Pugman, I'm really diggin this setup. Did it cost you a pile of money to get into blacksmithing? The local college offers classes...I'm thinking of signing up in the spring.

Oh yeah...like the tractor too...that's a pretty cool setup with the trip hammer. I'm a big fan of tools and methods of yesteryear.

my first set up was like 50 bucks , and you could do it for free, look up brake drum forge and use any chunk of steel as a anvil use pilars as tongs get a hammer and start doing it !

this is my bud useing my first ever set up...

Hahaha... check the hair dryer! My wife's grandpa has an older blower looks just like your Royal blower rusting out at his ranch. Might have to go pick it up one day...

Its encouraging to know I could get started for cheap. Another thing to add to my list of projects. I'll keep you posted.

absolutley awesome stuff man....... im hoping to follow in the steps somewhat and teach myself the blacksmithing magic.

one thing though, i had a chuckle to myself about old mate with a gun on the hip and all sorts of very hot **** going on around him..... not knowing anything about guns, is that a safe thing?

I imagine it's a PITA moving everything outside to use it. I guess it's something you're not going to do for 15 minutes of work.

You have a great shop and this is a very interesting thread. I don't know much about blacksmithing but I'm learning. Thanks.

This thread has brought out the work ethic of how our nation was built... BY HAND.

You have a great collection of tools and know-how... can't wait to see more!

Sparking some interest for me to look into a new hobby...

The shop has turned out very well. I finally subscribed to this thread cause I gotta keep up with your progress.

I ran across another forum 2 days ago that might hold some interest for you and any others interested in getting into blacksmithing.

Looking great. Forging is one of those processes I want to add to my studio some day...when I have a bigger space. I'll probably start with a brake drum forge.

I think it's cool when folks 'do what they know' to set up their shop. I work in rivets, so I build my shop fixtures with rivets. You work in forged steel, so you hang your lanterns with forged hooks. Cool.

Did I miss something? Is this like a pole barn (the poles are sunk into the ground)? What keeps your shop from blowing away? (not criticizing, just wondering). You've built yourself a building for just about as little as you can get away with.

Looking forward to seeing what else you are going to do in there.

all the 4x4's are 2 foot in the groung with 2 bags of concrete in each... no pics cuz i was doing it all myself ! and yes it was a simple build becose thats the way it would have been done , and a shop like this you do not wont air tight any ways , its just a shack to keep most the rain out....
