I have all the parts I need to finish the Chimney, looks like I will have help on Thursday and that is top priority. Today was a mix of things, had to gather up some vehicle titles to get over to my Buddy that runs the dealership, he needed three more to close out the year. I have another four to start off the next year (October to end of September). I may be a bit slower this year, no real plans to buy vehicles, but when we scrap them or I sell one it will still add to the collection, hopefully I can rid myself of several in the next twelve months.

I picked up the heavy aluminum channel iron for the stake pockets on the Muv-All trailer, 12’6” fit in the Blurb with the doors closed. The channel is 3/8” thick, should hold up well for my purposes.

The idea of scrapping vehicles sounds like a really good plan. Spare parts, and coin. Can you do that while upgrading your storage and maintaining everything? Good to see some real forward progress. Some of these projects are definitely long term but seem to finally be paying dividends. Keep chipping away at it.

I am formulating a plan for storage upgrades now, some of the Lista storage wall is headed to the Salvage Garage and then the shorted stuff from the SG will end up at the shop at the Hill. That will allow me to complete the stock room without buying any uprights at all. I also don’t think it will really shortchange things too much at the Hill, but only time will tell. I still have a lot of moving things around to make this happen, hopefully I can get it all done before the four letter word hits.

I spoke with the Auction people today, I think I will be bringing a bunch of stuff over there next week, all I have to do is get it ready. By get it ready, that means a ton of effort!

If I can get a few things gone, it will probably help motivate me to move some more stuff, or it will sell so cheap I will cry, either way, the stuff will be gone, right?

100% right. I have just got to the end of a huge decluttering event in my house, which had got to looking like a hoarders place. I can't explain how much better I feel. It's like I was carrying all that stuff around on my shoulders. At times I hated that I was throwing stuff away that might have made me some money but in the end I realized that the freedom to have the use of all my house again was much more valuable than the small amount I might have made.
In your case getting rid of stuff that you don't need will give you space to work on things that will be either be useful or saleable and so it will be valuable even if you don't get much money. I say go for it!

A couple things will make things worse for the time being, I want to get rid of the office trailer and then the 6x6 army truck is another thing, I am on the fence about both those, but I really don't use either of them appropriately and they take up a lot of space and handling time.

What do you need an office trailer for, building any more towers? or doing long term construction work? if not, ... I could make a case for the 6 by 6 staying, if nothing else its cool

The office trailer was supposed to be my "wood shop", it really just became storage for the "wood shop" type stuff, then it became storage for anything that fit and that is where the problem lies. To sell it, I have to unload it, that means handling lots of stuff that doesn't have a home. I am starting to vote for keep it for the winter and plan to sell it in the spring. The 6x6 would be nice if I used it, the auction is a bit of a risk, could be good, could be bad, definitely will be sold.

I think I need to take a step back on this auction, I know it would be good to get rid of things, but for the last several months all I have been complaining about is how badly things keep getting upended by surprises or pitfalls. This is really just another one of those and if I unload that office trailer, I will be in a world of hurt, everything will be upended, I can't do it. I may however be able to bring the C-70 crane over there, the two forklifts, and a lot of the tires that are in the Kentucky trailer that was a saddle shop originally. That would get rid of some things that I really don't care about and then I won't be turning my world upside down right when I need the stability the most.

I think the 6x6 has the biggest chance of being sold without an auction for more money too. The office trailer is a can of worms for sure. There are a couple more welders, a grapple, some forklifts, the tires, some cordless tools and other stuff that can go relatively easily. If I can get the C-70 crane running well enough, it can go too. The rest of the stuff will be fine to wait, then I will only have a few days invested in the stuff rather than emptying out a big trailer only to have to deal with the mess for months. If I slowly keep at it, I should be able to have it emptied out before spring.

I should have looked into the auction earlier, I knew that the place they held the auction was up for sale, so I didn't think they would still have it there, well, had I only checked earlier. Even a week or two more, I could have been better prepped, but they start taking things on Monday and my next couple days are booked solid, then there is normal stuff that has to get done, plus I am going to start moving some things into the office above the shop at the Hill. First order of business is the chimney project, second thing is the water system, third is the office, somewhere in there I still have to cram all the other things, like the auction, running the companies, the truck repairs, the quonset hut, the wood shop, the Salvage Garage, the gate project, moving my equipment around, getting ready for white stuff, you get the idea.

While it would be good to get rid of some stuff at the auction.... is it really much of a priority right now? Seems like you need to focus on getting stuff ready for winter... chimney, water system, etc. While it would be nice to sell a trailer, since you have it full of stuff, that is much more work and difficult. Where do you put the stuff that you would take out of the trailer, assuming you want to keep all of that stuff? If you didn't want to keep all of that stuff, just take the whole thing to the auction and let them deal with it, that would kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

I'm with the others, keep the 6x6 for now. You do use it periodically, and it is pretty dang cool!
Are there some easy small items to take to the auction instead? That might clear more space and be less work.
Focus on the high priority stuff... don't get distracted by an auction!

The plan (subject to change) is to get the tires, they take up an entire trailer, the two welders that would take me a lot of effort to get sold otherwise, the grapple that doesn't swivel, a bunch of cordless tools, Guido the blue forklift, and the C-70 Crane. I think there will be some other things that can be unearthed and taken over there as well, but at this point, that is all I plan on taking. These things are relatively easy to get to and move, the C-70 is the only wild card, as long as I can get it running and it drives out of the back forty, I should be good to bring it over to the auction, it is only 7.5 miles on back roads to get there.

Today we are going to finish the chimney, that is my super duper top priority, above all emergencies and everything else (minus life threatening things).

Should have that done today, I also need to shuffle a few things around so that I can get all my stuff out of the quonset hut and over to the Salvage Garage. Dad has been a pain and I don't want him to be able to say that my stuff is making it so his stuff won't fit in the quonset hut. Luckily I do not have a lot of stuff there, unluckily, it is almost all stuff that needs to go inside, so that is going to make it a bit of a pain on my end, but the stuff is worth saving so I have to deal with it.

I keep getting emails from Intuit trying to get me to do the online quickbooks, in order to unsubscribe, you follow a link, then it has options to not receive email, calls, mail, but they only way they will do that is if you enter all your contact info, I tried just clicking off “do not send email” and they still want all my info. I just feel like it is a way for them to gather info and sell you off. There should just be a unsubscribe from email button. I just blocked them at the server level, they can do as they please now.

Yesterday we finished the outside portion of the chimney, I do need to add some more caulking and probably some roofing tape to back up the seams on the roof, but it came out nice. I don’t like the rain cap, so I need to see if they offer a different style, this one has a really large open area with no screen or anything, seems like trouble waiting to happen.

Then we poured the last of the concrete, just the part around the posts, had just enough concrete to make it work. I may have to do a bit of grinding to get the taper, we finished up in the dark, so it won’t be the way I wanted I am sure.

Today we will be at the Salvage Garage, I have a lot of little things to do in order to get the big things done. One thing is to add bracing to the Muv-All trailer deck under the removable panels, hopefully we can figure out a good way to do this, they need to be removable for access to all the suspension, brakes, and hydraulic lines. The other thing is the trailer that is still on jack stands needs to be put back together, it is seriously messing with the flow of the yard now.

So far the C-70 crane is out and running, just about ready to go, cleaning the mouse mess out of it, luckily it doesn't smell. I also got good pictures of the 5 ton 6x6 so it can get posted on Marketplace. I will have to dig out all the tires this weekend, there are a lot of them and they are all stuffed into one trailer. Good thing is that almost all of them are going away. I got the grapple out, the forks were swapped on Dad's forklift and I brought out the old ones to go on Guido, we have half the bracing in the Muv-All trailer, the other part is going to be bolt in, so I will have to do that this weekend. Then I have to cut the aluminum plates to replace the steel ones, I forgot the saw, so I can't do that now either. Lots of things getting done, should be lots of things going away next week too.

This weekend is going to be a forklift fiesta, got to move a few of them. Also have to finish the repairs on the Muv-All, we pulled the winch cable out, there was only 50 feet of cable, I should be able to get about 100 feet of the smaller cable on there, 75 for certain. I have a list of things to get at the Hill, then I will be over at the Salvage Garage for the rest of the day.

When I was at the dump this morning unloading my little dump trailer, there was a fancy new FORD crew cab with a 16' new dump trailer, it was loaded up really well. Guy was in the back throwing things out of it, I told him they made dump trailers that looked just like that one..... he said his battery was dead, I laughed inside (a lot), you never go to the dump without checking the trailer first, ever!

I am gathering things for the Salvage Garage, probably going to load up the dump trailer with some things as well, I hate going over there without a load of stuff, especially when I have a trailer.

Still loading and moving things at the Hill, found some more auction stuff and I put away a bunch of random things all into labeled totes. At least I am getting some things done, not what I wanted to do, but I have to kind of piecemeal most everything. I suspect that tomorrow is going to be rough, my back and neck are pretty pissed off. After the loader extravaganza, I have been to the chiropractor twice and on Monday I have a third appointment, most likely have one or even two more before things settle down. I really need to see him quarterly, regardless of how I feel eleven months was way too long.

The office is coming along nicely, painter is done until after the remaining things are done, I suspect it will be ready to start moving in by Halloween.
