm for this weekend. My back is already not looking forward to it.

I told my back to eff off. Got the shelves on the Stak Rack reconfigured a bit, allowed me to fit more stuff, then moved the lift portion to the top of the stack. Spent more time shuffling and moving things, but in the end it was well worth it, I have more room than I started with even with all the extra stuff. I still have a few things to shuffle, but not until sometime next week.

I guess I forgot to take a final picture, Benson is inside now and you can walk around everywhere.

Looking good, Strouty.
You can add me to the 'bad disc crew', used to be 6'1" now lucky to reach 5'l0- 1/4", such is life coming up to 90.

It is amazing the room you can make when you can utilize the height of the building and get things up off the floor. Looks great!

I agree on using the height, the Stak Rack is a decent height, I can’t wait until I can utilize it properly, a few more months. ;)

The back comes and goes, I try not to abuse it, but seems like I don’t quite understand what that means most of the time.

Hi Strouty, I have spent the last week reading this entire thread. To say the least, I have been enthralled. Like many others I see lots of similarities although the scope of things is much different. Any when I got married at 20 yrs. old I told the wife that anything we need (outside of the basics paid for through normal job) we had to do our selves because we couldn't afford anyone else to do it for us. We have lived that way for the past 50 years, wife sews I take care of house and car maintenance, etc. We still think it is a good to live, and we both get great satisfaction out of the things we do for ourselves. I am trying to say that I think I understand where you are coming from.

Anyway, I also have lower back problems. It started in the early 90ies. I posted about my experience in the thread "Lower back Arthritus" in the Free Parking forum, my post is from January 2, 2020. Not everyone agreed with it but I do a stretch I called
"scaredy cat, swayback horse". An Airforce doctor taught me this when I was experiencing sciatic nerve pain. In many ways its like using the inversion table, but only takes a few minutes and can be done anywhere. You get on all fours making sure that you setup with 90 degree angles between arms and chest, and abdomen and thighs. Keep neck in line with spine, then stretch up so that you look like a scared cat holding it for a few seconds, then make like a swaybacked horse. It opens up the space between vertebra.

Now days I try to do several 20 or 30 second reps in each direction when I get out of bed in the morning. I still know that my back is compromised, but I function pretty much without pain. On days when I have worked quite a bit or have tweaked my back a bit I do the stretch just before I get into bed for the night. I have done it while in my shop, just put on a pair of knee pads and hit the floor.

Just my two cents, but I think I may be helpful for you. I have seen where you post that you think your back will be sore tomorrow, that's the time to quickly do the stretch. Like you I try very hard to avoid NASIDS and all pain meds.

The lista wall looks really great, I want some. How's the blue burg coming?

Strouty glad you are getting along a bit better. No disc problems here but do have a bunch of osteo arthritis clogging up those lower back sections. No fun either.

A quick question, in the pic above can those two vehicles behind the forklift be moved outside? Seems like it would free a bunch of usable space.

Sorry to hear about your back flair up...... you can add me to the bad disc club due to a car accident, but mine is only bad with cold weather and fortunately there is not a lot of cold weather in Southwest Florida. The clean up looks awesome and hopefully inspires you to do more ... as your back will let you.

edited for spelling

Thanks for taking the time to see the "big picture", I am still working towards figuring out things, but every day adds some clarity.

Yup, I do not do this as often as I should, definitely a good stretch that is easy to do.

The Blue Burb is still on the agenda, but I have not gotten it in on the lift yet. I suspect I will be plowing this weekend and Monday is the day set to change the injection pump, probably pull it inside Friday night and just take the F-350 home.

Any back pain is bad, it just takes a lot out of you. The other two vehicles are my Virginia (Virgin) Burb that I plan on using the frame and other parts off of for my OGMC project. The Freightliner is just an engine cradle right now, I plan on pulling the engine out, it is slated for Perk 2.0, but all that is still in limbo until I get the insurance squared away.

I remember taking a trip to Vegas one year, I could walk for miles without having one bit of back problems, it is amazing how our bodies react to the weather.

That space is looking a lot better. Nice work. Don't overdo it! You know how long recovery takes!
Thanks 86, I am trying to be patient, really.

Last month was a horrendous month for money out, hopefully this month will be a bit different, I don't think I can take another month like it. Just wrote all the checks and paid all the bills, now all my money is gone. :(

I think I heard my check book say...... NO SHELVING FOR YOU!

Add me to the bad back list. Doc diagnosed me with "degenerative back disease" several years ago. Lots of the damage caused by hard landings back when I was a paratrooper. Strengthening and stretching has really made the difference, but I'm worried about what will happen in the coming years.

Did you hear about the sale in Connecticut for a bunch of Vidmars. Cheap!!!

Where? Asking for a friend.......

Core strength and flexibility will keep things pretty good, but it doesn't generally get better.

bulletpruf, do whatever it takes to maintain that back health. I am one of the healthiest people you'll ever meet, and that stuff will put me right into the bed and nothing will get me out. NOTHING has been more of a detriment to getting things done than that for me.

Yikes. Better slow down my friend, there's bad stuff coming in future, don't want to get caught without cash to burn.

I am going to either build or buy a hydraulic scale setup for the forklifts, I want to figure out how to make my own setup, then I can install it on all of them. From there, I want to figure out how to make wireless transmitters, so I can build a couple crane scales, and I am also thinking about building a bench that is a scale. The bench would be great for shipping, just set the package on the bench and see what it weighs, no extra scale or fuss. Ultimately I would like to make my heavy duty scales wireless along with a few other things, I just think this would be a good way to get into some of the electronics that are out there, I am feeling a bit lacking in that department.

They are saying 12” to 18” looks like the closer you are to the coast, the more you get. It is also supposed to be very windy, they issued a blizzard warning already.
