Auction is at Beech Ridge in Scarborough, probably the last one there, it has closed down and property is being redeveloped. Keenan auction company will have a listing on website. The auction is on the 13th, next Thursday.

Last night I wanted to get the deck plates done, it was raining, so I grabbed my EZ-Up shelter that I got on Amazon warehouse deals, saved $30, wasn’t worth it, there was something missing.

You got boned. The top of the line 10x10, with straight poles, full internal supports, AND the rag, costs $200 at Sam's club.
This is a 12' by 12', but I still got hosed. I will fix it though, I have my ways....

Got Dad's forklift delivered to the auction, I am back at the SG now, got one more trip with miscellaneous stuff, then I think I am done.

The contractor is essentially done until the rest of the stuff is painted, if I can't get the painter on board, I may be doing some myself. At this point I have now torn apart my makeshift office (2 year old temporary one) and now I have two torn apart offices. Got to get something functional next week or things will be miserable.

I am going to call him again.

Got all the major stuff over to the auction, there are some tool boxes I may take over, they may not want them, if not I will be on the way to the SG anyways and that is where they are going for the winter.

Tonight I am feeling the last three weeks pretty good....

I don't think I will be taking a break for too long, I have to get back to the gate and tower site cleanup so I can get the Mitsu back and use it to remove some trees before it SNEWS (not even typing it......).

I think I can make a dent in cleaning up the Hill tomorrow, then I will be hauling Clark over to the Salvage Garage so I can make a dent in that too. I have a couple more projects that need to be finished before things will be really ready for the colder months, first thing is to get the trailer on jack stands back on its own wheels, then another one is the pallet racking along the back of the shop, another is moving the existing furnace (and chimney system) then setting up the waste oil furnace at the SG (need to figure out if it will even work), then adding new "billboards" to cover the back half of the shop for the next few years. I can't justify the roof yet, I still plan on changing the trusses and at that point I will be able to do a new roof. Things are slowly coming together, as long as I don't buy a bunch of junk at the auction, we should be on track, right? ;)

Always worth going to these auctions, sometimes "steals" can be had, just set your maximum bid (taking into account the sometimes steep fees) & stop bidding @ the right time. Sadly earlier said than done at times, don't ask me how I know.

There are a couple large sandblast pots there and pallets of media, then there are random things, but a few that would be great additions to the supply chain. I do not want to buy anything large or something that will be a big project, I am looking at equipment that will ultimately help me finish some projects. Towards the end of the day, steal can show up, luckily, most of this stuff is towards the end.

I am gathering some paperwork so I can renew Perk's registration along with a few trailers, also trying to get insurance on the Army 5 ton, all the people interested in buying it either need a title or a prior registration, Maine won't issue a title and I was told that I CAN sctually register it as an "Antique" so I am going to try. If I can get that paperwork, then it will be easy to sell, plus I would be able to register the Dump truck and drive that back and forth without an issue (has to be unloaded though).

It was until the MOFOS kicked it off, they said I was breaking the rules trying to sell currency or government documents, I was like WTF? Anyways I am going to relist the thing, now that I have registered it, I can easily sell it to someone from a state requiring titles.

Working at the Hill today, need to get things ready for the painter as well as finalize the furnace chimney installation. I am going to hit the Salvage Garage a little later as I need the ramp truck to move some things tomorrow and that is where it is. I think I can have a decent load of stuff to go to the SG at the same time. Lots of things are coming together, just the little details now, you know, the most time consuming parts. I want to be outside, but I want heat in the house and an office even more.....

I had to feed Chuck, when I opened the fridge I remembered that I had bought all the greens to make more smoothie, so I had to process all that, made four batches of smoothie and then used the food saver bags for the remaining greens. I am also freezing some after they are vacuum sealed to see what happens. I suspect that is really won't matter if I freeze them or not, they take up more room than if I make smoothie and freeze it into Ice cube size portions. He is pretty consistent with two bottles in the evening, but mornings he sometimes only has one. I think it is a good balance for him, he still gets plenty of greens and fluid without me having to fight fresh stuff and then toss half of it every day because he won't eat wilted stuff. I have several smaller projects that I kind of forgot about at the Hill, so I will probably spend most of the weekend concentrating on that stuff with a smattering of random other stuff thrown in for good measure.

The contractor did not level up the cabinets before he installed the butcher block top, so I am hopeful that when I do level them, it won't eff everything up too much. I wish everyone could be more aware of big picture things, seems like most people just look at what is happening this second and don't care about what happens next until they get there. I find a bit of forethought can make a project a lot better in the long run. Oh well, I can't do everything myself, so I have to deal with things this way until I can clone myself....

I also locked in an oil delivery for the House at the Hill, got in at $4.27 a gallon, should have ordered it a week ago as it was $3.95 a gallon, today almost all the prices are $5 a gallon, so at least I am not going to get pinched that badly. I filled the Salvage Garage up at $3.99 a couple weeks ago, still hopeful that I can get the waste oil furnace going over there too, I have plenty of waste oil for this year, would be enough to heat both shops. Even so, both shops now have a full tank of heating oil, so I have that to fall back on.

I am furious at this point, you can’t level the cabinets at all, the contractor screwed everything to the wall and it is so blatantly crooked that you can tell by eye, more than half an inch out in three feet. Of course you can’t lower the cabinets any, and it makes the other side worse. Good thing that we paid someone to do this. :(

I want to make him come back and fix it, but I don’t have the time to wait, today was supposed to be the day I installed the drawers and started bringing things upstairs, not doing demo on something that was “finished” on Thursday.

Have you paid him in full? Seems like a reduction in payment would bring at least a little resolution to it. ***** when you pay the "professionals" and that's the result. I'd be pissed too!

He has not been paid yet, but he is Dad’s friend, so he will be paid. I tore things out, did some damage to the drywall as I am not a carpenter, the reason I hired one. The way it was installed was great, just not when it was crooked as hell. I went around with the level and he did all the other cabinets properly, so I don’t know why this one was so bad, I should have know when he wanted to leave on Thursday before lunch that there would be something like this. I mean, I could see how bad it was by eye. I think if I get some taller trim for the backsplash it will cover the damage I did to the drywall. At least this time I can miter the corner, he mitered the butcher block, then overlapped the trim, that should have been a red flag anyways. I couldn’t leave something like that, I have too much pride in my work.

I lied, the cabinet next to it was off and the countertop was raised in the middle, kind of convex. Now I am just waiting to find the next issue, I am really worried about society if people think this is acceptable, between the original contractor, the painter, and the latest contractor, I guess the motto would have to be “Eh, good enough”. I wasn’t going into this with a goal of perfection, but I did have expectations that are far from met. This is just one more reason why I like to do it myself. It may take me longer, but I am not a pro and if it isn’t perfect, I either live with it or fix it, either way I learn from it.

Most people don’t pay any attention to details. Not just contractors but the people hiring them.

Check out The Bullet Journal if you have a chance. I’ve been using it to keep track of everything for 8-9 months now. I think it’s the longest I’ve kept one system. It lets you organize and track things however works for your brain.

YouTube has videos on it, I have not been able to adopt it yet, I am more of a GTD type, but since the office has been down, nothing has been really working for me, going on two years and I am about done. I can’t keep anything straight these days, way too many details.

The more i try and level things the more mad I get, the floor is out at least 3/4” in 8’ and I paid a different contractor, one that spent days cutting pieces to make the subfloor level before we even started the main build. I am not hiring anymore contractors, I am going to have to do it myself. I need to get this done and move in, but I am not going to stare at all these stupid freaking things that shouldn’t have to be fixed, they should have been done right the first time.

I am almost back to where I started at 11:30 today, still have to fix the Formica side, that shouldn’t be too tough, but it will need to be trimmed and I only have a framing blade, might have to take a trip to Home Depot.

Just a way to keep track of your to do list or whatever else you want to keep track of. It helps me keep track of the day to day stuff but also have a place to write notes about woodworking or draw sketches.

I also watched a webinar from the author of Getting Things Done but for whatever reason ended up using the Bullet Journal method.

On bad floors, i've found building a platform for boxes to sit on works well.

I am at the point now that it is what it is, there is a piece of 3/4" plywood under three of the four sides of the file cabinets. I will have to paint them black to try and make them less noticeable, but there is a gap that tapers to about nothing and then the other cabinet has the center almost touching the floor, while both ends are raised up by the adjustable feet on the cabinet. As far as I am concerned it looks like ***, not much I can do at this point, except learn from this. In hindsight, I should have verified what was happening, rather than trusting the contractors. Oh Well.

Had to take a break, I was getting mad and it wasn't helping the situation any. I need to cut some more pieces of plywood for the formica countertop, there was no bracing where it needed it the most, there will be when I am done. The trim (backsplash) pieces are junk, so I need to buy some more birch, one piece was so glued onto the butcher block that it ripped it apart when I broke it off. Some good glue, luckily it only made a mess where it will be totally covered but the trim. My damage to the drywall wasn't as lucky, it needs to be repaired before I install the trim. I may wait to install the trim anyways, then I can poly everything in pieces rather than when it is all together, should make for a nicer looking installation. Regardless, at this point I will not be done tonight and I basically feel like I wasted the better part of a good day, it really *****, my days are getting shorter and shorter as we quickly progress into the colder time.
