I wonder how many town, county, and state fire/emergency response depts are still using ex-military vehicles ? I know that some places used to convert them for fighting bush fires (including in Maine) because it was cheaper than buying/building a new one. I guess they’ll all need to be taken out of service now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Municipalities and government (Federal or State) are almost always exempt from civilian rules, I know Maine said that it doesn't matter if a town or one of the armed forces is using them.

Just wondering how things are gonna work out when the "mini badger" gets bigger. Those front feet look lethal.
I don't know how much bigger Chuck is going to get, but the teeth are kind of like his thumbs, he uses them to play, so far there is an understanding about biting too hard. I feel like getting older may make things better, more control and less frantic play. I am also sure I will find out how it feels to actually be bitten, heck my cats draw blood on a semi regular basis.

It should, but it never does, towers are the same way, if a municipality wants to put up a tower they can do it anywhere they want, if I want to put one up, well, it can get problematic to say the least.

I have a rule about animals. They bite me, i get about 3 seconds to try to kill them. They usually learn. Those that don't aren't worth keeping around. I'm the top of the food chain. No other options exist. My UN-solicited opinion. YMMV.

I have been bitten by more “oh he’s friendly” dogs than I can count, needless to say, I am not a dog person. Most people think that their dog shits three flavored ice cream and everyone loves them, well, for the record, I hate your dog, it isn’t cute, and I don’t like its nose in my ***.

Today feels even warmer and more humid. :(

Yesterday I got Chuck a play house, this morning I got a sandbox, I also fixed the door to his new room, it now opens and closes easily without making a racket. Also reworked the outlet that the AC is using, turned it upside down, then added an extension cord and an outlet cover designed for protecting babies, should be better than it was.

I am now home, getting ready to collect the beast and head to the Hill for the rest of the day.

Someday, just not this someday....

He is currently sleeping, I am figuring out a few more things to add to the room, bought him some toys, he may like them, he may not. At this point his favorite things are the cinder blocks, he actually grinds his teeth on them.

I have to make a window seat, he is chewing at the half rotted frame, so this will allow him to have a place to sit and it will protect the window a bit. I spoke too soon, he is now up and looking for more food. At least he is eating greens more, last night he didn't even finish his normal three smoothies, then this morning he only had two. I would love to have it so he doesn't need any, but baby steps.......

Chuck can get to be about 3 feet long and one wide. They can sit up about as high as a 40 lb Dog. IIRC their teeth can be about 3 inches long and so can their nails, both razor sharp. Just sayin.

His teeth get worn down with all the chewing, so that helps, we have been trimming his nails, there isn’t enough digging going on to keep them from Freddy Kreugering. I am still pretty sure that Chuck is a runt and will be on the smaller end of the spectrum size wise.

His current digs:

He isn’t a fan of the slide, not yet anyways, I keep working on him.

It isn’t even done, he has more drain pipe and cinder blocks that I have to figure out how i am arranging them.

Tonight, because of the thunderstorm, he was awake until almost 8, try waking a groundhog up when he doesn’t want to be woken up. He was holding onto a massive entanglement of blankets while verbally protesting, I about had to take the cage apart to get him out. I tried lights, I shook him a bit, I tried pulling him out, he wasn’t having it, at least not the easy way. I got him into the new carrier, he was still clinging onto some of his blankets from the cage, it was rather amusing, he went back to sleep. Then when we got home, he woke up and was ready for smoothies, now he is eating dry food and some clover greens. Hopefully he will let me sleep, I have my DOT physical at 9AM tomorrow and I would like to at least feel rested.

Temps outside are still 80 and humid, I thought for sure the storms would help with that, but it really didn’t change much. This coming week our highs are in the low 80s, but the evenings are going to dip into the 60s!!!!! Another few weeks and I will be bitching about snow.

I decided to bring Chuck back to the Hill so there would be no drama with my appointment, he ate, but has decided not to go back to sleep yet. I probably would have been better off leaving him up there and just going up early to feed him, I need a bit more time before I can do that, maybe next week.

Once again, my A1C is high, this time too high, to top it off, my Primary Care Physician has left the game and the place he worked at is now considering me a "new" patient. I will either need to find a new place or they can get me started in May 2023.........

Measures the amount of hemoglobin that has sugars attached to them. Gives you an indication of your blood glucose levels for 3 or 4 months.

Under 6 is good over 7 is bad as in diabetes in between is usually pre diabetes.

I am a Type 1 diabetic. A1C is VERY, VERY important. Basically the average of your blood sugar level over the past three months. A high A1C effects a lot of organs in our bodies. It's very important to keep it under control, or else over time, high blood sugars cause cardiac disease, diabetic retinopathy, kidney failure, neuropathy, gum disease, and many other things.

Yup, there are saying I was pre diabetic two years ago, then last year I was fine, now this year I am off the charts diabetic. I know my body reacts poorly to certain things, one is stress (don’t have much of that), two is lack of sleep (Chuck let’s me sleep as much as I want), three is diet (Covid has destroyed my taste and good food smells as bad as poop). By the time I get a new PCP, I will probably be in a diabetic coma. As bad as my numbers are, I think I can clean them up and be back to normal in a few months, all the carbs I have been eating are just turning to sugar since I get hardly any exercise, I have also been tired enough that I have been drinking things like Mountain Dew, then there is the ice cream bars that are easier to eat than anything, then the red meat, I have been eating way too much of it. Anyways, it is just another piece of drama I can add to the pile. Only good news is that I was 290 pounds, last year I was 325 and up.

Chuck has been eating from his pile of greens for the last 15 minutes, makes me feel good that he is eating so much now compared to the last couple weeks. I have to get some more greens tonight, now that I have taken the time to separate them better, they seem to last longer and he eats more of them.

Just curious what your A1C number is?

As encouragement, it CAN be changed for the good. My A1C was creeping up and with dietary changes I was able to bring it down.

It does take time, and being mindful of daily choices. I think you already know what the problem food choices are.....

It will take time, and it will be challenging to break the sugar dependency. But once you do, the sugar cravings do go down.

As mindful and careful as you are with Chuck's food, just apply that to yourself and you'll be good!!!!

Also, Congrats on the current weight loss!!!!!! That is great progress!

I wasn't trying to lose weight, that is just what the scale said.....

As for the number, well it is high for someone that is already a diabetic, let alone someone that has no primary care physician. I will be curious to see what the numbers are in a few months, I am going to get one of the home blood tester thingies to try and help see what is going on. Of course this could explain why I think I am tired all the time, might not actually be lack of sleep. I think I will be eating the same thing Chuck eats (minus the wood) for the rest of my life. I just wish that I could eat things like chicken, fish, and eggs, they are all on the Covid aftermath disgusting list (technically eggs were always on my disgusting list).

Maybe you should try the Chuck diet? Fresh greens and veggie smoothies?

My Covid mess leaves me with about that as an option. I can eat shrimp, so I can have some of that, but I generally like carb delivery methods for my food, rolls, wraps, rice, and other things that are not good.

Steaks shouldn't affect A1C numbers
Apparently if you grill them it creates a chemical that does effect A1C, regardless, having an all red meat diet has been hell and I need to cut way back. It is tough when I am out and about, all I can eat is a hamburger or a steak and cheese or some other fried food item. I miss being able to eat chicken, turkey, and fish, the smell is so bad it makes the taste unbearable though.

Look into Keto. I went from 220+ (at 5' 8-9") butterball and definitely pre-diabetic, (based on what i've heard, i was not a regular doctor visitor) to a 150lb lean guy with a BMI under 25 and boundless energy. I used to get "hangry" when blood sugar was low, now i can skip multiple meals and don't even notice. Been on it since 2016. My numbers on yearly physical are stellar. Doc tells me every year during the physical: "you are the healthiest person i am likely to see today"

Well, that will make any fixes tougher. There are low carb delivery methods, but they do not generally inhabit restaurants.

The biggest issue with all these great diets is they assume you eat what they tell you, the Keto diet has a lot of staples that I won’t be able to eat. The diet that I lost the most weight on in my entire life was Atkins, it was crazy how much weight I lost, of course that was when I was like 240……

Quoted from quick google search
"
  • Participants who ate red meat and chicken that were cooked to a well-done or charred level showed a significantly increased risk of type 2 diabetes compared with those who ate meat and chicken that were lightly browned. "
Glad I hate anything over cooked
